We have corporate welfare but we can’t have it for the people? People with power get to have all the breaks but everybody else at the bottom are moochers, they’re lazy, don’t want to work, and are just asking for handouts? Really? That’s the spin on this? I can’t stand for that. I have to say something against it. This is about being on the right side of history and looking out for each other. This is about being good human beings.

God! My mother says I can’t escape meeting people like you. That it’s my destiny. ‘Cause if you really believe that you can take these sons of bitches out… then I have to believe, too.

From Marilyn Monroe and beyond, that’s a huge part of Hollywood, creating a persona that’s mysterious and fairly simple, though it’s interesting how that’s changing: Now, you have fans who are like, “Um, yeah, I just emailed with Barack Obama and tweeted with Lady Gaga, so I’m kinda right there with you; give it to me.” I get that people are a little allergic to celebrities using their voices, but I grew up a squatter on the Lower East Side, so it’s kind of a given that I’d have very strong opinions on everything from cyclical violence to teenage pregnancy to environmental justice.
