"He did learn them rather quickly. I still have problems with it at times. It's too bloody sweet on the tongue, yeah?" Her grin was w i d e as she took the sword from him, swinging it around and testing its weight && b a l a n c e. This was her favorite thing to do--feel her body move in precision so that she could meet her t a r g e t. She preferred the feel of an ax the most, but that hadn't [stopped] her from learning how to wield a sword and a bow. "Are you ready to 'die' a bunch, little brother?"
STRANGE AND stranger still. Though he is responsible for my excellent Elvish —
( he winked at her and held out a sword by the scabbard for her. )
Come on. I’ve had the pits cleared, so it’ll just be us.

The thought of Mother finding out caused a s h i v e r to roll down her spine. Naneth was positively FRIGHTENING when she was angry. "It'll be our own little secret, yeah? I don't much like trainin' with the Maester." In t r u t h, she just enjoyed the company of her father. The Maester was an old grump of a dwarf who never found her funny and criticized her skills with a weapon, even though she was g o o d.
( kili smiled kindly at his daughter, a laugh on the tip of his tongue. always so eager, always looking for a sword to swing, an arrow to shoot, an axe to throw. )
WELL, I suppose I did promise, my girl. Just don’t tell your mother I had you in the archery range, she’ll have my guts. You’re supposed to be in lessons with the Maester.

His answer caused her to take pause-- it was an answer she wasn't ready for, but seemed no less just. She didn't see much harm in sharing the road, and once they crossed into the land of her mother's people, she would be under their protection. "I seek refuge at the halls of the elven king Thranduil. I would not mind sharing the road, if it be just until I arrive at the opening in which will take me to his Halls." A faint pause-- "You do not seem to be from around here. Do you hail from Gondor or Rohan, perhaps?"
'Destination.'
He rolled the term against his lips as if it were heavy, as if it were weighted leaden. When he descended to this plane, he no more knew where he was headed than he knew where he was.
'I would go somewhere worth seeing.'

"Last time I told him that, he seemed to be considering it--I wouldn't encourage him, Frerin." The smile that graced her lips was brief at best, and she hoisted the bow that her father had made for her more s e c u r e l y onto her back. "Though, if he were to come along, I'd likely get confused and keep calling you Hîr, like last time."
“Is he at it again? I mean, sure books are nice. But he might as well turn into one if he continues that! As answer to your question, I’d love to.”

"Where is it that marks yer destination?" She herself had been making for the Woodland Realm to visit her brother, made Squire for King Thranduil. She didn't have reason to mistrust the stranger, but nor was she foolish enough to let her guard down.
'Then perhaps you would consent to accompany me?'
There’s a tease in his voice, reminiscent of his days as an uncle.
As a father.
'The road's no place for an old man.'

I'll be properly on this account tomorrow (or rather sunday since a college friend is coming into town) when I won't be breakin' everyone's tags. You can find me on Tau or Serg for now! You can also like this and I'll whip up a starter when I can! c:
