SUDDENLY:Mushrooms is a digital magazine of international arts, that showcases how different artists in different contexts react to specific themes.
-------------------------------------------------------------------
Guna is one of the autochthonous languages of the nation-state of Panama. To quote experts from the GunaYala.org website: the language “wanders without being able to find the place it has the right to… Castilian, as official language of the country, prevails, to the detriment of the historical and socio-pedagogical value of the autochthonous languages”.
My original idea choosing to title this first issue of SUDDENLY:Mushrooms not in English, but Guna, was to draw parallels to the ongoing linguistic and cultural dialogues felt worldwide. To me, living in Wales, I could not help but see the similarities of empire both cultures have experienced under their particular hegemonies. Perhaps a failure on my part, that this aspect got overtaken by a more textual reading of the subtitle.
Surgued is Guna for dying, become lost, passing on… All words that have a direct link to the concept of death, but that can also be understood beyond the act of biological shutdown. It was this nuance, experienced on a Spanish-Guna dictionary, that made me consider the many dialogues that could take place by investigating death. Perhaps there is as many meanings to death as there are living beings in the universe… and if we take that premise to heart, then how many stories and ideas can be explored by a handful of people? It is that potential that lies in the in-between places that excited me the most.
Within this publication, you´ll encounter your own interpretations…  You know? Tell you what… as you read this, just have one question in mind. What does death mean to you? And as you consider the ponderings on the impossible geometries that the nothingness of passing on can inspire, meditations on the cycle of life-and-death, celebrations in contrast to seasons, folkloric thoughts from Jamaica, the spectacle of murder-mysteries, somber nothingness, ghost hauntings, and humour in the unfathomable, that lie within these (digital) pages, just wonder how you perceive death.
We’d love to hear what that is.

Such a fun surprise to see Dylan’s work being shared on Tumblr.
Meet him a number of years ago at a bar where they used to do lifedrawing classes. What a nice man, he is. Very humble. And a tremendous artistic powerhouse.
