Dean […] is grumpy and slow to wake up, stretching and creaking and rubbing his eyes with the back of his hands, a waking-up gesture that is so compulsive, so who he is, that it shows up repeatedly, and it makes him look either like he is 6-years-old or, well, like an odalisque.

Rubbing your eyes with the heel of your palms is what cowboys and gunslingers do. A tough gesture, you don’t care if you get a little grime in your eyes if you’re a tough guy. Cliche, but true. I have a hard time imagining Clint Eastwood rubbing his eyes with the backs of his hands. It looks like a child-like “boo-boo” type of gesture. It’s palms-facing-out, which is vulnerable. Look for it from Ackles. It shows up repeatedly. It’s one of those gestures that beautifully undercuts the sincerely tough and bossy and aggressive persona of Dean Winchester.

I wanna hire an evil advisor so bad. I want to pay some gay-coded little man to creep around my house saying ominous things and smirking to himself and punctuating every sentence with an evil little laugh while I pretend to be totally oblivious. I’m a soldier” and then by 11x04 dean is able to just casually be like “[that saying] isn’t even in the bible” which not only is this such a good example of dean being well read and having a great memory for what he’s consumed, JUST IMAGINE dean finally accepting that angels are real and poring over the bible several times over, verse by verse, trying to understand this thing that pulled him out of hell and what it’s all about, and then trying to fathom why this self-professed biblical soldier would give a damn about him, why after all these stories, proverbs, devils, messiahs, why this warrior chose him… I am Thinking…
