Milestone 8 - Portfolio Final Draft (V.1)
THE LAST TWO WEEKS HAVE BEEN SOME OF THE MOST STRESSED I'VE EVER BEEN!
Okay so in the last two weeks I tweaked some of the previous animations I did for this class, added a bit of music, and made a fifteen second fight scene animation over the course of a weekend (it was a bit longer than that but not much). Now usually I'm not good at showing pride in my work, the first thing I say upon receiving a compliment is usually "Ah, it's not my best work" but I've never done anything that complex before, I did it in practically zero time, and it looks great! Check it out here:

Milestone 7 - Portfolio Rough Draft
Yeah, it's getting serious in here- so this week the primary goal was to make a lot of progress on my Complex Animation and I will be honest I didn't make as much progress as I thought I would on the Complex Animation. Why is that?
Well over the last two weeks I've been revising old animations and getting storyboards together for the sake of making sure all the little work was done before tackling the big project, so I've made all the animations you've seen before even better than they were. I was also catching up on my Game Design homework, I'm like a week behind over there at least and it's been a problem. Without further ado, here's the revised animations:
youtube
and just to show that I have a plan for the complex animation, I've assembled the storyboards and audio below, but first some context: The plan for the complex animation below is to have 3D characters on top of 2D environments (to show off what 2D/VFX skills I have), but I don't actually plan on getting all of it done in the next week, that'd be insane.
I'm going to get a majority of the animations done over the next week and work on the background details on my own time, keeping the version we see in class to rough shapes and colors. Then I'll be doing the 2D/VFX work on my own time after class is over- now is this going to be a bit of an undertaking? Yes, but I have a frankly unwarranted amount of confidence, more free time than usual, and an empty schedule, so this is basically 100% of what I'm spending my free time on over the next week and a half, and I'm feeling good about my chances there.

Milestone 6
Okay I'm writing this at 4am, I have just stayed up late to finish this because exhaustion hit me hard, let's do this.
This milestone I was meant to get in a walk cycle animation with my custom model and finish a dance animation with one of the pre-made models. I am happy to report I did both, despite the fact that my mental health these last few weeks was so bad that I was physically incapable of doing my laundry. Here's that dance animation I mentioned:
There's a vague story here, a soldier on patrol was briefly subjected to an odd psychic phenomina that caused spontaneous dancing. The dance depicted? The charleston! or at least my own little modified version. This is one of the most complex animations I've made so far and I only have my sights set higher, though I do wish I had been in a better state so I could have more time to touch it up.
oh shoot I can only post one video per post, well my previous art post was my Digitigrade Walk Cycle, which was weird to work on- I had a lot of issues figuring out how the robot character should move despite my research. Turns out, there are not many digitigrade bipeds to use as reference, and almost none I could go visit so I can see the movement in three dimensions. I have been thinking about going to some kind of furry meetup either IRL or in VRChat to see if anyone happens to have fancy legs I could record them using.
Anyway, that's it for this week!

The last version of my guide is 2 years old, and doesn't account for some new features, new competition, and some rebrands, so once again;
Here's a purchase guide for when RPG Maker is on sale, as well as the Visual Novel makers available.

Milestone 5: Chill Week
I'll be honest, I didn't get much done between the previous milestone and this one. I've been going in for mental health diagnostic appointments and working out some financial stuff and it's been exhausting. In light of all that, I took advantage of the breathing room I gave myself during the previous milestone to just relax a bit.
During this milestone I was supposed to complete the rigging process on my original character and begin animating the pre-made character I have dancing. I already completed the rigging process during the previous Milestone, so I spent most of my work time on the Dance animation, doing the pre-production work that is half the battle. I spent a lot of time studying my dance of choice, The Charleston, and finding adequate reference and accompanying music.
I haven't started the animation proper yet, but I don't think it'll take too long, the Charleston is a fairly simple dance and I tend to be a pretty quick animator. The below video is the reference material, with the black segment being the character walking onto the scene before starting the dance.
Now I know it's a bit of a silly dance, I got the video from a 'teaching kids to dance' video because it was the best head-on reference for the footwork. My plan is to deviate slightly from the reference material by making the character do some more structured movement with their arms as seen in the following video.

I'm thinking the slightly more march-y movements around 35-45sec in. That's about all I have for this milestone, I'll see y'all again in two weeks!

Milestone 4
Okay! So, this will be my first Tumblr post on the subject so let me give a quick rundown, I'm an Animation Student currently working on a largely self-guided class where all of the students have created their own schedule and assignments (I know, pretty cool). I'm hoping to go into game animation, so my schedule is very animation oriented, with a mix of creating and animating my own original character and working with pre-made characters.
All that said, here's a quick screenie of my schedule so far (with the stuff I've completed crossed out):
It's a touch small so I'll clarify, this milestone I was supposed to have finished up a walkcycle animation with a pre-made character and starting the Rig & Bind on my original character (Which I would finish next milestone). I am happy to report that I have gone ABOVE AND BEYOND THOSE EXPECTATIONS!!
This is my original character Fully rigged a week early with a neat extra feature, renderable controls! I don't know exactly what I'll do with renderable controls, but it's certainly a fun look. I even had some extra time to tweak the material settings to look a bit less realistic- yes you read that correctly. I'm going for a more cartoony style, so I made the metal materials reflective without being shiny to give it a kind of digital art look, if that makes any sense.
This is a little bit of a beauty render to show off some of the facial controls, which is also my profile picture for this account!
In addition, I put together this quick walkcycle animation with a pre-made model which I'm also pretty proud of! It's not perfect, I had some issues getting used to the rig, but I definitely put together something neat here.

Working on some stuff for class, I figured out how to make rendered controls! I actually really like how these look so I'll probably be posting a lot of stuff with rendered controls like these
