hi do you know any books set in like a fairytale/fantasy world with like lesbian princesses or f/f relationships?? I need more sapphic books lmao
hello! hi! YOU BET I DO
there are unfortunately not nearly enough lesbian princess books (me and @wordmage-girl tried to get a wlw royalty list going here and it didn’t get very far) but here’s what i got for wlw in fairytales and fantasy:
Of Fire and Stars by Audrey Coulthurst — princess engaged to the prince of a neighboring land falls for his sister, romance and angst ensue. LOVE this one!
The Second Mango by Shira Glassman — a lonely newly-crowned queen goes on a dragon-riding road trip with her bodyguard to find a girlfriend (a girlfriend is, of course, obtained)
Robins in the Night by Dajo Jago — a robin hood retelling focusing on marian (and lots of snails. what are the snails doing)
Once by Julia Heslin — a wannabe fairtytale beast kidnaps a young woman, forcing her girlfriend to step into the role of brave knight to rescue her
Labyrinth Lost by Zoraida Cordova — a girl trying to banish her magical powers accidentally banishes her family instead, must go on a journey to save them (bisexual love triangle)
Unburied Fables by Tiffany Rose — an anthology of short fairytale retellings, various lgbt+ characters (not all of them wlw)
and also there’s a bunch i know of and still need to read that i’ll list!
Ash and Huntress by Malinda Lo
The Raven and the Reindeer by T. Kingfisher
The Shewstone by Jane Fletcher
Marian by  Ella Lyons
hope there’s some good ones in there for you!

Virus - Chapter Two (Part Two)
ome hundred years ago, a virus wiped out most of the Earth’s population.  Thanks to the tireless work of British scientists, a vaccine was developed - but unfortunately it was too late for most of the world.  Surviving refugees fled to Britain, where they were given vaccines and a new start.  This new influx of foreigners, and the needs of the existing citizens, proved to be a turning point in history.  A new wave of the Virus made short work of the government, and the Willows Institute of Science was appointed the leaders of this small nation, and they fled underground for safety.  Now, a new generation of scientists try and find a permanent cure to the ever present Virus.   Sounds simple enough, if it weren’t for the fact that the noble families are staging a coup for power and the Sun and the Moon had just fallen to Earth.
Chapter Two Part One
Abbie
“I’m late I’m late I’m soooooo fudging late!”
This was the mantra that Abbie chanted as she raced through the maze of corridors, trying desperately to finger-comb her hair as she ran.  It wasn’t fair, she had tried so hard – set her alarm for six and everything – but somehow she had still managed to oversleep and now it was five past seven and she was so so late…
“Excuse me Miss?  Are you one of the new J.S’s?” Abbie skidded to an abrupt halt, slamming into the wall on her left.  In front of her stood a bemused man, with light brown hair cut just short of his eyes, and grey eyes that somehow seemed both kind and shrewd.  He was wearing a lab coat like her, and the ID badge pinned to his coat pocket read Bradley Matthews, L.T.  That meant he was a lab technician, one of the people who set-up and fixed the delicate lab equipment.  More importantly, it meant that she was on the wrong floor.
Gosh, this building was confusing.
“Miss?” The man was still staring at her, with amusement evident in his face.  She must look an absolute mess, hair flying everywhere and flushed red with exertion. “Um, yeah, I –uh.”  For flip’s sake, what was the name of the room she was supposed to be in?  The man raised an eyebrow.  That was it! “Laboratory seven, floor two?”  She finally gasped out breathlessly.
The man burst into laughter.
Abbie felt her cheeks flame scarlet, what had she said?  Was she really that out of breath?  Why was he laughing?  Had she - “You’re on Lower Floor One love.  How’d you even get this lost?” Matthew’s voice was full of humour, but it wasn’t cruel like she’d feared.  He just genuinely found it funny that she’d managed to go in the complete opposite direction that she was looking for.
Come to think of it, how had she managed to go down the stairs instead of up them?
