Open Letter
Open Letter to America: I would like to start out by saying I am not a politician nor have a significant understanding on they way politics work. I am a voter, I am a wife, a mother, a daughter, a sister. I live the dream….. well kinda. I don’t understand politics and how it all works.. I do understand you either are a Republican or a Democrat. I do understand that if you are a Republican you only can believe in what they believe in and same with Democrats. Well what if I actually believe a little of both - so what does that make me? I was talking to my family the other day and I think I want to start a new party- The American Party…. Why? Because I believe that 2 parties shouldn’t control America alone. It does no good. Nothing gets done. No one wins. I also understand that you can only vote Democrat or Republican but what if you don’t fully believe in either person? In my home state of Connecticut, the thought process for voting for Governor this election was everyone was going to vote the “lesser of two evils”. That’s sad.. Honestly.. You just voted for someone that you still didn’t believe in or agree with only because he was slightly “less evil” than his opponent. I have many beliefs, I have many values and they probably aren’t the same as the person next to me.. Actually they aren’t the same as people in my family- so we debate about it.. ALWAYS debate about it- constructively. We get our point across but we don’t say negative things.. We agree to disagree and move onto the next topic of debate- FOOTBALL! (I digress Go Pats!). Seriously, when I was younger, I had absolute no interest in politics. My father was very much into them and maybe that’s what I didn’t care. Now, I do and I probably should of cared when I was younger because I probably would have a better understanding of how all this works. They should make political science a mandatory class in high school before you can actually cast a vote- you need to pass the class. I think it would help the younger generation really understand the beliefs and values of the parties and find there own beliefs, their own values and when it comes time to vote, they know why they are voting and understand who they are voting for. Instead of just listening to their parents. Times change, the world changes and the younger generation is the key to the evolution of America. To make America strong and to make America the place to be. I love watching the news on election days. They already now who won weeks before we ACTUALLY vote. This poll and that map.. Dems got whollped.. whatever the analysis is and then starts the “this is what the American people wanted and we are going to do what they want- REPEAL Obamacare!” that’s what they want.. Well, actually no, that’s not fully what we want. We want our politicians to actually do what we want.. We want to live without poverty, we want to live without homelessness, we want to take care of the people that take care of the country for us. That’s what we want. We don’t want you to waste time on things you know aren’t going to get passed, we don’t want you to repeal a law that if everyone actually really understood the roots of it, is good for the country. It might not have been implemented the best or explained the best but the point of it is to make sure that individuals who can’t afford insurance, get it and don’t put themselves in further debit because of a high cost emergency. But anyway, back to my original point- I wish politicians wouldn’t agree because that’s what their party wants.. I want them to do something because it is actually right for the country. Be a man, be a women and do what’s right. I worry about education. I have 2 young children, one who just started 1st and on who is in 5th grade. I can’t even handle my 5th graders homework. What ever happened to simple math, whatever happened to spelling tests. The way I was taught in school, I’m surviving the real world. I understand the concept of Common Core, everyone on the same “playing field” but that isn’t fair to any child as no one is the same. Some learn faster and some learn slower. May be instead of focusing on everyone- let’s focus on the individual. If you happen to have a learning disability- let’s work with that. If it takes you a little longer just because your brain is wired a little differently- let’s work on that. Or if you are a smart child and it comes easy to you- let’s nurture that. Teachers work harder than anyone (as they say) then let’s put the effort in to nurture every ones needs instead of saying “I don’t get paid enough” Let’s put money into the schools- let’s stop tiptoeing around “you don’t want to hurt anyone’s feelings by segregating”. Classes, in some respect, should be based on the child’s needs. My daughter is smart and she is bored. How is that fair to her and there are probably children in her class that are a little slower and are stresses because they don’t aren’t understanding the work and getting the help they need. We as parents only can teach our children what we understand and if we don’t even understand how to solve math problems, that isn’t helping our child. Teachers always say, learning also needs to be in the home with parents help. I have no time to sit with my daughter for 2 hours trying to understand a simple math problem I solved 1 hour and 45 mins ago the “old way”. I teach my child life skills, teachers need to teach math problems and how to read.. I will “help” them with homework but I won’t do the homework. Let’s make school longer and I mean longer by not having such a longer summer vacation.. Why do we even need it? ok.. as a child I loved it but as a parent.. let’s make it shorter :) and not make us go bankrupt trying to find camps to cover the 3 months they are out of school.
I think that’s it for now.. I will be in touch!
