Hidetoshi exploring the Dark Hour...more like he WHACKS a shadow with a citation when he realizes it’s a student out after curfew...
Although, I feel like if he did end up in the dark hour, he’d definitely be overwhelmed since to lure someone to their death, there’s tricky shadows who’d definitely take advantage of his circumstances. There’s only two things that’d make him wander, though: his mother’s singing voice and his father, because one is comfort and the other is breaking the law.

Small and useless hc but: Hidetoshi HATES sour things. He will vocally shudder and whine if someone makes him eat anything of that nature. It’s a knee-jerk response to him, and even thinking about something sour immediately turns any smile into a twisted frown.

sabazio:
Was this a lecture? They hadn’t even bit into the meat of this meeting and already its beginning to grate. It is sure as an outing with Mitsuru without all the same pleasantries and grace, and ten times harder on the eyes. His half-alert scowl faded, blanching suddenly on her name. in which he had to purse his mouth to keep from showing his discontent.
Arisato’s voracious appetite proved far more detrimental to his wallet than a single meal shared with a normal peer that did not have a void in place of a stomach. The experience is another thing entirely. Out of the two, despite everything, he thinks he’d much prefer her company over this. Akihiko looks away, draping an arm across the back of his chair as the epitome of indifference.
“ No, ” he counters sharp. “ …Don’t worry about it— ” How did one convey the acute sense of paranoia without sounding like an absolute fool? Their dumplings are silently served before he can, ( piping hot, crisp and paired with a simple vinegared sauce,) and the aroma of savory sesame oil ensures he forgets his train of thought in favor. He’d whisper words of gratitude to the one already between his teeth were it pertinent, as it alone saves him from an attempt to bring her name into conversation for another couple of precious minutes.
“ You really think I have ‘ulterior motives’ for all this? ” he snorts, foregoing the added insult of an eye roll. “ You give me too much credit. You threatened me… but I was out of line.” The plate is nudged forward via held together chopsticks. “ It’s an apology, ” he assures. A modern peace offering.
A hardened stare told the other to take it or leave it; for its all he had to give. There wouldn’t be anything else from a man with so much pride to uphold, but he tries, no matter how backhanded or snide. It’s his peace for the misunderstanding; for letting things get out of hand. It was finally time to concede with grace.
So he leans forward, quashing basic etiquette with his crossed arms upon the table.
“ … So, you can stop playing that victim card already. Why would I pick a fight with someone who can’t even defend himself? There’s no honor in that. Especially over… her, ” he says as if he would not bend at the knee for anything she asked, despite finding a collar around more than just his neck.
Shinji had been right, as always. He sighs.
Akihiko had gone soft.
♚ ❝ Did I? ❞ Honestly, the two weeks that had passed him by had made his mind completely and utterly distracted, so his comment hadn’t meant to sound as dismissive as it did ; but he conceded as well -- a mere action of consequence by not wanting more...disputes. It sounded enough like himself to actually have happened -- or he might have threatened him with disciplinary action and there were just sour grapes involved... Two weeks for someone as busy as him might as well have been a year. Top it off with: academics, chores, odd jobs, that teacher still threatening him at any chance when he walked by or attended his class... A pause, a grimace at the thought, then he shook his head to throw away the very thought.
❝ If you say it’s true, then I’ll believe you. I can’t exactly recall half of our conversation, but, perhaps, that’s for the best. ❞ For better or for worse. ❝ I’ll say it here: I apologize for my mannerisms and allowing our conversation to turn into something so near violent, even if it was your side that was conducting the violence. As a member of the student council, it’s best to...avoid letting situations become that way ; had you struck me, anyway, I doubt anything would have effected you too harshly -- well, untrue. I’m sure Kaicho would have done an EXECUTION on you. ❞
Was that a proper apology?
❝ ... ❞ Irises fell down to the table, noticing the meal, then he moved his head down, bowing it to mumble his own gratitude. Chopsticks, however, were quick to remove half from his serving to give back to the other. How any human could eat NEARLY this much was beyond his understanding. Perhaps the sheer fact of the man burning enough energy for seven people helped, but it just turned his stomach to a mess -- already feeling full and nauseous by the thought! ❝ I accept your apology. ❞
❝ Ever since I came to high school, it shocked me how much changed ; she’s the first person I grew close to and who had a profound change in me. ❞ Picking up one dumpling, he stared down at it, not exactly with any emotion involved -- absentminded. How funny that she’d hardly done anything to help him ; it was really his own resolution that changed him, but he’d grown to trust her. Silence, then he put down the dumpling, still letting it cool. ❝ Let’s not fight over her again ; it was ridiculous in the first place -- who cares who or what she did for the other person? It’s no competition...er, that’s what this was about, right? ❞
Slowly the memories were returning to him, but the stress of remembering everything from so long ago had him rubbing at his forehead, until hand slid down the side of his head and rested back into his lap. ❝ You were wrong about one thing entirely that I never managed to correct ; it wasn’t about her being nice to me that made me want to stand up for her, but it was her being loyal to my cause -- rather her standing beside me through it all when nobody else would. ❞ A few stray nods, then a smile finally appeared. Coated with relief as his mind FINALLY caught itself up again, he removed his chopsticks from where he’d sat them. ❝ She’s probably done that for you, too, but...it wasn’t worth causing all of that strife ; we should have talked in private and more civilized! Something more like this setting would have been better, wouldn’t it? ❞
❝ ...well... ❞ Dumpling is removed from the plate. ❝ I’ll try to eat quickly. I’ve kept you long enough here. Nobody really does something like this for an extended period with me for enjoyment of all things! ❞

