Gotham star David Mazouz once again discusses Jerome/The Joker, saying that Jerome will be instrumental to the actual Joker’s creation. Over the course of its nearly four seasons, Gotham has played host to many memorable villains, many of whom serve as early versions of iconic members of Batman’s rogues’ gallery. So far, The Penguin, The Riddler, Poison Ivy, Catwoman, The Scarecrow, and more have all gotten their own Gotham spin, even if said spin is sometimes wildly different from the conventional interpretation of the character.
Of course, far and away the most well-known among Batman’s many villains is The Joker. During season 1, Gotham introduced Jerome Valeska (Cameron Monaghan), a very Joker-like character who fans naturally assumed would go on to evolve into the full-fledged Clown Prince of Crime. Gotham’s writers and producers have repeatedly said that Jerome isn’t The Joker, but that still hasn’t stopped fan speculation that those denials are nothing more than a smokescreen meant to leave fans surprised when Jerome finally completes his transformation.
During a recent chat with Comic Book, Gotham star David Mazouz once again reaffirmed that Jerome is definitely not The Joker, but for the first time, he specifically acknowledged that Jerome will have a close connection the actual Joker, and prove instrumental in his creation. In fact, Mazouz predicts that Gotham fans will be shocked by the ties between Jerome and The Joker.
“It really is one of the biggest shocks. I think it’s safe to say that this kind of transition is not only the smartest thing, but the biggest kind of surprise that Gotham has thrown at its audience. Gotham loves to kind of have a shocker moment. I mean, I’m sure we’d love to have crazy cliff hangers, but this is one that is not even on the same level as anything we’ve done before. I mean, the second I read that in the script, I was like, ‘Oh my God. Yes. That is perfect.'”
While Mazouz didn’t let slip as to when exactly the true Joker will appear on Gotham, the fact that he’s already read the script for Joker’s debut suggests that the cackling clown’s arrival will occur at some point during season 4. It’s doubtful any progress will be made in this story on tomorrow night’s mid-season premiere, as Cameron Monaghan has already confirmed that Jerome won’t be a part of that episode. Still, with only 10 episodes left in season 4 after that, it should logically be pretty soon that Joker makes his presence felt.
Worth noting though is that Mazouz’s public statements don’t always end up matching what Gotham ultimately does. The actor memorably insisted that Harley Quinn would become part of Gotham before the end of season 3, which obviously never happened. While it wouldn’t make any sense for Mazouz to blatantly lie to Gotham’s fans, there is certainly a chance he might be mistaken once again.
Gotham season 4 returns March 1 on FOX.

Matt Ryan’s Constantine will be back for The CW’s Legends of Tomorrow season 3 finale. Fans have been clamoring for more Constantine since the character made a guest-starring appearance during the show’s 2018 midseason premiere.
For the Arrowverse, 2018 could be the year of Constantine. Following the cancellation of his NBC series, Constantine’s future was left in limbo until the character made his Arrowverse debut in Arrow season 4 as an old acquaintance of Oliver Queen. Constantine will soon to receive his own animated series, which will actually be darker than his live-action show. Fans of the chain-smoking supernatural detective rejoiced when it was announced that he would also be making an appearance in Legends of Tomorrow season 3.
EW reports that Constantine will return for the season finale, “The Good, The Bad, And The Cuddly”. Constantine’s return in season 3 was first rumored when a set photo taken by Nick Zano appeared to include Constantine actor Matt Ryan. This will actually be Constantine’s third episode of the season, as he is also slated to appear in the 15th episode. Titled “Necromancing the Stone”, the episode will also feature Jesse Quick (Violett Beane) in her first Arrowverse appearance outside of The Flash.
Constantine won’t be the only Arrowverse hero visiting the Waverider in the season 3 finale. Fans can also expect to see the return of Western outlaw Jonah Hex (Johnathon Schaech) and former team member Jax (Franz Drameh), who left the series in the midseason finale. Considering the number of heroes appearing in a single episode, we can infer that the Legends will need every ounce of power they can muster to defeat the evil Mallus (voiced by John Noble) and Damien Darhk (Neal McDonough).
