New Walter Moers Zamonia novel arrived yesterday

It's over 600 pages with lots of great drawings

It's a Mythenmetz (Yarnspinner) novel, but since it's not the sequel to the Buchhaim books I'm looking forward to find out how it ties in.

Dear fantasy publishing companies: I am begging you, please stop comparing every single fantasy writer to J.K. Rowling.

I don't even mean it in a "her politics are horrendous and we shouldn't give her clout" way. Even devoid of everything around it, Harry Potter is a coming-of-age, Prophesized Hero story, set in a Secret Parallel Society modern time, that uses its premise to (badly, but taking itself very seriously) talk about racism, and is deeply entrenched in the conventions of the boarding school genre. It is an extremely specific kind of fantasy.

What I mean to say is, I might not have gotten very far in yet, but I'm pretty sure that this darkly comedic book about an intelligent dog who gets kidnapped by cyclopes who live on a moving island and eat people alive is, actually, very much not "equal parts J.K. Rowling" with anything else.

(Just in case it isn't clear that is a good thing, Walter Moers is amazing and I love him)

Attention tiny Zamonien fandom of tumblr:

For those of you who don't know it yet, one of the zamonien books gets a short film!!!

Its gonna be the first chapter of 'Der Schrecksenmmeister' / 'The Alchemasters apprentice' and it's a project by film students that's been in the works for the past 3 years.

There's only two trailers so far 1 & 2 and it will be shown on a few indie film festivals I think but I hope it will be avaliable online as well. It's only gonna be 15 minutes but it will be the best 15 minutes of my life!!

So go on be excited and support those fellow Zamonians and their gorgeous project!!