sabazio:
…And how often did Akihiko solicit one he nearly pummeled? Someone who, (one year his junior,) spat such scathing remarks that actually spurned his hand. This would certainly be the first.
Dare he admit that itch for violence within is inherent, but to actually act on it outside of that hidden hour is a rarity, caused by only a lucky, select few. He would not be done in by some pompous pig— he would not be looked down upon. Reputation, as it seems, could also be considered a form of power. This was not a truce, but diplomacy— something about ‘being the bigger man’.
When Akihiko arrives, he’s still catching his breath, making obvious he had taken the opportunity to practice his short-distance sprint all the way from the station. Gekkoukan’s crisp collar and jacket aren’t difficult to pick out from the usual crowd, but its the glare of which that draws him in instead. The same disapproving stare that bids him to fix his posture and square up his shoulders in defiance; tight-lipped and cordial. His attempts at avoiding that same astringency remain paper-thin.
“ Yo, sorry for the wait, ” he says. Taking a glance at his own wristwatch says that perhaps he had let time escape him. “ Clean-up ran over today. Some junior lost the key to storage, and— Well, anyway… I’m starving. ” That glare finally settles in and suddenly he decides excuses, no matter how legitimate, simply weren’t worth his own truancy; his role of captain be damned. With an ever-slight hesitation, he takes the seat across, folding his uniform jacket into his lap.
A hand no sooner raised calls the waiter, taking it upon himself to order for the both of them: two of his usual in extra-large, four, fresh, sequestered eggs à la carte, and a modest side of gyoza to share complete the order in its entirety. Though, perhaps he ought to have ordered at least one other side.
Now, they wait. He leans back in his chair, leaving the tea to steep.
“ You’re early… ‘Guess I shouldn’t expect anything less from the Student Council. ” How sickeningly punctual of him. It’s no wonder Mitsuru and the scowling man in front of him got along so swimmingly. It’s no wonder their leader remained cozy with all three. He suddenly frowns into his mug.
The red-eyed, pony-tailed reason for their clandestine meeting weighs far too heavy to ignore without a leg bouncing mad. Even now he looks over his shoulder, half-expecting her to walk through the doors with every chime of a new patron.
“ … Still, seems pretty eager for someone who didn’t want to come. ”
♚ ❝ Early? Was this early to you? When you arrived, you stated it was late, so I’m a bit perplexed about...what you think our meetup was. ❞ Maybe it was neither and Hidetoshi had been a bit content by the thought of that in itself ; the time frame was only after club hours, nothing more or less than that. ❝ I don’t know if you can exactly count it as late or early anyway... You didn’t exactly give a time aside from after club. So long as it wasn’t an hour prior to curfew, I’d say you were more on time than some... ❞
If he ate here, he could avoid a heaping portion for dinner tonight, thus his mother would eat more akin to a queen -- a little...sacrifice for the sake of that isn’t so bad. If he came home with a bruise upon his cheek or anything of that nature, he can always pass it off as a mere altercation with his own feet rather than some argument settled with brutality. ❝ Did I say I didn’t want to come? I believe those words never left my mouth... It’s just...shocking that you’d invite me out here when you were seconds from striking me. ❞ -- shocking that he’d invite him out in the first place for...peaceful reasons.
❝ I’ve come to terms with the fact this could end with me being harmed ; you wouldn’t be the first to have ulterior motives in mind, after all. Harming me on school grounds would cause you to have multiple strikes against you, but if you did it out of view of people, then it’s considered a darkest hour... ❞ Fingers lowered from their crossed form to take hold of the teacup before him, pulling it to his lips for a drink. This meeting, no matter what he could possibly speak about, would end in some manner of tension, so he decided it best to put down on the table what he thought up front.
Far easier than running away from the issue at hand.
Tic. teacup settled back upon the surface of the table, Hidetoshi laced his digits together and sat his chin across them. Last time they spoke, the argument had turned nearly violent, then he invited him out to eat with him, so there came no real...clear indication of his intentions -- nothing that kept him hopeful at least. It’d be as if that boy he’d blamed for the cigarette butt in the bathroom stall had invited him out. ❝ You’re the one I’d call that description ; you’re the one spending the time, the money, and the...bonding time away from your friends to come near me. Nobody except Arisato-san ever has such pure intentions when coming outside to speak with me. It’s much easier to prepare for the potential worst of every possible -- ❞
❝ -- Why are you looking over your shoulder anyway? Did you invite someone else? ❞