Keeping in mind the nature of their enemy, Constantine’s involvement makes perfect sense. His expertise in demonology could make him an important ally when it comes to stopping Mallus and Darhk. It’s also possible that his warning to Ray (Brandon Routh) will play out in the season finale. Constantine told Ray that he would have to kill Sara (Caity Lotz) if Mallus took complete control of her. If Ray isn’t able to go through with it, Constantine may take it upon himself to kill Sara.
Legends of Tomorrow continues with “No Country for Old Dads” on Monday, March 5 at 9pm ET on The CW.

Marvel Comics legend Stan Lee reveals in a new video he is currently battling pneumonia. This marks the second health scare the 95-year old has endured in 2018, as he was hospitalized earlier this month due to an irregular heartbeat. In that previous incident, Lee had to stay at the hospital for only one night before going back home, where he gave an interview indicating he was in high spirits – joking that a medical check up did him a lot of good.
Lee was scheduled to appear at Wizard World Cleveland 2018, but ended up not attending due to “unforeseen circumstances” (that being the official reasoning given on the event’s Facebook page). It appears those circumstances involved his health condition, and now he’s given fans an update on how he’s feeling.
TMZ posted a video message from Lee, where the comics icon announced he has pneumonia, which caused him to cancel convention appearances. He expressed his gratitude for the fans and all their support:
“I want you all to know I’m thinking of you, of course I always think of the fans, and I hope you’re all doing well, and I miss you all. I miss your enthusiasm, I miss all your notes, all your photos and emails
and I want you to know that I still love you all.”
Due to the illness, Lee is not his usual energetic self in the video. However, he assures everyone “it seems to be getting better” and hopes the next time we see him, “I’ll have some of this pneumonia knocked down, and we can have some real fun over the internet.” Lee is obviously quite disappointed he won’t be able to interact with all of Marvel’s adoring fans in-person on show floors, but it’s important he takes whatever time he needs to make a full recovery. Ideally, he’ll be at full strength in the near future and then he can head back out on the convention circuit to celebrate with attendees.
In the meantime, Lee will continue to have a presence in the Marvel Cinematic Universe with his ubiquitous cameos. Viewers have seen his most self-aware role in the hit Black Panther, and he’s already shot his parts for Avengers: Infinity War, Ant-Man and the Wasp, and The Avengers 4. With other MCU titles like Captain Marvel and Spider-Man: Homecoming 2 beginning production later this year, hopefully Lee will be able to keep his streak going and help Marvel Studios kick off their Phase 4.

The first reviews have arrived for Jessica Jones season 2, and while they praise the cast it seems the series still suffers from Netflix’s pacing issues. Netflix has had a lot of success with their original series, especially when they’ve teamed up with Marvel. Though Iron Fist and even The Defenders had their detractors, Daredevil and Jessica Jones won countless praise for their first seasons. As such, anticipation has been high for the return of Krysten Ritter’s show, especially as the Jessica Jones season 2 trailer proved everything we loved was coming back.
Though Ritter and the supporting cast gathered praise and the show’s focus on life after sexual abuse was one of the boldest things a comic book show has done, David Tennant’s Kilgrave was also a big part of season 1’s appeal. While Jessica dispatched her abuser in the finale, we know Kilgrave is back thanks to some images and teasers from the show. They appear to be all in Jessica’s head, but they also ensure some continuity between the episodes. But when it comes to the early reviews of the new season, it seems the character’s absence removes some of the show’s dynamism.
The first five episodes of Jessica Jones season 2 were sent out to critics, and they’ve begun weighing in on the show. Though many are quick to claim the charms and intensity of season 1 are till present, it’s clear that critics miss Kilgrave. And Netflix’s notorious issues with episode and season length also mean the new season has some pacing issues.
