Idk where this idea that Solas is tearing down the veil to help the modern elves facing oppression came from because he repeatedly acts in opposition to those attempts and doesn’t even consider modern elves his people. He considers them with disdain mostly

He seizes control of the eluvians from Briala, who was using them to help modern elves and now can’t

He straight up tells the inquisitor that he doesn’t particularly care about the plight of modern elves and is surprised at the inquisitor thinking he would

He does not care about modern elves. They are not his people, he is not doing what he’s doing to help them. Sometimes they benefit but that’s as a side effect, he is not going out of his way to help them, and efforts to stop him are not hurting the modern elves
