MORE IRMA PREPAREDNESS AND SURVIVAL TIPS

As Irma approaches Florida, here are a few more things that will be helpful to know.

Make sure your phone has a full battery and you have those little USB charger battery things.  If you don’t, but you have a car charger, you can make a rudimentary charger by connecting 8 AA, C, or D batteries in series (positive to negative, so you get a string of 8 batteries) and connecting the positive end of that to the tip of the cigarette plug, and the negative end to the ring of the plug.  As can be seen in this exceptionally crude illustration.  I can’t guarantee a multiple charges from it (depends on the batteries, the phone, and the efficiency of the charger), but you should be able to get at least one.

In my previous post I talked about candles.  Tea lights are damn near useless.  Don’t use them for illumination.  Buy those 10″ tapered stick candles.  They are much brighter and will last longer.  Be sure to have something to stick them in (so they don’t fall over and catch something on fire) and something to catch the wax drippings.  BE MINDFUL OF THE CANDLES.

Illegal immigrants of Florida, do not hesitate to go to Red Cross shelters if the need arises.  They will not deport you for seeking help.  The government wants people to get the help they need, your status as an immigrant is secondary to that primary directive.

In the state of Florida, you may concealed carry your firearm(s) without a license provided that you are actively evacuating.  See FL 790.01 3(a) for the law in question.  On that note - ammo storage.  Store your ammo in a watertight container.

To Everyone Preparing for Irma

If you’re planning to tough the storm out, there’s a few things to remember.

Water is important, but you don’t have to buy it bottled.  If you have the means to store it, fill bottles from your tap.  Go for about a gallon per person.  More if you are concerned about the storm lasting longer, infrastructure damage, of if you are rural.

Food should be nonperishable.  Go for high calorie, low sodium foods.

Heating in Florida shouldn’t be an issue, but if power goes out, candles are good if you don’t want to eat into your battery stock.  Be aware of the fire hazard they pose and don’t sleep with them lit.

Make sure you have ammo for your weapons.

Stay safe.  Godspeed.

ITS HAPPENING

There is a strong correlation between immigration—particularly illegal immigration—and wages.  This should be obvious to anyone familiar with the fundamental principle of supply and demand: more supply (workers) means lower prices (wages), and vice versa.

Despite the fact that this correlation between immigration and wages is well-documented, it is not obvious to many liberal economists, who see immigration as an unfettered economic benefit.  The evidence suggests otherwise, including a new data reported by Fox.

According to the National Association of Home Builders, more than 56% of America’s developers are reporting labor shortages, which is forcing them to increases wages and improve working conditions to attract new talent.

In fact, according to Ted Wilson of Residential Strategies Inc. construction costs have risen by 30% this year—the majority of which is due to higher wages and increased overtime pay.  That is, companies are being forced to hire American workers, and pay wages at fair market value.

Why?

Because President Trump’s crackdown on illegal immigration is preventing them from hiring illegal aliens, who undercut the labor market, shortchanging American workers.  The impact of this (while often ignored) is significant.

According to Stan Market, CEO of Texas’ Marek, “half of the workers in construction in Texas are undocumented.”

He goes on to say that many of them are leaving Texas, either to find refuge in sanctuary cities and states, and “many of them are going back to Mexico.”

This is good news for American workers, who have been hammered in recent decades.  In fact, real wages have not risen for the median American worker since 1973, in part because of the deflationary effects of illegal immigration.

And just to be clear, this is not an isolated event—wages will rise in tandem with deportations and other labor restrictions (such as if, and when, the RAISE Act becomes law).

We know this because it’s happening elsewhere already.  For example, the restriction of temporary work visas in Maine earlier this year led to higher wages, better working conditions, and lower unemployment—all good for the average American citizen.

I wonder if those articles would classify as libel.  For public figures, there has to be demonstrable “malicious intent”.

Today I became tired of feeling like I can do nothing about the state of bullshit in this country. So I used my anger and my talents to make a statement because I can do something.