Collider – Allison Keene – No Grade
The first episode (out of five sent for review) is clunky, both in its dialogue and its pacing (more on that in a minute). But what it does achieve is a new investigation for Jessica that keeps things personal. One of the great triumphs of the show’s first season was how we watched her deal — or not deal — with her PTSD from the abuses of Kilgrave (David Tennant), an evil she defeated in the finale. The show is certainly missing him as a driving force, but there’s still a lot for Jessica to process, going back to the death of her family as well as her abduction and torture during the illegal experiments that gave her powers. She’s a cool girl who doesn’t care, until she has to — and then she does, deeply.
Indie Wire – Liz Shannon Miller – B
There was an undercurrent of terror throughout “Jessica Jones” Season 1 that gave the series a darkness and dynamism which elevated it over previous Marvel series; Season 2 lacks that in its first five episodes. Yet there are still eight to go, which is plenty of time for Jessica to make bad decisions in her fight to do right. And one thing remains unchanged — her story is singularly hers, uncompromising and unapologetically all about what we’ve come to love about this character. The point of Jessica Jones isn’t that she’s a hero, but that she’s still standing despite everything that’s happened to her, and everything she is. So even if her story takes its sweet time to get going, we’re still glad to be on the journey with her.
Polygon – Susana Polo – No Grade
The episodes available to press presented a show that told its story too slowly, and a story that was difficult to become invested in. I can admit: I’m going to stick it out until the end, because of the goodwill Jessica Jones bought with its first season. And also because the fifth episode showed a bit of an upswing, by finally giving our villain the time and space to be properly frightening to the world.
Den of Geek – Delia Harrington – No Grade
Jessica Jones Season 2 is a different animal from the electric first season, but that’s to be expected, and is largely a good thing. The sophomore season brings with it a deeper sense of our main characters, which couples well thematically with the central mystery of the season, the origin of Jessica’s powers. One of Marvel’s most successful shows, Season 2 breaks new ground without forgetting what made it so compelling to watch in the first place.
The Mary Sue – Marykate Jasper – No Grade
In sum, this season feels less binge-worthy, thanks to its story and villain problems. But I still loved getting to reunite with these characters. This is still very much a series with something to say—about trauma, about women’s anger, and about trying to survive without losing the person you want to be. In the era of peak TV, when so many series are technically well-crafted but not necessarily showing up with something to say, that makes Jessica Jones so worth watching for me.
Empire – Dan Jolin – 3/5
Krysten Ritter’s still on top acerbic, deadpan form, and the (mostly female) writers’ room is generous and proficient with its one-liners. When a cocksure alpha bro-dude struts into Jessica’s office, announces he’s another private eye who wants to buy her out and says he doesn’t take no for an answer, Jessica retorts, “How rapey of you.” So while the plotting feels like it’s back-stepped towards the super-vigilante conventional, she at least remains the most textured and spikily interesting of the Defenders — one whose guilt, self-loathing and rage at least come served with a potent dose of wit.
It’s a shame that Jessica Jones seems to be slow going in parts, but that’s long been a problem for Netflix. Most of their original shows sag in the middle and even throughout episodes, from Daredevil to Altered Carbon. When it comes to season 2 of Jessica Jones, it seems the absence of Kilgrave robs the show of some momentum. Then again, a series built around exploring a character’s life after trauma and abuse should hardly need to rely on the abuser to keep things interesting.
It could be Jessica Jones is still settling into its place post-Kilgrave and we may find the show actually snaps into focus following the early episodes. Indeed, some reviewers note that episode 5 shows promise, so perhaps season 2 of Jessica Jones has inverted the pacing problem: starting out slow and finding its footing before delivering on the promise of season 1. Luckily, fans won’t have to wait much longer to judge for themselves.
Jessica Jones season 2 debuts Thursday March 8 on Netflix.

