Canary in a Coal Mine is a reference to bringing, well, canaries into coal mines, because they would sing, chirp, whatever— but since their lungs are more sensitive to the particles and natural gases, they die before their human counter parts to essentially Warn of toxic gas that could kill them

yea the whole c!jimmy canary hc is that he dies so quickly in every smp he’s in (first to perma die in 3L/LL, surviving only 4 days in his hardcore world) but ALSO it’s that right AFTER he dies things in smp’s begin to fall apart. An addition to that being that he’s inadvertently caused the apocalypse on empires (TWICE, for the record), and that NOW— he’s joined a hardcore server and minutes later grian died.

its basically c!jimmy being like either the first person to die, which like a canary means the server is about to Heat Up, or he lives and by proxy causes the death of other players by unintentional means (functioning more like an Omen)
