So... I found this and now it keeps coming to mind. You hear about "life-changing writing advice" all the time and usually its really not—but honestly this is it man.
I'm going to try it.

How to avoid White Room Syndrome
by Writerthreads on Instagram
A common problem writers face is "white room syndrome"—when scenes feel like they’re happening in an empty white room. To avoid this, it's important to describe settings in a way that makes them feel real and alive, without overloading readers with too much detail. Here are a few tips below to help!
Focus on a few key details
You don’t need to describe everything in the scene—just pick a couple of specific, memorable details to bring the setting to life. Maybe it’s the creaky floorboards in an old house, the musty smell of a forgotten attic, or the soft hum of a refrigerator in a small kitchen. These little details help anchor the scene and give readers something to picture, without dragging the action with heaps of descriptions.
Engage the senses
Instead of just focusing on what characters can see, try to incorporate all five senses—what do they hear, smell, feel, or even taste? Describe the smell of fresh bread from a nearby bakery, or the damp chill of a foggy morning. This adds a lot of depth and make the location feel more real and imaginable.
Mix descriptions with actions
Have characters interact with the environment. How do your characters move through the space? Are they brushing their hands over a dusty bookshelf, shuffling through fallen leaves, or squeezing through a crowded subway car? Instead of dumping a paragraph of description, mix it in with the action or dialogue.
Use the setting to reflect a mood or theme
Sometimes, the setting can do more than just provide a backdrop—it can reinforce the mood of a scene or even reflect a theme in the story. A stormy night might enhance tension, while a warm, sunny day might highlight a moment of peace. The environment can add an extra layer to what’s happening symbolically.
Here's an example of writing a description that hopefully feels alive and realistic, without dragging the action:
The bookstore was tucked between two brick buildings, its faded sign creaking with every gust of wind. Inside, the air was thick with the scent of worn paper and dust, mingling with the faint aroma of freshly brewed coffee from a corner café down the street. The wooden floorboards groaned as Ella wandered between the shelves, her fingertips brushing the spines of forgotten novels. Somewhere in the back, the soft sound of jazz crackled from an ancient radio.
Hope these tips help in your writing!

creepy and kooky, mysterious and spooky … sentence starters
“We aren’t alone here.”
“Its eyes keep following me.”
“I think this place is haunted.”
“Something just touched me…”
“Is that you flickering the lights?”
“That sounds like… children laughing.”
“I’m not imagining it, there was a face!”
“Is it just me, or do those look like eyes?”
“I swear, there was someone watching us!”
“No, that looks like blood. Why is there blood?”
“The branches look like they’re reaching for us… “
“I don’t think we should stay here. It doesn’t feel safe.”
“Oh my god, this is like something out of a horror movie.”
“Take it from me, you should sleep with the light on here.”
“I’ll pay you $20 bucks if you spend the night here, alone.”
“That chair just moved… oh my god, that chair just moved!”
“He’s right there. Can’t you see him? He’s right behind you.”
“Don’t worry, it was just some old story. I’m sure it’s not real.”
“And they say on a night like tonight, you can still hear her singing…”
“No one else is supposed to be here tonight… so, why am I hearing crying?”
“Haha, that was really funny, knocking on the walls like — what do you mean that wasn’t you?”

"I still don't think there's anything impressive or romantic about this."
"You realise I'm still here, right?"
"Nothing ever changes with you, does it?"
"I'm sure you have an abundance of questions, but I doubt I'll answer any of them."
"Must you always be such a smartass?"
"Unless you have an IQ higher than mine, I'm not interested in what you think."
"How come every time you come around, someone ends up getting hurt?"
"Don't you dare follow me!"
"You understand better than most the pain a lie can inflict."
"You used me."
"You don't believe I can do it? Well, I can!"
"I think this is a conversation for another time."
"I really don't want to have this conversation right now."
"You don't know what you're talking about. Can we not do this right now?"
"Don't worry about me. I don't want it, I don't need it. Just don't do it."
"Why would you say something like that? What kind of person says something like that?"
"Am I to take it you believe in this quote-unquote 'plan'?"
"You know what? My offer just expired."
"Didn't your mother ever teach you not to touch other people's things?"
"You're stepping over a line here. You might want to step back."
"Oh, you really love yourself, don't you?"
"That's rather petty, even for you!"
"You could have killed me! You didn't, but you could have!"
"This isn't a game."
"So now you're a psychologist too?"
"You know, maybe I'm not the problem? Maybe it's you!"
"If you want to complain about life, you're talking to the wrong guy."
"You're giving me orders now?"
"I'm awfully bored of your shouting."
"You're not lying to me, are you?"

So Mello is back in the picture already. Matt throws his head back and stares at the ceiling while breathing out the smoke. There isn't much time to waste.
"Eh, sorta both I guess," he starts, looking back at the other while playing with the cigarette in his hand. "I did think about time bullshittery for a bit but never really committed." Same could be said about everything in your life he thinks, but shakes the thought away with a literal headshake.
"And I'd say that I'm you but I dun think that's strictly true, this world ain't fully right. I'm a version of you, I suppose? Or the other way around." Matt shrugs, drums his fingers on the lid of the pizza box next to him.
"Either way you should get some of this pie, it smells fuckin' delicious and I'm stealing a slice. Meat feast?"
Matt watches warily as the older man waltzes into the apartment, pizza in hand. He can't help but notice how the other navigates the cluttered space, as if it's second nature. Matt's brow furrows, wondering why this stranger seems so at home in his home.
"Okay, rude." Matt said, his tone surprisingly nonchalant despite the suspicion he felt.
"Yeah, a few weeks back." A hand rests on his hip, his gaze never leaving the other.
"So. Either I snapped sometime in the future and invented a time machine, or you're some relative that I don't know about. I don't know how I feel about either of those answers. So… start talking."