Production on season 2 of Runaways will reportedly begin this April, and end in September. Hulu got involved with Marvel last year to bring the beloved Runaways characters to life. The first season rolled out on the streaming service over multiple weeks starting in November. In adapting the comic to the small screen, the creators took a slow burn approach. It wasn’t until the closing moments of the first season that the kids actually ran away. Thankfully, Hulu renewed the series for a second season to guarantee fans will eventually get to see the group on the run.
Details on season 2 have been hard to come by, with not even general story teases surfacing thus far. We do know that the main cast will be returning, both the kids and those that portray their evil parents. However, when fans can expect to see the next adventure remains to be seen. Before the series returns, production must first finish, and we may now know the schedule.
Production Weekly (h/t PursueNews) reports season 2 of Runaways will begin filming in late April. Production will once again take place in Los Angeles, and they’ll continue to operate under the Rugrats working title. With this start, Runaways is expected to finish filming in September.
This would be a much tighter production window than what Runaways experienced leading up to its debut. The pilot was filmed last March, but then production took a break while the show waited to discover its fate. Once it was given the full series order by Hulu, filming picked up a few months later before wrapping in late October. It was just a month later that the first three episodes launched. If Hulu follows a similar release window in terms of when production wraps, that could put Runaways season 2 out in October.
Season 2 will be 13 episodes long, which gives it three more episodes than the first season, so that could be another factor behind Runaways possibly being released a few weeks earlier this time around. That is merely speculation at this point, and who knows if Hulu will do multiple episodes a week instead. What this filming schedule ultimately tells us is that it shouldn’t be long before additional cast members join. Even if they don’t add a major character like Victor Mancha in season 2, there’s still plenty of story to tell with the actual Runaways. Will one of them be a mole? Could Gert experience a similar comic arc? What will the parents do next? Season 2 has multiple storylines to follow and possibly adapt, so the sooner they start filming the better.
Marvels Runaways season 1 is currently streaming on Hulu, with season 2 expected to arrive in 2018.

A new promo poster for Game of Thrones teases the final season coming in 2019. HBO’s critically-acclaimed fantasy TV series – based on George R.R. Martin’s A Song of Ice and Fire novel series – is nearing its end with a truncated eighth and final season. Because the season is set primarily in the wintertime, the season’s production schedule was delayed to film during the winter. And so, Game of Thrones‘ final season was also delayed until 2019.
Game of Thrones season 8 is currently filming and will consist of only six episodes, which is one episode shorter than season 7’s seven-episode length and four episodes shorter than every other season. However, some of season 8’s episodes might be feature-length. And that number is clearly enough for producers David Benioff and D.B. Weiss to conclude the story. While it may be some time before the first look and first trailer for Game of Thrones season 8 debuts, that hasn’t stopped HBO from marketing the upcoming the final episodes by reminding people that the series won’t be returning in 2018 and that season 8 is definitely the show’s final season.
Collider revealed the first promo poster for Game of Thrones season 8, which will be showcased at the Licensing Expo in Las Vegas in May. As with most promo posters, HBO’s poster for the series’ final season is minimalistic. Of course, the thing that stands out the most in the poster is that it reaffirms the final season coming in 2019. But what’s also interesting is the inclusion of the coat of arms for the last three great houses left standing: Stark, Targaryen, and Lannister. Take a look at poster above this article.
HBO first premiered Game of Thrones in 2011, and it’s been quite a journey for fans – for those who have and haven’t read the books. After all, since Martin is still working on his latest book, the series was forced to overtake the source material and conclude the story on its own. But, after all this time, the series’ cast and crew members feel that it’s time for Game of Thrones to end. Any number of things can happen in the show’s final six episodes, but in the end, someone will need to sit upon the throne and reign supreme over Westeros. Of course, it’s also possible that the White Walkers could win, and no one will be left alive to rule over the seven kingdoms.
While the mainline Game of Thrones series will ultimately conclude in 2019, HBO is still planning on expanding the world with one or more prequel shows. The network isn’t guaranteeing that a Game of Thrones prequel will happen, but they aren’t ready to let go of the property just yet.
Game of Thrones season 8 premieres in 2019 on HBO.

As far as video games ready for a feature film adaptation, Naughty Dog’s Uncharted series seems to be at the top of the list. But the company’s creative director Neil Druckmann doesn’t want a direct adaptation of any one chapter of the franchise. Instead, Druckmann says he’s looking forward to the planned origin story of Nathan Drake, as will presumably be told by Stranger Things producer Shawn Levy and current MCU Spider-Man, Tom Holland.
Druckmann’s comments come as Hollywood is still searching for a true critical and financial hit to come from the world of video games. Past attempts have attracted some big names, like Michael Fassbender, Angelina Jolie, and Jake Gyllenhaal, but none have achieved the same level of success as, say, adaptations of comic books. That may be subject to change, with both Alicia Vikander’s Tomb Raider reboot and the Dwayne Johnson-led Rampage set to arrive in theaters this year. Given Johnson’s recent success with Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle, the idea of him chasing down giant CGI beasts with the help of an overgrown gorilla buddy suggests it stands a chance of at least having a solid return at the box office. The potential for Tomb Raider’s success, however, comes with more of a question mark attached.
Should those movies fail to connect with critics and moviegoers, that might leave Levy’s Uncharted film as the industry’s next hope of breaking the dreaded video game curse — provided you think there even is such a thing. And while speaking with 10 Cloverfield Lane director, Dan Trachtenberg, at DICE Summit 2018, Druckmann believes the direction the film is headed is the right one. Druckmann said:
“The Uncharted movie, yeah, we’ve had some conversations with Shawn Levy. And he’s really passionate, gets it, and I think he understands where we’re at. We’ve kind of evolved our feelings towards these kind of adaptations over the years. We used to just be excited, ‘Oh, my god, movies are looking at us. There could be an Uncharted movie on the screen.’ And then as more time passes on, we’re not excited about a direct adaptation of the story we told, because we feel like we’ve already told that story very well, cinematically, so I don’t know what else you could bring to it.
[Shawn Levy] wanting to tell a different story than the main four adventures – with potentially a young Nathan Drake, that fills in the gaps – I think is a lot more interesting than trying to retell Uncharted 1, 2, 3, and 4.”
Druckmann makes a good point, as the Uncharted games weren’t praised simply for their graphics or action sequences; they often earned high marks for their storytelling. The level of writing craft on those games is part of why Nathan Drake seems like a natural fit for the big screen — because Naughty Dog has already delivered narratives that feel like they’re on par with a big summer blockbuster. And when Druckmann says, “We’ve already told that story very well” it’s difficult to argue against the point he’s making.
In addition, an Uncharted movie is already going to be facing a number of challenges, so asking that it also be a faithful retelling of a story that was already done about as well as it could be, and in a similar medium, is really stacking the deck against it. Skepticism for a young Nathan Drake film isn’t going to completely go away, but perhaps Druckmann’s points will be enough to change a few people’s minds.

A new report provides character descriptions for the new faces we’ll be seeing in season 3 of Stranger Things. The smash hit Netflix series may not be returning until 2019, but the production team is already gearing up to begin filming this spring. Fans that were a bit overwhelmed by all the new characters that joined the fray in season 2 will be relieved to learn that the series is only looking to add three recurring guest star roles — for now, anyway.
Despite all the new additions, the focus of the series remains on the headlining group of pals (Eleven, Mike, Dustin, Lucas, and Will) and their families, as well as Chief Jim Hopper, of course. The kids remain the clear strength of the series, and while they may have gained a member last season in young Max, their effortless chemistry shined just as bright in season 2, which was arguably better than the show’s inaugural outing. The fresh faces in Hawkins, Indiana only added to the show’s awesomeness, with Paul Reiser’s Dr. Owens and Sean Astin’s Bob Newby emerging as standout newcomers.
It looks like Hawkins is set to get a bit more crowded in season 3, as That Hashtag Show is reporting that a trio of new characters will soon be added to the cast. The site also managed to snag detailed descriptions of those characters from their source, which you can check out for yourself below. (Note: the character names may be temporary placeholders.)
“Mayor Larry Kline.” Described as a classic, 80’s style slick politician, “Kline” is described as pathetic and driven only by his own interests. The studio is looking for a male, 40s-60s, to fill the role.
“Bruce.” A morally compromised news reporter in his 50s, “Bruce” was described as outwardly sexist, overweight and bedraggled.
“Patricia Brown.” “Patricia” seems to be filing the role of the sweet, neighborhood elder. The studio is looking for a woman in her 70s for the role which will see her spending a lot of time tending to her garden and offering her advice to the neighborhood kids. Given the Duffer brothers affinity for subverting expectations, we find ourselves wondering if this sweet old lady might have some connection to the Upside Down; then again, that might be just the type of thing they want us to think we know and she just ends up a sweet old lady
Given how much season 2’s cast additions ended up impacting the storyline, we wouldn’t be surprised to learn that there’s a bit more to these characters than their descriptions would imply. Any one of them could easily slide into an antagonistic role on the series — hell, all of them could. The smart money there is obviously on Mayor Kline and Bruce, but we certainly agree with That Hashtag Show that a “oh man, Patricia Brown is evil?!” twist would be pretty fantastic.

Warning: This article contains SPOILERS from The Walking Dead comics.
As AMC’s The Walking Dead shuffles to the end of All Out War in season 8, showrunner Scott Gimple promises that his version of the story will be drastically different from the comics in a finale that is almost “too big” for viewers to handle.
The TV world of The Walking Dead has always prided itself on shocking fans by playing fast and loose with the source material, using Robert Kirkman’s comics as only a guideline of how the zombie apocalypse should pan out on-screen. From the early graves of major characters – namely Laurie Holden’s Andrea and, more recently, Chandler Riggs’ Carl – the show has also given Melissa McBride’s Carol and extended shelf-life and created a whole new character in Norman Reedus’ Daryl. Now, as the ongoing war with Negan and his Saviors unfolds and reaches a precipice, Gimple is encouraging fans to throw out the rule book and prepare for an action-packed send-off.
In an interview with EW, Gimple told fans what they can (and, perhaps, can’t) expect when season 8 wraps up its remaining run of episodes.
“It’s very big. Probably currently a little too big. It was pretty amazing the scope of some of the things that we got to do. And yet the emotional intensity was insane. And it very much sets up the start of the next story.”
The comic book version of All Out War eventually comes to some sort of resolution as Rick spares Negan to make him his prisoner. As the issues go on and move into the next story arc, Negan becomes something of an awkward ally and even helps the Safe Zone defeat the threat of the Whisperers. However, there is a big question hanging over whether Andrew Lincoln’s screen version of Rick will be willing to spare Negan’s life? According to the showrunner, no one is safe as he offers some even bigger changes for his “big” finale:
“I think emotionally we’re aspiring to evoke the same feeling that [creator Robert Kirkman] achieved in the book. But from the butterfly effect and different characters around that weren’t and vice versa, and even just the thrust of the story, how things play out are quite different in a lot of ways. There are some big changes that change the very outcome of certain aspects of the story — still trying to be true to the emotions of the story, but changing some big parts of it. It plays out very differently.”
With Negan particularly eyeing the likes of Rick, Ezekiel, and Maggie, who knows who’s next on Lucille’s hit list? While a contract extension of Jeffrey Dean Morgan into season 9 would offer some tantalizing details, and maybe offer Rick and Negan a chance to bury the hatchet, the shocking extent of the Saviors’ violence has played out much more vividly on screens than in the comics. Ultimately, it will be up to new Walking Dead showrunner Angela Kang to decide what to do with Gimple’s leftover plot threads when she takes over for season 9.
