HEY! CARDIO QUEEN, QUIT IT OUT!
Much like your first broken heart, learning that steady-state cardio will NOT get you the results you're looking for, is something you often learn the hard way. I have read COUNTLESS articles on the benefits of HIIT + weight training versus endless cardio. I even got to my leanest when I cut the cardio and prioritized strength training during my busy-busy last year of university. BUT, cardio-crash is default thinking. As soon as the number on the scale climbs after vacation or a big holiday weekend, that old mathematic equation of 'burn less than you consume' overrides all else, and I find myself on the treadmill or the spin bike, dying of boredom, counting calories consumed and burned in my head.
* The number on the scale is not your end-all-be-all. Remember, that number could stay the same and if you're training right and have got your nutrition on key, you could look drastically different in 12 weeks time! Don't let that digital downer ruin your days.
STOP NOW. IT DOESN'T WORK! Don't waste all your muscle trying to find out the hard way. This never became more apparent to me, than during my current half-marathon training. I always thought long distance running was the ideal of fitness accomplishments, just you + your shoes. I've never felt so far away from fit. 6 weeks of exclusive cardio, and I'm softer, exhausted, and more of a crazed-calorie-counter than ever. Don't get me wrong - learning that my body has the ability to run 21.1K has been amazing for me. I took something I thought I couldn't do, and I'M OWNING IT! That run is just 10 days away, and I am so excited. The only thing I'm more excited to do is get BACK IN THE RACK, and back to lifting! I miss the burn, I crave the the soreness, and the feeling of achievement that comes from knowing after a great workout, than I'm a step closer to a leaner me. Will cardio aid in weight loss? Absolutely. But don't get weight loss and fat loss mistaken. The question you need to ask yourself is, do you want to be a smaller version of yourself, or a mean, lean, fit machine?

Don't start over, just start today.
It doesn't take a long scroll through my little blog -- once Love & Allure, and now Femme Fitt -- to see that finding balance with fitness, nutrition and life's little enjoyment has been a journey for me (as it is for almost everyone). I always romanticized the notion of starting a brand new blog when I finally 'got to fit.' I would find a way to write about my journey, condensing whats been years of ups and downs, of victories and tears, to a few short paragraphs that could be inspiring and uplifting for others. But the reality is that there is no end line, you don't get to 'fit' and stop working, happiness isn't a destination. Happiness comes when you learn to love your life, at each and every point - no only when things are nice, and pretty, and perfect. Whether you're the first 5 pounds down, or just 5 pounds away from your goal. Whether it's your first clean-cooked meal, or a new Deadlift PR at the gym - take it in, this is life. Love the struggle, what challenges you - changes you.

Chocolate cravings? Keep it clean with these Flourless Banana 'Fudge' Muffins! • 1/2 cup smooth peanut butter • 1 large egg • 1/3 cup unsweetened cocoa • 6-8 drops french vanilla stevia • 2 large over-ripe bananas • 1/2 tsp baking soda, sprinkle salt • optional, 75% or darker choc. chips - Throw everything in the blender to combine, stir in chips. Oil pan with coconut oil and lightly sprinkle with flour. Makes 12 mini or 6 jumbo delicious, fudgy muffins.
