Writing snippet I'm working on for Akiyasu and Satoko's romance chapter in The Ashen Moon:

Akiyasu eventually settles on one that is mostly black with some white designs on it. His fingers lift the fabric, studying the white designs that come to decorate the sleeves. Dragons, he realizes on a closer inspection. He has always loved dragons, and so he cannot not get it. He takes it back to the front, to Satoko. "Soko," he calls her. He does not miss the way her lips widen into a big grin as he calls her with such familiarity. She eyes the haori he has chosen. "... That one?" She wonders softly.

— Soko is a nickname for Satoko, which only works if her name is written as "wise child," and not "wisdom child." The way I write her name is indeed the first one tho.

These are Hanzo's parents for anyone needing a refresher.

— Pyromancer. Supposedly, his mother ate a red flower just before he was born, and he inherited his powers that way.

— Born into the Lin Kuei, Yuran began training when he was 9– alongside a slightly older girl named Chunhua, whose code name was Sprout. She and him both trained under Moonseed, a slightly older Lin Kuei girl who had been assigned to them once she got her mantle. It was two years later that she died horrifically on a mission, and he and Sprout became her twin brother Chaoxiang's apprentices instead.

He was not a good mentor, and absolutely lost it at his sisters death. The cryomancer would subject Yuran to a beating in the name of "sparring."

— On the occasion of one of those spars, frostbite as a result of Chaoxiang's powers embedded itself into his shoulder blades, causing him to have a very bad back that would act up in the cold. Leading the pyromancer to have a fear of the cold + on top of Chaoxiang's "sparring" sessions.

— Very emotional person, who was sadly shamed and ridiculed for it in a clan where indifference was valued.

— When he was around thirty-one, Chunhua decided enough was enough and decided she would do everything in her power to get Yuran out of the Lin Kuei. It was a month's worth of planning before she caused a fire where the Lin Kuei stored their poisons, and then ran off with Yuran in tow.

However, they were followed by three others: A group of three Lin Kuei whose code names were Gale, Forest, and Phthalo. Yuran ran off while Chunhua fought Gale and Phthalo, but he was followed by Forest. However... Forest, due to having a crush on Yuran, let him go.

Yuran ran off, although the Lin Kuei had put traps around Arctika in case anyone ever tried to run. So he was incredibly injured by the time he reached the border. It was there he was found by the person who had the Scorpion mantle at the time— Satoko Hasashi. She took one look at him, knowing he wouldn't survive if she didn't help him, and took him back to Japan with her.

— On the way there, Satoko suggested the name "Akiyasu" for him to use, since he was clearly running away from the Lin Kuei. It was a name that combined the Japanese characters for autumn 'Aki' and to protect 'Yasu.'

— Since he was Lin Kuei, the Grandmaster put him under Satoko to be watched. So that it could be proved he could be trusted. The two bonded over time, and within the next year, Satoko had Hanzo, their first son.

— Man cried every single time each of his (4) kids were born. He was also the house husband!! He stayed home and took care of their kids while Satoko went on missions and stuff.

— Wore a black and white haori, as a birthday gift from Satoko from about right before their second son Naito was born. He always wore it, and roughly translated Satoko's name in Chinese before he stitched those characters into his haori.

— In age order, his kids names were Hanzo (half hidden), Fuyuhime (Winter princess), Naito (summer affection), and Harueko (spring blessing child). Hanzo, Fuyuhime and Harueko inherited their mother's obsidian eyes while Naito was the only one to get his molten gold eyes. Hanzo & Harueko were also the only ones to get his pyromancy.

— Didn't want any of his kids to join the Shirai Ryu, but also didn't prevent them from doing what they wanted to. Hanzo, Harueko, and Naito all joined the Shirai Ryu officially as warriors. So Akiyasu made sure they were prepared for anything the Lin Kuei threw at them. So they were well versed in speaking and writing both Mandarin and Cantonese, and he'd built up their immunity to poisons, as well as teaching them the Lin Kuei's tricks.

(All in all, the Lin Kuei were not amused and very confused as to how three Shirai Ryu knew how they worked... When they were too young to be defectors.)

— His real name Huo Yuran contains the characters for fire (Huo), rare treasure (Yu) + light fire/ignite (Ran).

— Raised his sons to know that it was okay to cry & be emotional.

— Raging bisexual. Tbh all his kids came out a little fruity. Thank you, that is all.

I think the favorite continuity between my fics that I've done is making Hydro, Cyrax and Smoke all consider each other their brothers. So incorrect quotes between these three. Featuring Norwegian-Polish Hydro for this one folks.

Tomáš: Oh no, where did it go?