Either way, audiences won’t find out until April 15, when The Walking Dead‘s season 8 finale airs, but Gimple’s comments are sure to rattle a few cages. Alongside Carl’s surprising walker bite in the midseason finale, who knows what else Gimple has up his sleeve to keep viewers talking all the way to season 9. Even if Negan is left breathing after this season finale, it will likely be a decision that will split The Walking Dead fans down the middle, but hey, that’s why the show is different.
Keep up with The Walking Dead Sundays, 9pm ET on AMC.

Marvel’s Black Panther continues to make box office history by scoring the biggest second weekend in the storied history of the MCU. Coogler’s entry in the franchise has become an undisputed cultural phenomenon – even by Marvel’s lofty standards. Released to widespread praise from critics and fans, Black Panther stormed out of the gates with a whopping $242 million opening during the 4-day Presidents Day weekend. It’s just the fifth film in history to post those kinds of numbers, and with word-of-mouth remaining very strong, it was all but guaranteed to have massive legs commercially.
The conversation going into Black Panther‘s second weekend was if it would be able to earn $100 million or more, a feat accomplished only by Star Wars: The Force Awakens, Jurassic World, and The Avengers before. It seemed to have a clear road to that figure, considering how it has dominated the zeitgeist and faced minimal competition for ticket sales. And now that the numbers have come in, we can add yet another mark to Black Panther‘s already extensive list of achievements.
Per Box Office Mojo, Black Panther grossed $108 million in its second weekend, dropping only 46.5 percent from its debut. This is the best second weekend in the MCU (besting Avengers‘ $103 million) and the second biggest all-time (The Force Awakens; $149.2 million). With this haul, Black Panther is now up to $400 million domestically, passing the figure in just 10 days – a full four days before The Avengers reached that threshold. Only The Force Awakens (8 days) made $400 million quicker. Simply put, Black Panther is in exclusive company.
A couple weeks prior to Black Panther‘s premiere, longterm projections had it pegged to earn at least $400 million for its entire domestic run. The film has obviously far exceeded those expectations, and will definitely go down as one of the biggest films (not just comic book or MCU) ever. The all-time domestic record (The Force Awakens; $936.6 million) won’t be topped, but if Black Panther holds like this for another few weeks, it should be able to find its way into the top five, edging out The Avengers‘ $623.3 million. At best, it’s extremely possible Black Panther ends up dethroning Titanic ($659.3 million) from the #3 position, but that will depend on how it performs in March. That month sees a bevy of genre films, like A Wrinkle in Time and Ready Player One, that will be taking away screens.
This week’s new releases, Game Night and Annihilation, debuted to much more modest numbers. The former, boosted by positive reviews, earned $16.6 million in its first three days, doing the best it could as a counter-programming option for adults and date night couples. Alex Garland’s Annihilation finished in fourth place in its opening weekend, grossing $11 million. Though the sci-fi drama earned praise for its ambition, beautiful visuals, and strong performances, it was not seen as a highly accessible film, which limited its appeal.

10# Poe, Luke, and Leia
Luke Skywalker’s appearance on Crait turned out to be a significant moment for Poe Dameron as well, according to the Story Group. In fact, Poe had been working with Leia to find Luke for a long time. Luke was Poe’s mission, and our first introduction to the new trilogy was through Poe on Jakku trying to complete his mission to find Luke via the map that leads to Ahch-To. (Why a map to Skywalker existed in the first place remains one of the unanswered questions of the trilogy.)
To Poe’s amazement, and maybe his chagrin, after all of his efforts, including being tortured by the First Order, suddenly Luke just shows up on Crait! The Story Group noted that this may be the first time Poe has ever seen Luke Skywalker, the legendary twin brother of his mentor General Leia Organa – though technically Poe has still never actually seen Luke ‘in the flesh’, and now, sadly, he never will.