Abbie checked her watch, shaking her head at her own stupidity.  Dammit, she was fifteen minutes late. “Back down the hall, two rights and then straight up the stairs.”  Bradley Matthews helpfully supplied. “Thank you!”  Abbie called out as she took off again. “Other right love!” “Thank you!”
By the time Abbie sheepishly edged into Laboratory seven, she was almost twenty minutes late.  Her hopes of sneaking in quietly were dashed the minute the head of floor halted all activity in the lab.  She swallowed nervously.  Everyone in the lab was staring at her, nine identical expressions of ‘wow I’m so sorry for her but damn this is hilarious and I’m glad it’s not me. And one expression of exasperated love. Sorry Jack, but she had tried.
“Dr Taylor.” “Professor Williams.” Her voice shook slightly under the icy glare of the older woman.  Against her will her cheeks flushed, and she wished for what was probably about the millionth time she didn’t blush so easily.  The embarrassment of that made her blush even more – talk about a vicious cycle. “Would you like to explain to your colleagues why you are twenty minutes late to work?” Professor Williams’ sharp crisp voice broke through her thoughts.  This was so not how she had planned her first ever day of work to go.  She been thinking more along the lines of quietly working away in the background, not public humiliation. “I-I got, um lost Professor.  I’m sorry.” “Did you not think to get here early in case of such incidents?” Abbie stayed silent.  There wasn’t really anything to say really, she had no excuse. She dropped her head to stare at her shoes.  They were brand new, black canvas dabs bought especially for work.  Her vision was blurred with unshed tears.  Please don’t cry please don’t cry please don’t not in front of everyone.
Professor Williams gaze was scrutinising.  She was an intimidating women, the head of floor two. She was tall, with close cropped black hair and rich copper skin, and full features currently set into a stern frown. Although she was an older woman, she was still handsome, in a ‘cross me and I’ll make you suffer eternally’ kind of way. But then her face softened, and she gestured to the table that Jack was standing by.   “Set up your work.  You’ve missed introductions, so meet people on your own time. We’re analysing how the Virus affect different blood types.  The samples are in the box on the front desk – do be careful with them or we’ll get a bollocksing off of the data collectors.”
That was it.  Professor Williams went back to surveying the lab. No instruction really, just “get on with it”.  Abbie felt a flash of insecurity – was she really ready for this responsibility? But then it passed.  This is what she’d been working towards her entire life, she had this.
Abbie quickly collected her blood and Virus samples, and carried them over carefully to the table Jack was working at.  No stools. “You okay Abs?”  Jack whispered.  Not that he had to, the room was abuzz with chatter, well, it was now the attention wasn’t on her.  Across the room Matty Mayflower was singing, as usual. “I’m fine” She smiled at him reassuringly, although she was certain she didn’t look it.  She was still shaking slightly anyway as the adrenalin started to fade. Jack said nothing, but leant in to gently bump her shoulder with his, a small gesture which sent a happy warmth through her.  He didn’t need words to comfort her anymore.
The next few hours passed in a blur, an endless cycle of adding a sample of the Virus to the blood sample, noting down any reactions, and repeating with different quantities.  It was repetitive, but interesting.  She’d wondered before whether different blood types offered different levels of immunity against the Virus, and there was actually a small difference in reactions.  Not much, but enough to make Abbie wonder.  For instance whilst there was no visible reaction in Type A or Type O, apart from the slow break down of leukocytes, the Type B blood seemed to break down a little faster, whilst Type AB has the fastest degeneration of hematocrits. It wasn’t a lot, and nothing that previous generations hadn’t already studied (although a fresh pair of eyes is always less blind), but it inspired Abbie.  If AB was the most badly affected, could Type A have some kind of immunity in the antigens?  And how could rH factor affect it?
