Just occurred to me that during the Revelation Scene, Neil says "you like me" instead of "you're attracted to me" and I'm wondering if it's because in his lil demisexual brain, the only way he could reasonably articulate his understanding of the situation wasn't "you wanna fuck me" but instead "you enjoy my existence" because "blowjob" held very little value or interest to him but "positive regard" absolutely did and I just-

I love aftg because you can put together any number of characters under a microscope and find all sorts of parallels and perpendiculars, but I always come back to Riko and Neil as foils.

01 and 10. Two sides of the same coin.

Riko, the boy who was put in the spotlight desperate to be seen, to be recognized; and Neil, the boy who had to be hidden to survive when he wanted to simply live.

Two boys born to powerful men from violent families who’d inherit very little of that power.

Riko pulls whatever he can to become as cruel as the world he grew up in. He keeps the cycle of violence churning because he wants to be apart of it, wants to belong, no matter how he has to get there. He yearns for the power that would deem him worthy.

Meanwhile Neil uses whatever advantages he has to make the world less cruel, to right whatever injustices he can in unconventional ways. Ichirou was right, he’ll always be a Wesninski at heart, but that’s not necessarily a bad thing. He uses it to protect himself and his friends. He doesn’t want power or what comes with it, but the knowledge he has is a useful tool and he’s self aware enough to recognize that.

Both Riko and Neil have been dealt shitty hands. Riko chooses to let it dictate his life and bluffs his way out of all his chips, while Neil knows when to just fold and accept good for good enough.

And the thing is, either could’ve been the other in a different world, under different circumstances. Who would Riko be if he had a Mary or Wymack to care about him? What would become of a Nathaniel who grew up in Evermore as a pet or one raised by the butcher?

Flip the coin again. heads or tails, which one will it be?

So just thinking about Matt and Neil's friendship, specifically in TFC when Neil calls Matt from payphone in Columbia.

Can you just imagine how angry Matt must have been?

We all know that Matt basically adopted Neil the second they met, here was his tiny, jumpy new best friend telling him that Andrew had taken him to Eden's. And as Matt said, ''I'm going to fucking kill him.'' He would have willingly fought Andrew for Neil. He knows he definitely wouldn't win, but that doesn't matter. His thoughts were just Neil is scared, Neil could be hurt, Neil needs help, Neil is with Andrew

So basically as Nora said in extra content that Andrew wanted to burn the World down for Neil, Matt would have been the one to provide the lighter.