Cyrax: TOMÁŠ WHAT THE FUCK?!

Hydro: A glass of water is an inanimate object. Therefore, it's incapable of having a thought process or understanding basic human language.

Hanzo: Kuai Liang, my father was a Chinese man. I'm Sino-Japanese.

Kuai Liang lets this process for a minute.

Kuai Liang: ... Huh.

Recognizing I made Hanzo Sino-Japanese with making his dad a Chinese man in my version of his parents. So... essentially:

Kuai Liang: *just got done swearing at someone in Chinese at a meeting*

Hanzo, without looking up: I didn't know you had such a colorful vocabulary.

Kuai Liang, pausing: ... Hold on. You understood that?

Hanzo: Every word

I hc that Kuai Liang also has a habit of reverting to Chinese for things he doesn't want others to understand, like insulting Raiden, muttering about being annoyed at boring meetings, or complimenting Hanzo

Hanzo: All my life, why?

So... I have some things written out for his dad lol. [Tysm he is very dear to me.]

— Four children, in age order: Hanzo, Fuyuhime, Naito, and Harueko

— Now for name meanings. So Hanzo's name generally means "half hidden" so I took some liberty into thinking maybe... Akiyasu wanted his son to remain half hidden, since uh... former Lin Kuei living among the Shirai Ryu!

Fuyuhime means "winter princess," Naito means "summer love/affection" & Harueko together means "spring blessing child."

— Hanzo is the splitting image of his father, with the only difference is that Akiyasu had eyes of molten gold due to his pyromancy, while Satoko (Hanzo's mom) had the obsidian eyes that Hanzo, Harueko, and Fuyuhime inherited. Only Hanzo's little brother Naito inherited Akiyasu's eyes.

(Do I dare say that Hanzo having a little brother in this makes his guilt abt killing and taking away an older brother from their younger brother worse? Like so much freaking worse??)

— Akiyasu despite everything, ahem, is incredibly scared of the cold. He associates it with Arctika and being cold is probably near impossible with him being a pyromancer, but he still *feels* cold sometimes.

— Akiyasu really drew the short end of the stick, cause he really did not want his children to be Shirai Ryu in case any Lin Kuei recognized they were his kids 💔 but Naito, Harueko, and Hanzo all wanted to become Shirai Ryu. Harueko and Hanzo both inherited his pyromancy too. Man can't catch a break, but he did train his children on the Lin Kuei's tactics so they weren't caught off guard. (I'm sure it annoyed the Lin Kuei to no end, cause what do you mean these three Shirai Ryu have built up an immunity to poison, know Mandarin and Cantonese AND their writing systems.. and they're never caught off guard 💔 It pissed them off I'm sure)

So I've gotten to writing through my versions of Hanzo's parents. Specifically made his dad a Lin Kuei who ran, and was saved by his mother. And ykw, Jiahao and Akiyasu (technically his name was Yuran before but he changed it) just might get along. Especially since they probably would've known each other.

So instead of Osamu, I present...

Akiyasu, who took his kids and wife on a vacation to the States, running into Jiahao: ... Avalanche?!

Jiahao: ... Pyre??

(Throwing in my headcanon of Hanzo having pyromancy from the start, but becoming a wraith made it more powerful. This was just a fun little thing 💔)

The time of writing this ask was awhile ago I think! I finished that particular Bi-Han fic 3 weeks ago. I'll link it just in case.

But in the case of Feiyue, here's the thing about her. She was a very stubborn girl, and she and Chaoxiang were twins. She wasn't technically a cryomancer, but had the physical attributes of one. Very white hair, and her eyes were like a whiteish gray.

- I put some thought into her name. [Read: I put a lot of thought into every single character of mine's name.] So her name is comprised of two characters– (霏/Fēi) meaning "the fall of snow and rain" and (月/Yuè) which means "moon."

- Her and her brother originally were on the streets, as their original parents kicked Chaoxiang out for being a cryomancer. She wasn't kicked out, but she refused to leave her twin's side. She was the older twin, so Chaoxiang would call her "Dajie" (eldest sister) or just "Jiejie" (big sister). She'd taken to stealing things to survive, and she stole from Shuang, the previous Sub-Zero. Thankfully he was an honorable man and decided to follow her, and take her and Chaoxiang in.

- As the eldest sibling with siblings with different surnames, I made her and Chaoxiang have different surnames. Feiyue's was originally Lin, which meant forest. And Chaoxiang's was originally Zhai which meant feather. When the twins got their mantles, they took their adoptive father's surname Yinchen.

I looked, and I mean I REALLY looked into what Yinchen meant because I think I used a name generator? And I couldn't find the pinyin for it, but Yinchen (因珍) means silver treasure. Which I think fits a family of cryomancers.

