miscellaneous. okay usually when I draw back to back I try to have 2 cohesive pages to post but this is acrual whiplash. this is the product of mindless boredom

I realized like ok I've drawn a handful of characters as humans and i love doing that but never big asriel. because it's just so difficult. because simultaneously he is 1. a pathetic loser who is obscenely uncool (this i say lovingly. my stupid chud son), and 2. the epitome of what a 10 year old thinks is "just sooo cooool". and that's like an impossible combo

Hello!!! I'm a very big fan of your art, it's always so beautiful and whimsical, your Asriel designs is my favorite ever! I have three questions because I think your stuff is really cool, so I hope this isn't weird. If you answer any of your questions at all, I will be incredibly appreciative! Thank you for posting your art, I hope my art's as good as yours someday.

1. How do you do the colored lines on your drawings? You both use black and different colors like red, and it adds so much more vibrancy to your art. How do you pick the colors and add them? Od you draw them in black first, then replace them, or do you only use it for extra details you add after doing the line work?

2. Your coloring has such great texturing, it's grainy, it looks very painted, and blends the warmth on skin [or fur] amazingly. What do you use for this / how?

3. I thought I should add an UTDR question because I mean what are we here for. If your illustrations do not decieve, Asriel seems to be your favorite character, but who's your second favorite, and why?

ooughhh tysm <333 genuinely means sm to me 😭 when I make that process video I keep wanting to make I'll definetly be more specific ab the first two but for now:

question 1!! I actually do all of those things LOL, it depends but typically I will do the lines in black or whatever random color I start with, and then after I color I'll lock the transparency and go over it with different colors until I like how one of them looks. then sometimes I'll keep the transparency locked and then recolor some specific lines to more warm tones (mostly for organic material like skin or tufts of fur, bc white fur is very transluscent) (which is also why i never rlly color it fully white). sometimes though I do add an extra layer over top the lines and everything and kind of use it as a "clean up" where I just paint over messier lines (most of my art is pretty "messy" because i dont really do "lineart" per say i just use the sketch) and during that I often add more colored lines on top just for funsies. also, something really specific I do with my lines -> I duplicate the later, change the line color to usually a nice warm orange, and then use gaussian blur juuusst a bit so that the lines look super bleedy and dreamy. and I do this for quite literally EVERY drawing essentially, I actually do this to replicate the "glow" feature flipaclip added because I turned it on once by accident like 3 years ago and then started playing around and realized it was kinda goated

question 2!! the main way I get that papery grainy look is by selecting everything outside of the lines, inverting the selection, and then filling everything in with one consistent textured brush (i use the painty brush in my big brush post for this) and then I add a layer over it and clip it to that, so all the colors will have that texture to them, if that makes any sense. I also use the charcoal brush w the color jitter on a low opacity for gradients over almost every block of color I put down (mostly just because i like how a lot of varied color looks), but I do that a LOT on the dreemurrs in particular because, again, white fur is very transluscent and a lot of warm light comes through. I use a lot of orangey gradients in places where the fur thins out (ears, nose, obv horns bc they dont have fur theyre just keratin).

and question 3 I actually had to really think about this one but I think it simply MUST be my glorious mother toriel (it was a toss up between any other dreemurr tbh) but fun fact !! when I first played undertale as a kid my first favorite character was undyne. loved her deeply. until I finished the pacifist run and my mind was changed very very swiftly LOL

miscellaneous weirdly cut off deltarunes im not a huge fan of but whateva. lawl it occurred to me that if the game takes place in modern times (as noelles flatscreen tv implies) asriel has NO need to be collecting cds he just like me fr. also I've been inducted into the teal antler dess club it's just so good I freaaking love teal

also I think all the time about this one post that said deltarune hits different for pianists and it's kind of absurdly true I literally finished chapter 4. closed my laptop. and just sat at the piano for like 2 hours and I can't stop playing sevenfour it's so darling and I'm gonna shed tears when I hear it in an actual song in the game for the first time

When I see people draw older Asriel I always wish they’d give him a little bit of blonde hair or stubble like his good ol dad but I never really see it, like AT ALL HDBSN what’s your opinion on Azzy looking more like his dad vs his mom? Do you have any like solid idea on how you’d draw an older Asriel?

