what i like the most about Hisoka saying he's perfectly normal , is that for something to be "normal" you need to define a norm and also what makes you deviate from it. & usually what a person considers normal is heavily influenced by the culture they grew up and and are surrounded by now

which brings me to two points

Hisoka's baseline might just be ... he himself? He's a loner, usually sits by himself & rarely has meaningful interactions with others. Of course he's influenced by the culture around him, but spending as much time in his own head as he has i think he might really just have come to the conclusion that the things he wants reflect the average desires around him which brings me to point two

I don't think he's that wrong? Not in a sense of he isnt a freak, right. Especially as a reader of the manga seeing him say that he's "just a guy" is funny. He does not act "normal" he's clearly strange, the way he conflates sexuality and violence is not the baseline how people interact with these two things. BUT looking at the society of hxh and in particular looking at hunter society i can see how you would end up with the mindset that youre not that strange. He kills people yes, but hunters are allowed to do that, he straight up tells netero (who could have pulverized him on the spot) that he wants to be a hunter so he can kill people. His reputation in havens arena is also for being killer. People were shouting for murder in his fights. Like they paid to see him be violent! And serial killer for the joy of it also seems to be a geniune type of people who can very very openly exist and he is simply part of that cultural subgroup & within that realm the things he wants are, well still fucked up, he still wants to kill for his own pleasure but i can absolutely see how he'd end up with the mindset he's got

Yeah it really tripped me of, esp. bc he said that the ending he already shared would be the one most people would happy with.

And that one was such a ... ridiclious "if you boruto my manga i will bite your fingers off" ending hahhaha but also it did have all the main characters alive and have children which does made it feel like he correlates reader satisfaction with his characters being alive and having a happy ending/happy future, so it feels like anything that people will dislike will mean death/endings that arent happy family times

i do think ur right that it might be about something really far in the future, which well. unlikely it will happen, i really do hope he'll manage to finish this arc in a way he likes for like, his own sake tbh since he does seem to be really attached to finishing the manga

but yeah yeah, right now it would feel the best if kurapika just. makes it. i think the set up for it is already so so good, with helping a baby. saying they have hope for the first time in forever + maybe im delusional but i would just love love love to see leorio help out too .... god imagine a chapter ending on kurapika FINALLY calling him back ??? Hello??? ahrg

and agreed on hisoka and illumi. like the only people hisoka gives a shit abt on this boat are illumi and chrollo and as we already said... chrollo should get to succumb to his hubris in some other way. so unless hisoka makes some new surprisng bonds its really just illumi who means literally anything to him ...

I WAS SO SHOCKED AT THE BONOLENOV REVEAL BUT IT'S SO GOOD. Like we KNEW Bonolenov had some way to disguise himself and everyone IGNOREDDDD ITTTTT because we were like "oh but if that's not Hisoka, it has to be Chrollo right" NO. IT'S NOT THE FAN FAVE CHARACTER. SO FUNNY. I love it. I love Bonolenov now. His ability is really cool and I like the way he thinks. On the OTHER hand his KILLED LYNCH!!! Fuck!!! I liked her!!!

Honestly the part of this chapter that gets me the most though is Chrollo. Everyone in the troupe knows that Chrollo is just pretending to be okay! Everyone is trying to look out for him! He kept Pakunoda's spot open because of how much he cared for her... he's devastated by the deaths of Shalnark and Kortopi the same way he was devastated over Uvo... It's an interesting angle to take with Chrollo, to focus on how his troupe react to his grief and rage by trying to PROTECT him. Someone on twitter pointed out that this is the same thing Gon and Killua did for Kurapika! They didn't want Kurapika to kill more people during Yorknew!!! And while it's not EXACTLY the same with Chrollo, it's definitely notable that they want to kill Hisoka first specifically because they understand what Chrollo is going through, as opposed to letting him do it and purposefully pointing him towards it.

At this point I hope that Chrollo and Hisoka don't have a rematch. It would be better for Chrollo's character to lose that chance for revenge and have to face those feelings, though I'm not sure about what should happen with Hisoka.

And of course, Chrollo wants to find a "treasure" that can 100% kill Hisoka, and I wonder if that's connected to the succession war. I mean... it's gotta be, right?

my bets on the spiders being on the ship becomes common knowlege because of something during the procession for halkenburg, i feel like that wouldn't have been announced so ominously otherwise... mhhm actually kurapika finding out but then chosing to stay with oito and wobble to see things through could be a good step towards them moving away from their own downfall wich then also would make it intersting if as u say the treasure is likely up there and chrollo and kurapika can have their run in despite personal choices??? ahhhhh its all so

i do really wamt kurapika to survive, i still have togashi saying that the ending he likes the most would only have 10% of the readers satisfied hanging over my head bc thats such a??? what do you MEAN. & i cant imagine that this much dissatisfaction would mean anything but mayor character death of fan favorites but also its genuinely looking ... good for kurapika? 😭 And since idk if we are ever returning to gon and killua i think kurapika getting a similar ending as them, of maybe things are different and its harder now but you actually get to live and have family again would be very... sweet and fitting Which is also... an ending chrollo just cant have? like hes upset about all his friends dying, theres DEF more spiders dying here like he's not getting out of this hole..... this ships his coffin

and hisoka.. god same i have NO idea, the last two times he was this bored on screen was greed island where he joined the dodgeball game and then when he was voting where he let illumi order him around so i do feel like unless he finds someone to get excited abt there might actually be a chance he'll .... """"""help""""" whoever asks first I will say though, as much as i like him i actually wouldn't mind him dying, with his " love each other to death" confession and the fact that togashi really likes him too & will want to do him justice i think if he does die its gonna be like ..... unironically epic .... in one way or another

yessssss the chrollo and kurapika parallels are so good actually

i def do not see chrollo making it out alive, while im feeling much better for kurapika (still not safe though, but i feel like if they do die it might be a much more martyr for the greater good type of deal instead of succumbing to their anger)

& i agree i think it would be much more interesting if hisoka and chrollo dont have a rematch + im gonna be real if we have big showdown id much rather have something emotional for chrollo and kurapika, their stories lean so heavily against each other i think its much more narratively important to get some kinda closure there

though i am curious what hisokas gonna... do... lol... he looks so bored rn hshshs + hes pushed the plot before so that he can get what he wants & as much as he is dead set on fighting he seems willing enought to engage with anyone else whos powerful (hence is his disapointment abt halkenburgs group ability) so it might just be a matter of either which powerful player picks him up and points him towards the right direction first, or if he finds someone who could make things more chaotic

i will say. i do LOVE the difference of reasons between the plots that are going on. bc everything political on the black whale is so dense and heavy and heartbreaking

& on the other hand you have hisoka and chrollo (+ gang) who have equally as intense stakes (someone WILL die) but its all just selfmade misery.

like everything thats going on with the princes is out of their control there's a whole system that forced people's hands and they're all playing along or trying to game it and win the best they can but good lord hisoka and chrollo didn't need to do any of that.
