Ah haa forgot to mention..! Daisytoe lived a very long life and had a fulfilling good couple years tormenting kits as the spooky distressing elder until passing away peacfully from pneumonia in her sleep.
ooh, what did Daisytoe and Rooktail do to end up in the Dark Forest?
Great question anon!
With Rooktail, it was mostly a lack of loyalty to the clan system as a whole. He didn’t hate the clans, he was just never suited to living in a large group. A combination of familial predisposition to paranoia and childhood trauma led him to spending much more time living like a rouge in the clan territory than actually being a warrior.
The trauma I’m talking about is the death of his littermates very early in his apprenticeship. You know how the elder’s den is a fallen tree in ThunderClan’s forest territories camp? That happened during a heavy storm, and he heard all four of his siblings slowly die under the rubble before getting dug out himself. In the aftermath, he made a lot of poor decisions informed by trauma(especially since the center of his clan’s territory, the camp, was one of his biggest triggers) and clan society isn’t exactly the best place to look for a therapist!
Other cats trying to get him through it did the opposite of help, he was used to being a background character in his own life and then all of the siblings that soaked up attention for him were suddenly gone. So he just sort of started. Roughing it out in the woods in an attempt to become a nonentity again. His size, pitch black fur, and the muscle he gained from over-exercising made that a lost cause though.
He is and never has been a truly bad or “evil” person, he’s just a worrier who gets really weird ideas that don’t make any sense and then acts on them without waiting for confirmation. Although he expects the worst of everything, he is NOT violent in any sense of the word. Rooktail has legitimately never actually fought another cat outside of training. Unfortunately his clan never really realised that he was just a poorly adjusted neurodivergent trauma survivor.
Towards the end of his life he lost a bet to Daisytoe and was forced to sire her kits. Their relationship was never a romantic one, and what was there was emotionally abusive on her end. He ended up raising Goosekit and Moonkit almost entirely on his own, but uhh. Rooktail should not. Be around impressionable children for long periods of time.
Rooktail tried to be a good parent with Goosekit and Moonkit but he’s just. Incapable of it with how his own mental state is. Should he have been a parent? No. But was he ever intentionally abusive? Also no. That didn’t stop him from doing damage, though. Both Goosefeather’s fixation on inherent evil and Moonflower’s passiveness in her own life are direct result of Rooktail giving poor advice and teaching them the wrong things.
Soon after their apprentice ceremony, he took off for one of his “off the grid” episodes. Being cooped up in camp, full of cats watching him with the source of his trauma right there really messed him up. He got disoriented, got lost, and ended up falling into the barn near WindClan’s chicken coop.
The farmer had been having a problem with a fox, and to be fair the emaciated-yet-jacked Rooktail DOES NOT look like a house cat. He ended up getting shot. The bullet wound left a hole in the middle of his jaw, which renders his spirit incapable of speech.
Rooktail actually sort of…. Outright enjoys living in the Dark Forest? He hasn’t encountered another cat, dead or otherwise, in all of the moons he’s been wandering around there. And honestly he wouldn’t have it any other way!
For Daisytoe it’s much more clear cut! She IS a bad person, she’s a needlessly cruel, impulsive, maniacal sociopath. She manipulates and uses anyone who gets close enough to her, she breaks the warrior code left and right for her own short term gains, and is just in general an intentionally cryptic asshole. And she’s completely aware that what she’s doing is wrong too!
She’s just as strange as her ex-mate, but in different, more well hidden ways. Daisytoe is actually social and present, but she likes messing with people a bit too much to be healthy. She’s sort of like a fae-like character? She plays jokes and pranks, words shit really weirdly so she can get away with things, and stuff like that. Like a little trickster god attorney. Moonflower and Goosefeather both have powers because of her. Daisytoe is a bit manic in general and has. Absolutely no respect for literally anyone
Large parts of why she ended up that way are due to StarClan interfering too much with the living world.
To make a long story short, she was meant to be a medicine cat. StarClan gave her some degree of in-the-moment precognition but what exactly the extent of it is intentionally very poorly defined. She would have been forced to be a medicine cat because of her abilities but she manipulated her way out of it by using her gift and social skills on the adults around her.
StarClan did. Not let this go.
Goosefeather’s powers were so fucked directly as a curse to bully Daisytoe but she STILL didn’t care so she went to the Dark Forest. There, she became the hellish nightmare trickster demon she was always meant to be! Daisytoe still has her StarClan admin privileges because they can’t take them away, so she walks in living cat’s dreams and generally causes the type of monkey’s paw wish mayhem you would expect from her type of character.
In fact, she might end up replacing Mapleshade role wise in Crookedstar’s Promise as Mapleshade has a significantly different story in this AU. I’m not sure yet, I’ll have to talk to Mod Sootfall about it.
Anyway, back to her relationship to her kits, Daisytoe was an average mom, while she was around. She tried? She did an okay job. Past a certain point she got bored though so she started being neglectful. Rooktail then actually started being a dad at that point because he wasn’t about to be a deadbeat. Having children was a novelty for Daisytoe who quickly grew disinterested, she wasn’t a bad parent while she was around but she certainly didn’t do much more than the base necessities.
I hope that answers your question anon! Feel free to send more if you need anything cleared up, or just want some more info.

Uhhh here’s a height comparison for Willowpelt(normal ThunderClan warrior size) and Thistleclaw in my friend and I’s AU! I just thought they turned out well so I should share ahah…
[AU concept is from BEFORE Spottedleaf’s Heart so it is not canon here! Thistleclaw is just a big old grandpa]

Daisykit / Daisypaw / Daisytoe -- ThunderClan Warrior / Dark Forest Residence
