Reasons to Witchblade (TNT):

Found Family

That’s right. Sara Pezzini, New York City police detective has a dead father and a mother that’s not really spoken about. No siblings, she’s technically got no family.

What she does have (and/or find) within the course of the series is:

Joe Siri (Kenneth Welsh), the man who took her in following the loss of her father, the man now her lieutenant/immediate superior. Joe cares about Pez deeply, but he knows her too well not to be worried, worried, worried for her. And, with the dust she’s out kicking up, also himself.

Danny Woo (Will Yun Lee), her partner, and in many ways her perfect complement. Where she’s brash, he’s considered. They are ride or die. Fans are split on the exact nature of their connection. Danny is married, with children.

Jake McCartey (David Chokachi) (we talked about him yesterday), her and Danny’s rookie trainee. Jake’s up for anything–which also means he’s up for questioning the shared conclusions his two trainers seem to arrive at so effortlessly. If there’s a screw-up in the bunch, or a misstep to be made, look to Jake. But, like a loyal dog, also look to him to support you even when he thinks your math is sketchy.

Vicky Po (Kathryn Winslow) (remind me later to be angry b/c a Google search can’t find any pictures of her as Vicky), let’s face it, we’re all worried about this Coroner. She drinks way too much.

Gabriel Bowman (John Hensley), consider him Little Brother (not that he would care for that tag), or Older Teen Next Door Neighbor. He may be an up-and-coming internet entrepreneur purveying obscure occult objects of power, he may have already made his first million (though the warehouse he hangs out in would seem to dispute this), but the Found Family knows he needs protecting at all costs–whether the self-sufficient New Yorker in him likes it or not.

Ian Nottingham (Eric Etebari), we’re on the fringe, here. Is Nottingham trying to join Pez’s Found Family? Or is he, instead, trying to bring her into Kenneth Irons’ unnatural, Forced Family?

Kenneth Irons (Anthony Cistaro), New York bajillionaire, definitely sees himself in the picture with Sara Pezzini, as she is his only available path to the power of the Witchblade (which must be wielded by a woman; at best he can only hope to wield that woman)–but there are so many pesky people in his way. 

Not to mention all those past wielders who seem, quite frankly, to want Sara Pezzini for themselves.