Lost in a swirling spiral of ideas, Abbie barely noticed the first explosion. It wasn’t until the second one that Abbie looked up from her work, table vibrating from the aftershock.  Somewhere in the room Yasmin shrieked, and Matty’s singing finally ceased. “Out!  Everyone out!” Yelled Professor Williams, shepherding them out the door.  Jack grabbed her hand and pulled her away from the work station, and out into the corridor which was now crammed with people, all swarming towards the basement stairs.   “What the hell is going on?”  Abbie screamed into his ear.   “Language!  And I have no idea!” Jack yelled in return. “Sorry!” She wasn’t, and it was said with an eye roll. A girl slammed into the back of Abbie, and grabbed onto her left arm.  For a second she panicked, but then Abbie recognised the wild, dirty blonde curls. “Cathy!  Are you okay?” “Not really no!” Cathy was a pale girl with clear, arresting blue eyes framed by thick glasses.  Usually she has a tired, slightly grumpy attitude from all the late night studying this job required, but right now she was alert and serious, face tight with fear.   “It’s the nobleborns!” “The what?” Abbie shouted back.  It was almost impossible to hear anything in the rush, everybody was pushing and shoving and calling out to each other, and at some point an alarm had started wailing, an incessant pulse of noise. “The nobleborns!  I’ve heard rumours that they’re trying to destroy the Willows Intitutions – this must be one of their attacks!”  Before Cathy could explain more, she was pulled away from Abbie by the tide of people. Abbie gripped Jack’s hand tighter, determined not to be separated from him.  He squeezed her palm, silently letting her know he had her. This was bad.  If Cathy was right, then the country could be in serious trouble.
The nobleborns was the common term for those who were born into the old families, the families who used to hold a lot of power simply for being rich.  Nowadays it was the Willows Institute of Science that governed the country, but if the nobleborns were trying to stage a coup… Well it wouldn’t be pretty.
A third explosion rocked the building, causing Abbie to stumble into her boyfriend.  Jack pulled her in front of him and wrapped an arm around her, keeping her close as they half ran half were dragged through the hallways.  As they reached the little alcove that housed the staircases, they were forced to wait as the mass of scientists flooded down from floors above and filled up the entire space.  The air stank of sweat and fear, and Abbie could feel herself starting to choke on the close quarters they were crammed into, her chest tight and her breathing coming in short, shallow gasps.  To distract herself, she started thinking.
Thinking about things logically was how Abbie coped with stressful situations.  The rare occasions when her parents fought, she would sit in her room memorising the periodic table.  Before an exam she would calculate the exact probability of failure based on previous scores, number of students and hours of revision.  Now, Abbie started working out where the bombs must be going off. The sounds seemed to be coming from below her, on the ground floor, but they were still to faint to be directly underneath her.  It sounded and felt more like they were somewhere towards the west side of the building.  Simple enough to work out.  Next: Why were the bombs being set off there? Well if it really was the nobleborns – and she very much doubted that they’d ever be able to prove that – then they’d be aiming for something which would weaken the power, a vulnerability in security. Wait…how had they gotten past security?
There was a tall electrified fence around the perimeter of the DoVC, and there were three different types off identity checks to get through before you could even reach the building, never mins get bombs in.  In fact, the only way you possibly could sneak anything in would be –
Would be through the delivery bay.   Now, the delivery bay had its own security checks but of course nothing was infallible.  It was plausible that somehow the bomber had commandeered a van that was delivering supplies and data samples and used it to infiltrate the site. After that, they’d be able to gain limited access to the drop off zone, which was on the west side of the building. But the explosions were getting closer each time, which meant that the bombers must be moving through the building – no, no the explosions were too big to be set off manually, as it was the rooms they were planted in must have been seriously damaged, if not destroyed there was no way anyone could survive that.
Oh God. How many people had died today already?
Stop it Abbie, think!  If the bombs had been planted and then set off remotely, that means that they must have had inside help, which means there is no garuntee that the explosions will stay contained to the west side of the building.  Their ultimate aim will be to reach floor five, where Professor Richardson’s offices are.
But why would they lead a trail of bombs?  Surely that would warn everyone to evacuate?  Unless…
“Jack! We have to get everyone out of here!”  Abbie was already turning as she screamed it, forcing her way back through the tide of people.   “Abs?  Where are you going?  It’s not safe!” Abbie turned to look Jack directly in the eyes. He had to listen to her, he had to. She couldn’t…if she lost him… She took a steadying breath and said, “There is a bomb primed to go off in the lower floors.  Where everybody is evacuating to, and where it will cause the most panic.” Although she had said it calmly, Jack immediately understood the severity of what she was saying.  But he also shook his head. “We can’t do anything Abbie.  We can stay up here, but we can’t stop everyone.  Who knows how many people are already down there.” “I know!” Abbie was close to tears again for the second time that day, but this time it was out of frustration.  She pushed away from Jack, and started shoving her way back down the corridor towards lab seven, earning herself more than a few curses and shoves back.  Luckily everyone from floor two was either in this corridor or already on the stairs, so she didn’t have to contend with the force of oncoming people for too long, just until she rounded the corridor.  Where Jack grabbed her arm and spun her around to face him. His normally amiable expression had darkened to one of anger, and his face was drained of blood.   “Abbie!  What are you doing?”  He hissed. “We need to get to safety!” “Jack!  Listen to me!  It’s not safe down there!”  Abbie was desperate now, desperate to get him to listen to her, but also suddenly doubtful. Surely the basement was going to be guarded against such things?  What if they really should just go with the others…
Suddenly there was the sound of running feet from the other end of the hallway.  A girl shot around the corner and collided with Jack, sending them both sprawling to the ground.  The girl had long, tumbling hair, almost blue it was so black, and it contrasted sharply with the deathly pale tone of her skin.   “Jack?  Are you okay?”  Abbie asked automatically, then reached down to help the girl to her feet.  She stared; this girl should not be here.
She was barefoot, and wearing a silvery dress that seemed to float and shimmer around her.  Her eyes were silver too, large and round and reflective.  She obviously wasn’t a scientist, or any kind of staff.  She was wearing a gold ring on her left hand, with a shining opal set in the centre of it, and it didn’t look cheap.  Could this girl be one of the bombers?  Abbie started to back away in fear, as Jack edged around the stranger to stand next to Abbie.  She relaxed slightly as he reached her, but she was still wary of the situation.   The girl didn’t seem too bothered by this. If anything, she seemed irritated. “Who are you?”  Jack asked cautiously.   “I’m the – I’m…um…Luna.” Well that didn’t sound suspicious at all. It must have shown on Abbie’s face, because the girl – Luna – scowled.   “I’m telling the truth!” “Okay, okay, we believe you.”  Jack soothed, and held out his hands in a placating manner.  If anything this only infuriated her more.   “Stop it!” Abbie stepped forward quickly, putting herself in between her boyfriend and this strange girl. “Hi, Luna.  It’s not really safe to be here right now – “ As she spoke it a fourth explosion shook the building.  It was much closer than before.  “- So we need to move, alright?” The girl frowned then.   “Are the booms not meant to happen then?” Jack looked at her as if she was crazy. “No!  Of course not!” “Oh.  What about the girls with the knives on the ground floor?” “ No they’re no – wait what girls with knives?” Luna shrugged dismissively.   “I don’t know, but they chased me so I ran up here to escape.” “They chased you?”  Abbie shook her head.  “Luna I don’t think – “
“Well that’s a shame, because I’m pretty sure that’s what they pay you for.” A snide voice cut through the air, and Abbie looked past Luna to see exactly what she didn’t want to see.
Three girls – yup, with knives.   Oh crap. Sorry Jack – Oh crud.
Hi again! Did this have action?  I promised you action.  I also spent a good hour and a half researching viruses and scieney stuff sorry to all the actual scientists i’ve offended I have no idea what I’m even talking about - although I do understand more about blood types now.  But someone seriously needs to explain to me how Type AB can even exist like...don’t they cancel out???