HEADCANON: EATING HABITS.
Due to his father’s imprisonment and mother working as their sole breadwinner, Hidetoshi tends to eat very little during his daily routine. To avoid himself becoming used to larger meals, he trained himself to ingest very little since most of his meals are prepared a week in advance by himself and for his mother. To ensure she has enough energy to keep them afloat, he often gives her pat of his own portion for her breakfast and lunch ; if questioned about why his lunches are so small, he’ll admit to it but he refutes the idea of changing it.

♚ ❝ Next Friday at Umiushi, after club. We can talk more about, well… ❞
How often did Hidetoshi take such invitations from those who nearly caused him physical harm? If he were honest, more times than he could actually count, leading to a few...times where he’d end up hospitalized by delinquent activities conducted against him ; this time felt different, however, since Mitsuru trusted this man with her very life, and, should it be the case from her perspective, then so would he trust him with his own life, until he had a case to prove otherwise. It may not be the way detectives in Japan would agree with, but the vice president defied such revolting thought processes now -- innocent until proven otherwise...
As uniform stood out among the various patrons wandering about, the student’s lips tightened as the time marched on. After club hours. That could be any time! The thought of being stood up when homework called his soul that he hadn’t finished while preparing for the student council meeting bore into his soul -- what if he waited here until curfew? Oh, wouldn’t that be rich for those who adored making remarks about him, but he’d refuse to leave until the time neared.
Tap...tap...tap... went shoe against ground, gaze flickering about...

« – hm, about that, I could always mention it to the direct individual you cite of the matter. If he’ll listen to me, that is. I admit there may be way better spaces and times for physical training, shadowboxing included, but if he doesn’t bother anyone with it, then why… ? No, you have a point. The fan club may plan something reckless about it and get hit by accident. »
♚ ❝ Exactly! He has a plethora of spectators willing to stand just mere centimeters from him, so their restless abandonment for common sense will land them in the infirmary and him in hot water! If he’d prefer to conduct these actions, then we have several locations around campus that he can complete his activity! It certainly bothers me to even consider ; he’ll have himself labeled as a brute, and I imagine his career could fall into the depths if he’s considered a violent menace! INHALES.
Sorry about my absence again! I had a really stressful situation happen that completely wore me down ; it had to do with my future career and being told that seventeen of my observation hours weren’t accounted for, which...I now have to do AGAIN. I’ll try to get myself more active here -- and Hidetoshi also is disappointed in me even though we all know he jumps to conclusions! Now that things have simmered down, I feel like I can take the mantle on him and Minazuki!