soo sorry anon but I am actually generally a blonde asriel disliker.. I do see it super super often LOL (not a bad thing by the way!!!) like let me be clear 🧏‍♀️ I LOOVE seeing people's designs there is so much range in interpretation and that's one of my favorite things about fandoms straight up and my own design isn't like a "prediction" or "what i think he SHOULD look like" at all its just self indulgent and for funsies. I actually care soo much less about what he'll look like than what his personality will be

but also LOL like. listen I think the luscious blonde locks and beard work really well for asgore I love his design. but it just doesn't really feel like "asriel" to me I suppose. I always liked that he took after toriel more I mean his sound bite in undertale is literally just toriels but pitched up and his emosona design came from toby fox giving toriels sprite "evil eyes" LOL. also more than anything I like him having a generally more androgynous look as opposed to "boy has beard"

allat being said I don't think anybody should put anyone's designs down it is NOT that serious ever why can't we all just have fun.. like ik I already said it but I really really love how varied DR asriel designs are like yeasss draw him like a grody nerd! sure! draw him like alex yiik! it's funny as fuck! draw him emo as hell! whateva!! he can be chopped!! he can be unc!! but in the ACTUAL game I just. don't really want him to be blonde. 😪 I wouldn't wish that upon anyone. anything else goes tho

havent animated something in quite a minute but I was hit with an amv idea realistically unambitious enough to go through with 🤞

this was a first pass i didnt redo a single frame here so its just a tinnyyy bit more "static" than id like ig.. a little too subtle.. mostly testing easier ways to color animations in csp here and LOL i didnt initally realize i had left color jitter on a bit while filling in the background so thats distracting. also about halfway through I remembered I wanted this to be dark world kris so if I continue this I will probably recolor it completely sigh

and well. well yes yes I love flowey he happens to be my absolute number 1 favorite utdr character I just kind of never ever draw the flower. per say.

like yeah my blog is obv quite asriel centric and people tend to be split about how they see him vs how they see flowey but ☝️ not me.. not I.. personally I see him as just one linear character and asriel would NOT be my fav if he wasn't flowey like not even close.. everything I like about him is taken from the WHOLE ykwim I just don't like to try and separate different aspects of his character when they're essentially made to come together. also LOL lowkey i don't find drawing flowey quite as fun and what do I do this for if not to have fun

look man I wake up every morning for a 12 hour shift at the asriel factory every day slaving away over the asrielsemmbly line so I can feed my wife and children and it smells like a farm in there and there's only so much asriel that can be produced while supplies last and the demand just gets higher it's a tough life our there. I come home with flower petals up my nose and i have to kick my dog and punch holes in the wall to keep my sanity and it scares them. it scares my wife and my children. I dony know what I've become

What's your favourite location in the game?

(For some reason, the place that emotionally got me the most was the entrance to the castle (and the basement)).

my all time favorite location in the whole game is the true lab by far i love it so hard. it's a really cool diversion from the rest of the game atmospherically and I LOOVE seeing people reactions to it on first playthroughs. the assets go crazy the sound design for endogeny goes crazy the environmental storytelling with snowdrakes mom not even being able to form a bullet pattern is so heartbreaking and. might I add. just goes crazy. also the way the amalgamates are sparable by remembering how you previously spared all the enemies that individually make them up is great

it's also one of the locations that stuck with me the absolute hardest the first time I ever played like specifically the spoon lookin amalgamate tucking you into bed like are u kidding me.. iconic to me. also obviously I love it for having all that flowey/asriel lore that's definetly a factor LOL

other than that to nobodys shock my second favorite location is the dreemurr house it's my all time favorite reaction area for first time players. I had a phase a while back when I first got back into undertale where I would just put on a bunch of random blind playthroughs in the background as I did things and it's just so wonderful when people see that cutscene and the house for the first time.. it's fun because people can always tell that and especially the true lab are trying to get you to come to some kind of conclusion about flowey and the royal family and most of the time people do not put it together LOL

and then third favorite is the statue in waterfall. brother that fucked me UP when I was 10 years old I was depressed over that music box

omg and to go on a tangent ab that I think it's suchhh a perfect introduction to asriels motif even though the puzzle its used for is genuinely for nothing. when the game first came out there were no notes that appeared over the statue telling you what to play on the piano, you just had to really internalize it. So it A. forced you to really latch on to that melody and B. associate it with a melancholic lonely feeling (because of the general vibes of the statue). and then when it comes back up later in the song undertale it just hits like a truck man I love it

TY!!! I'm actually so glad and relieved when I hear that people also enjoy my rants about characters because I am always a bit nervous posting interpretations / analysis lawl I just push past my fears and post that shit anyway

anyways kris!! I actually have very little to say about kris rn sad 2 say. I'm very very interested in the direction their character is gonna go so safe to say I am a big kris fan I just don't think I have anything constructive or new or even just something I am opinionated enough on to say on the topic.

kris and asriel though I am soooo interested in because there is some really interesting flavor text regarding him every once in a while ->

these were just off the top of my head I'm positive there's more but like kris what's up.. I mean obviously the most in your face thing of kris feeling insecurity abt not fitting in with their family and feeling inferior to asriel as the "golden child" even though they seem to have had a good relationship and childhood. these lines just kind of stand out to me in particular and I would actually REALLY heavily prefer it if asriel wasn't just a super nice perfect brother when he comes back I think that'd be a little bland