Chapter One
Abbie
The most satisfying part of Abbie’s day was the fact that she wasn’t late. She’d spent the three weeks running up to the ceremony hoping against hope that just this once she would not be late.
So yeah, whilst receiving the Certificate of Approval to thunderous applause was nice, and officially graduating to junior scientist was pretty alright, the real highlight was definitely arriving at the designated meeting place a whole minute early. Take that Jack.
As if hearing her thoughts, her boyfriend gently squeezed her hand.  They’d been together, well, for what felt like forever.  At first friends in primary school, when Abbie would help Jack study for his Advanced Science entrance exam, and  then high school when he would help her sneak into the chem lab to perform out of hours experiments, and then eventually their biology minors and majors, when they finally started dating. And now they were starting their placements as junior scientists at the Willows Institute of Science together. Abbie met Jack’s eyes with a grin.  Like her, he was practically radiating pride and happiness, his brown eyes sparkling with excitement.
They’d done it.  They’d actually done it!  Thirteen years of studying and exams and now they were finally here, fully qualified scientists, the country’ most cherished commodity.
This year’s class was the biggest in years, with a whole fifteen graduates from the Willows Institute of Education.  Not very many people made it to this stage, most buckled under the pressure of exams, or simply weren’t up to the demands of science.  But very few opted out willingly, not in this society. It was every child’s dream to grow up and work for the Willows Institute of Science – the Department of Plague Control in particular.  Everybody dreams of growing up and finding the cure, but hardly anyone ever gets the chance.  Some failed the Advanced Science Entrance Exam, and were forced to seek jobs in the Bay, as city caretakers.  Most went on after the usual five years of Advanced Science to specialise in medicine or teaching, or the skipped major and minor courses and went straight into the general workforce, seeing jobs in retail or Public Services.  Those who remained completed at least one major in a science (or in Abbie’s case, a major in all three), and took a position in one of the lower departments.
But not Abbie.  No, Abbie had made it, all the way to the coveted position of Junior Scientist of the Department of Plague Control, and more than that, she had her best friend in all the world at her side.
As Louise Allen, one of the other graduates, starts to lead them all off stage, Abbie quickly scrambled to get to her correct place in line.  Jack rolled his eyes at her, and subtly nudged her in the right direction. She grinned at him sheepishly, and fell into place.  Honestly, she was such a scatter-brain.  She’d completely forgotten that the graduates were supposed to line up in alphabetical order. Walking smartly in between Kaoru Suoh and Alice Woods, Abbie scanned the crowd for her parents.  She didn’t have to look far, Frank and Sophia Taylor were seated front row, dead centre, beaming proudly up at her.  Her mother’s pale blue eyes were shining with unshed tears, and her cheeks were flushed, which in turn made Abbie blush red with pride.  All she ad ever wanted to do was to follow in her mother’s footsteps and make her proud.  Her father too, as he gripped his wife’s hand and tried not to look too overcome with emotion.
Oh God, she was going to start crying if the kept that up.
After carefully making her way off stage, Abbie went straight to her hug her adoring parents.  Her mum held her briefly, but tightly. “I’m so proud of you, my baby girl.”  She whispered in Abbie’s ear.  “I love you Abbie.” “I love you too mum.”  She whispered back, before following Jack when he gently tugged her over to sit on the graduates bench by the stage.  Professor Richardson was stood on stage, preparing to give the official speech.
“Ladies and gentlemen.” Silence quickly fell over the hall. Everybody listened intently in anticipation for the Chief of Science’s words. “I would first, of course, like to congratulate all of our young graduates for getting to this stage.  They are indeed a credit to themselves and to this fine country, and of course the education system. Of course a special mention must be made to the following pupils, who have not only achieved Junior Scientist status, but have made it into the esteemed Department of Plague Control.  Those pupils are as follows; Yasmin Baybus, Cerys Cole, Ryan Cook, Jack Gibbons, Finn Lucus, Matilda Mayflower, and Abigail Taylor.” Professor Richardson paused to allow for the burst of applause, smiling formally.  To Abbie, he didn’t look particularly invested in what he was saying, but hey ho.  Who cared if the bloody Prime Minister was bored, she was a freaking Junior Scientist!
After a minute of clapping, Professor Richardson cleared his throat.   “Now, as you all know, today is the day on which we remember our past, and our reason for pushing our young people to pursue this noble field.  For we do not research tirelessly for days on end without cause, as we well know.” Here Professor Richardson inclined his head towards Abbie’s mother in the row behind.  Sophia Taylor had been the youngest ever graduate to the WIoS, and was one of the head scientists at the DPC.  She had told Abbie the story every night before she went to sleep, so Abbie knew the Professor’s next words almost off by heart.
“Long ago, in the times when humans lived on the surface of the Earth, we were numerous and plenty. Reports indicate there may have been as many as nine billion of us on the planet.   “But then Virus struck.  A terrible plague which wiped out most of humanity, felling almost seventy percent of us in a matter of weeks.  Luckily, one brave British Scientist, Professor Willow, discovered a way to guard against Virus.  Using herself as her first human test subject, she proved the effectiveness of her vaccine, and inoculated as many British citizens as she could. Unfortunately it was too late for most of the population, but those who had survived travelled by any means possible to our small island, seeing it as an oasis in a desert of disease.  We shared our resources, sheltered them, and saved those we could, but soon, another problem arose.  You see, we were a small nation, not designed for the millions of refugees we now had to house.  Our government struggled to cope, and soon collapsed.  Shortly after, a new strain of Virus spread through the country, infecting many who had been previously thought of as protected.  Where there had once been millions, there were now hundreds. Extinction was certain.  But then, once again the legendary Professor Willow stepped up.  She invented a new, stronger vaccine, and relocated those she could to this city, formerly known as Cardiff.  She built a new home underground, away from the Virus-ridden air that even now still lingers above us.  She built us a shelter, a place where we could live safely.  She built our many Institutes, of Science, and Medicine, and Education.  She built a legacy, which we honour to this day!  We, small in number though we are, are dedicated to our cause: to find the cure to Virus!”
“To find the cure to Virus!”  The hall echoed back dutifully, the young voices eager and excited.  And no one was more excited than Abbie.   Because unlike everyone else here, she knew that who was going to be the one to find the cure.   Abbie Taylor, that’s who.
Hi guys!  Okay so this chapter is going to be release in two parts, because it’s going to be really long and I decided that having it all in one would be very tough going, especially on tumblr.  Also I hope this makes sense, this is supposed to be the explainy part of the story, before more action happens.  Action will be happening in part two by the way, where we’ll also see a reappearance of Josie and the others as well.  Hopefulyl things will start to actually - you know - not be bloody confusing.  Also shout out to two people who may have noticed there names in this, you guys rock xx

thank you !!
Whatever you do, do not think about Tohru and Kyou spending their first holiday together.
Do not think about them with a baby, teaching it how to be happy and to love, and to never want for anything.
Don’t think about Yuki visiting them, and him and Kyou actually getting along, for the sake of Tohru getting some well deserved rest.
Do no think about Yuki and Kyou trying to cook dinner as a surprise, and completely destroying it, but then Shishou comes and fixes everything after a desperate plea for help.
Don’t think about how happy they all must be, now Tohru’s in their lives.

Virus - Chapter One
Some hundred years ago, a virus wiped out most of the Earth’s population.
Prologue
Josie
“Well would you look at what we have here girls.  Seems like someone’s come to pay us a visit.” At the sound of the sneering voice of Margo Mathieu, the girl that had previously been lying unconscious on their front lawn slowly raised her head.  She blearily opened her eyes, and even Josie could not supress a gasp of shock; she could hear Ryley mumbling curses and next to her Kim’s jaw dropped. The reason was this was that the mysterious girl’s eyes shone gold, the brightness and luminosity of fire.  They lit up the pitch black darkness of the night better than the lanterns that Ryley and Clarke carried, as if she had her own pair of lanterns as eyes.  But even as Josie watched, the blinding glow was diminishing, and within seconds the solid light had shrunk to reveal pale yellow irises, an abnormal colour sure, but apart from that there was no notable difference between them and Kim’s. Margot’s own eyes narrowed.   “How did you do that?  Who are you?”  Her voice was not patronisingly cheerful as it had been before.  Now it was cold and hard.  Josie knew from experience that that tone meant one thing.  And it would not be pleasant.
The girl gazed up at the group of girls above her, clearly troubled.  Then she said, in a soft, quiet voice, “I am the Sun.” Silence. Then Ryley started to laugh, her chestnut curls bobbing as she shook her head. “The Sun?  C’mon, there is no way this scrawny girl is trying to pass herself off as the sun!” Privately Josie agreed.  Honestly the ignorance of the public these days was astounding – the sun was a flaming ball of gas 149.6 million kilometres away, not some human with glowing eyes.  She was clearly some Bay girl trying to get in with Margo by making absurd claims.
Margot’s glare could have frozen hell itself – if such an absurd concept existed.  Kim stiffened, and whispered to Josie, “She hasn’t got the Virus has she?” Kim’s eyes were large and worried. Knowing her, it was probably concern for the girl rather than herself.  Typical. But even so Josie found herself reassuring her rather than rolling her eyes.  Kim had that effect on people, you just wanted to protect her. “No Kim.  She’s clean.  Deluded yes, but not from the Virus.  She hasn’t got a rash or any other symptoms and they always come first.”  Josie didn’t bother to lower her voice.  Better to make it clear that this girl was not ill, she was just a liar – or insane.
Margot made a slight gesture, and Clarke stepped forward, her lantern casting flickering, elongated shadows across the artificial lawn of the Mathieu estate.  Clarke’s imposing figure towered above the girl, who shrank back. Sun or not, the girl clearly understood a threat when she saw one. “I’m going to ask you this only once, and if you don’t answer then I get to have a little fun.”  Clarke’s smile spread across her face, teeth bared.  “Who are you?  Where did you come from?  Why are you here?” Josie cringed internally.  Clarke’s brutish threat were really so unsophisticated.  She should really extend her vocabulary to, say, more than three words.
However, crudely worded or not, her threats got the desired result.  The girl cowered, shrinking away from the thuggish girl.  Unsteadily, she repeated herself. “I – I told you.  I am the Sun.  From – From the sky.  The Moon and I, well, we fell to Earth, and I – well she’s vanished and I need to find her…” She trailed off.  Margot’s expression was murderous.  Clarke shot her an asking glance, and Margot nodded. Clarke flexed her arm, fingers curling into a fist.  Kim turned her face away, and Ryley sighed loudly.  This was going to end in bloodshed.   “Please...”  The girls’ voice was faltering, and Clarke gave another unsettling grin.  She loved it when her victims pleaded for mercy.   “Have you seen her?  I just want to know she is okay!”   Josie stared.  That was not the desperate plea she had been expecting.
“Wait.”  Josie placed a hand on Clarke’s arm, still drawn back for the first punch. “Clarke, stop.  Josie?  Have you something to add?”  Margot’s voice had lost the cold edge and was now more curious than anything.  Clarke gritted her teeth, but lowered her fist. It had always irked her that although she was second-in-command, Margot valued Josie’s opinion far more than Clarke’s. Kim tugged on her sleeve.   “Do you believe her Jose?”  She asked softly, peering into Josie’s face intently. Josie coughed and stepped away slightly. It always unnerved her when Kim stared at her like that, as if she could tell exactly how she was thinking, and feeling.