— Anyway. Feiyue was in love/best friends with a Kenyan woman who went by Qiaodie because she didn't remember her real name. (It is originally Zahra/flower). This is like half the reason that Chaoxiang generally doesn't like Kuai Liang, Tomas, OR Cyrax. Tomas and Cyrax both remind him too much of Qiaodie (even if... Cyrax is from a different country than Qiaodie completely). And Kuai Liang reminds him too much of his sister.

- Chaoxiang is definitely twisted later in his adult years, but Bi-Han, who reminds him so much of his father Shuang, is his favorite child. It's kind of like that one audio "my father is the worst man alive and I am his favorite son (daughter)."

I think it's been awhile since I yapped about my version of the Sub-Zero brothers, like how I write them? More since I'm currently writing a Bi-Han fic atm.

— Starting with their surnames.

I think I've said how their dad Chaoxiang's surname is Yinchen? But neither of them have their father's surname. Bi-Han because he has his mother's surname, and Kuai Liang because he just straight up refuses to associate with Chaoxiang since he was... not a good person. (I still think Jiahao would have a stroke over meeting Chaoxiang 💀 He loved his kids, imagine meeting someone who purposely put his kids through the ringer.)

Bi-Han's is Kuang– a last name that's supposed to mean "bright/light/illustrious" which... has two main points to that. The first one is that Bi-Han's mother was a very bright woman, who was kind who lit up every room she walked into. The second one is a bit darker in that Bi-Han became the exact opposite of what his surname implies.

Kuai Liang's surname, however, is Sun. Which means "descendant/grandchild." Originally, it's Yinchen, but I'd like to say Bi-Han found a father figure (whose surname was also Sun) in the Lin Kuei, who suggested it because Kuai Liang is the grandchild of the first Sub-Zero.

— The aforementioned father figure. His name was Sun Jiarong. Jiarong was like... a partner in kombat for their grandfather, and was like.. in his 70s when Bi-Han and Kuai Liang joined(?) so he's considered ancient. Possibly the only one who actually treated Bi-Han like he was human when he became Sub-Zero.

— Sub-Zero brothers being 10 years older/younger than one another. Bi-Han was 9 going on 10 & Kuai Liang was just a few months old when Chaoxiang brought them to the Lin Kuei.

— On another note, both brothers having childhood memory loss. Kuai Liang isn't that bad, since Bi-Han tried to make it so he had a relatively "happy" childhood even tho no one's really happy in the Lin Kuei. But Bi-Han? Kuai Liang will ask him about something that happened in their childhood, that he remembers when he's like 5 or so, and Bi-Han won't remember at all.

♠︎ More things about Chaoxiang coming soon maybe?? He had a sister who was called Moonseed/Feiyue, and losing her kind of made him go... yeah.

I usually write Bi-Han & Kuai Liang being from a small town in China, not too far from the Lin Kuei. But I do kind of want to give writing them being from Alaska a try, maybe. It could be fun, I think.

If you want to try them being from alaska, there is a skin in mk11 for Kuai Liang called Quinzhee, which is an Athabaskan word (not sure which language specifically, theres over 40 Athabaskan languages near as I can tell, I've been combing through the dictionaries I can find and haven't come across it yet) which refers to a kind of snow shelter, which could be a interesting addition to that origin for them

Also, I need to know more about Feiyue

── WIP for a story that focuses on my Norwegian-Polish Hydro portrayal, but Njord is the god of main god of the sea in Norse Mythology. He is also associated with wind, fishing, wealth, and fertility. Now... I would like to introduce Rain being confused for Njord/or he is Njord, and was in Earthrealm in ancient times and the people of old were like "cool, yeah."

So when Rain gets a request 30 years prior to the story to bless a bloodline with hydromancy, he thinks nothing of it. Sure, why not? He doesn't know why they need it, but he's not in Earthrealm right now nor does he care what's going on, so who cares?

Anyway. So that's how Hydro gets his powers in that version– which is applied to my Freed Revenants AU.

You know what this is funnier considering I gave Sareena a Houndoom. 🤔

Bi-Han is a bit dramatic, I think. Tomas being nice to Hanzo is funny tho, because I've got it written down that Sareena found and took care of him. So Tomas is gonna tell Sareena about the nice man who ALSO has a Houndoom, and she's gonna wanna bond with Hanzo.

Bi-Han will basically have to be nice by proxy of everyone around him liking (some more than others) Hanzo.

So in hindsight Tomas rats Bi-Han out to Sareena because Kuai Liang doesn't see Hanzo as his arch nemesis.

For the Pokémon AU:
