win or loose and The Trans Character™️

So i just finished watching pixars new series, win or loose, and i wanted to yap a lil bit about Kai and the reports that her storyline was cut. I assume that her being trans was more outright originally and that they just dialed it back a little bit, because to me, the episode was very clearly about being transgender along with the main message of pressure from your parents to be the best. The episode starts one year before everything else in the series takes place. (btw, the show is about the same week from different perspectives, its really cool.) Kai is moving to a new town and on the way, she spots a co-ed softball team where other kids are laughing and having fun. After settling in at her grandma's place, she decides to explore the town and join them. I am assuming that Kai had very recently just came out to her dad. She says she wants to quit baseball and join the softball team, and one of her points is that its co-ed. I like how she has her hoodie on in the beginning to hide her shorter hair. when we jump back to the present, her hair is longer and she finds herself so confident with the team!!! this show has a great visual feature where every character has this sort of projection of their persona. For Kai, she starts to float and the background turns to sort of pink hues when she feels accepted. It also happens when other girls include her as one of them or when they compliment her outfit. One moment i really liked is when she looks down at her glove and traces over the letters of her name with her finger with pride. i totally feel that as a trans man!! i love seeing my name on my name tag at work. it makes me feel like my company actually cares about me, the way it makes kai feel her team cares about her. Its so refreshing to see a trans storyline where the main struggle the character is facing isnt being trans. yes, she has alot of pressure from it and one of the things her dad says that makes her feel worse is that shes not only representing herself, but the entire trans community (not outright of course, he cuts himself off). but still! the episode is more about the pressure she feels to be the best when all she wants to do is play softball and i really appreciate that!! i like the subtilty of it. shes never ostracized or heckled for being trans. she never feels left out because of it, and i love the perspective being portrayed. now of course i cant talk about this without talking about Moon Girl. Marvels Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur is one of my favorite shows. Disneys approach to their trans episode was to cut it entirely. and allegedly, if i had watched it, i would say its a fantastic episode and i also love the hands on approach to trans kids in sports. at least win or loose still HAS the episode, and i love it!!!! ty for reading my yapping <3

Hot take but miles already had his canon event when aaron died. His timeline was screwed up from the beginning because the spider wasnt supposed to bite him, so uncle aaron wasnt supposed to die, but his timeline is so different from the others that his canon event is different
