This is my blog. I have blogged on tumblr since I was 14. I am not going to start being dishonest or ambiguous on here simply because there’s a larger audience. I have no secrets. This is where I right about my life. I pride myself on being someone who is painfully candid and expository lyrically, as a musician. Why wouldn’t that transfer in to other outlets of creative expression as well? Don’t tell me to “keep it to myself”. What authority are you to me?

that fleeting moment at 4 am
when I’m shaken from a deep sleep
cause I can’t feel your skin against mine,
when my entire body hangs
suspended
in that silver sliver of time,
is a tiny speck of fear
that reminds me,
that I think I might love you,
when you turn over,
and kiss my neck.
two feet of space,
or 3455 miles,
any distance is too much to bear.

Write a letter to yourself 5 years ago.
Hmm.
hey ashley.
people call you halsey now. you nabbed it from a street that the boy who made you a woman now lives on. you got a few tattoos. ok like ten. you’re gonna snap one day. end up in a hospital for a few days. or weeks. but you’re gonna learn from the experience. things are about to get real tough with mom and dad. they’re gonna kick you out a few times and you’re gonna be completely stranded. no phone. no car. no health insurance. you make music now. like FOR REAL FOR REAL. a video went wild on the Internet and people started to tell you that you’re clever and you know what? you can kind of sing too. you’re gonna play a lot of acoustic shows. write a lot of bad songs. your heart is going to be ripped from your chest. a lot. but you’re gonna stop being so emotionally invested. you get cold actually. but you start to warm up. you make a ton of friends! And thennnn when music starts to become a priority you lose them all….people are going to HATE you. absolutely hate you. cause of what you wear or who you’re dating or what you sing. but you meet these guys, Dylan and Anthony. they change your life. You work hard. make beats in the studio of a basement. you put a song online. A TON of record labels call the next day. the next day! you’re gonna write with some crazy people. people who have written for Britney, Beyoncé, Marina, One Direction, Miley (oh yeah she’s absolutely nuts now by the way). you’re gonna cry. a lot. everything happens so fast and in the beginning you have nothing to show for it. everyone thinks you’re a loser. but people LIKE your voice. they LIKE your writing. thousands of girls tell you daily that THEY look up to you. you figure out who you are. you tell everyone else to fuck off. you build a team and they become your family and people start to promise you the world. you’re sitting in a sophomore class right now scared shitless of everything and everyone. you know you’re not gonna go to college. but that’s okay. because 5 years from now you’ll be getting on a plane to Los Angeles and the fun will really begin.
stay strong. stay humble. keep writing.
everything is going to be more than okay.
love, ashley x halsey.

I bleed and sweat and cry and fail time and time again to write for people who only seem to care about who I’m dating or what shade of lipstick is smeared across my stupid face. I want to teach young girls that their minds hold the secrets of the universe and their bodies could crumble a lot more than a man. Stop watching videos to get clear skin and start living to get some bruised knees and chipped shoulders.

if you honestly believe i got a record deal at a label with 239847298374 artists because I’m friends with o n e of them i sincerely hope you finish high school. I had options. I chose that label. I have dozens of friends who are signed musicians. This isn’t about cliques and name dropping. I worked fucking hard and wrote music that people love, and no one is ever going to take that away from me.

Today I visited my record label in New York and saw myself hanging on the wall in the offices with artists who have inspired me for years. If seeing my face in a neatly framed 12 x 12 isn’t all my dreams coming true than idk what is.

i find it so hard to continue with singing just because people are so judgemental, and i know i shouldn't give a shit about them but secretly i do.
You always will. When you’re an artist you’re constantly stuck in a limbo between wanting to communicate and wanting to hide. If you’re passionate about what you do, it means you’re putting a piece of you out into the world. If someone says you’re ugly or stupid or slutty, you can brush it off because it’s not a personal attack. It’s generalized and dumb. If someone insults your singing, or your song, or your writing it feels like a punch right in the soul because they are attacking a piece of you. What could be more terrifying? I would want to hide too. But I don’t. Because I’m an artist. And it’s important to me to share how I feel and hope to inspire someone else. Because that’s the thing about putting a piece of you into the world; if someone hates it, it hurts. But if someone loves it? They really really love a piece of you. Unadulterated, uncensored, unexagerated. They love that piece of you. And that feels kinda nice too.
But at the end of the day, an artist doesn’t create because they’re worried about being hated, or eager to be loved.
You just do it because it feels like there’s absolutely no other purpose for you. You just gotta do the damn thing.

I sold my soul to a 3 piece, and he told me I was holy. He’s got me down on both knees, but it’s the Devil that’s trying to
hold me down.