Josie ignored the waiting stares of the other girls, and crouched down so she was at face level with the girl.  Of course this did put her in the undesirable position of being at Clarke’s feet, but the bigger girl wouldn’t dare challenge her, and especially not in front of Margot. The girl on the ground swallowed, but held Josie’s searching gaze.  She respected that.  The girl seemed less afraid of her than Clarke, which is what, in the end, finally convinced her.
Everyone knows Josie was the bigger threat.
Josie stood, and turned to face the four girls behind her. “She’s telling the truth.”  She paused, trying to think of a way to phrase this that didn’t make her sound as crazy as sun-girl over there.  “Or at least she thinks she is.  I might not have Lil’s gift for spotting a lie, but t’s completely illogical for her to tell such an insane tale, and to your face.”  She shifted to face Margot directly.  “Get Lil and Ryley to question her further.  She’s almost certainly delusional, she has a large lump on her head but we can still use her.  That dress she’s wearing didn’t come cheap, nor did that ring.”   Josie gestured at the girl who, at her words, automatically closed her right hand over the ring on her left.  Her eyes had gone large and her already pale skin had lost what little colour it had had.  It was a shame really, that the girl had chosen to look for her friend at the Mathieu estate of all places, but Josie pushed aside the little bubble of sympathy.  She didn’t have a use for emotion, not in this life.  The ring she was wearing looked like solid silver, with what looked like a topaz set in the centre.  The dress was probably expensive too, she couldn’t identify the fabric, it seemed to shift and move under the dim lamp-light, but it was a deep golden colour and looked like something a princess might wear.
Well, it looked like something Ryley would wear, and she always dressed to impress.
Josie took a breath and continued, facing Margot again so she did not have to look at the girl’s eyes as she said, “She’s either a thief or a friend of nobility. Her friend too, the one she came here looking for.  Either way, we can either collect a ransom if she’s missed, sell her things if she’s not. If we announce our find, her friend may come forward and then we’ll have both of them.”
Margot nodded slowly, then clapped her hands together decisively.   “Right.  Clarke, take Sunshine here into the guest room please.  You know the one.  The rest of you, do not breathe a word of this until we know how we’re dealing with her.  If she really is rich – and I really rather doubt that – we do not want her family to know we were planning o doing anything but returning her safely, understood?” Josie and the others nodded, oh they all understood perfectly.  This secret would be kept, just like all the others were.
Clarke bent down and slung the terrified girl over her left shoulder with shockingly minimal effort, and proceeded to follow Margot, who was already striding briskly up the path to the house.  Josie neatly sidestepped Clarke as she barged past her and began walking too, resisting the urge to scowl.  How a brute like her thought she was indispensable Josie would never know.  Instead she slowed slightly to allow Kim to catch up with her. Not that she would ever admit it, but the small girl had a calming effect on her.  She needed calm after dealing with Clarke.
“Josie?  Ya really think a thief would dare come to Mathieu? To Margot’s own front door?  Aint that just asking for trouble?” Ryley’s lilting tones echoed in the empty night, ridiculously loud in the near silence. “Why not?  Josie did.”  Clarke replied sweetly.  Suddenly not even Kim could make her want to refrain from punching her. “Now now, my girlies.  Let’s not bicker in front of our guest.”   The words were upbeat, but the threat was obvious, especially considering the fact that their ‘guest’ was currently thrown over Clarke’s shoulder like a sack of struggling potatoes.
Silently now, the five girls continued on, to the looming mansion that was the pride of the Mathieu estate. Struggle all you want, sun-girl. Josie thought grimly.  No one escapes Margot.
So, Ch.1 is up at last.  I decided to wait a while in between chapter and prologue, but hopefully now they’ll be up every Sunday. Please please send me questions or feedback, I’m trying my best but I know I can improve.  I hope you enjoy or are at least interested in this, I have big plans for this,  Oh, and the perspective will change frequently, so make sure to double check at the top!
