Feast of Lights Not-So-Secret-Santa 2024

Hello everyone! Its that time of year again!

This year, we're repeating the same open exchange format from last year. Here is the link to the form to fill out if you're interested in receiving a gift!

Sometime tomorrow (12/2), I will post a link to the spreadsheet of responses on this blog, and pin it. If you're interesting in filling that request, just put your name next to the request (I'd ask people to limit themselves to only signing up for one request, and only one person per request).

On 12/17, I'll lock the spreadsheet and post any unfilled requests as a separate "Treats" list that anyone can fill.

If you sign up to receive a gift, you aren't obligated to create a gift, and you can sign up to create a gift without asking for a gift. With the Treats structure, everyone who asks for a gift should get one.

If you need to drop out before 12/17, just remove your name from the spreadsheet. If you need to drop out after 12/19, please DM me @anyboli.

Forsaken Week Fic Preview

Been working on a Lanfear prequel fic for the last couple of months now after the original idea spiraled far beyond my control. This is the first quarter of that, and I thought it would be fun to post it for Forsaken week.

Full thing should be coming up on AO3 in a few days, but I've gotta get a new account first and didn't want to miss the day.

Anyways, hope you enjoy! I'm still int the process of writing the full fic, so any (constructive) commentary is greatly appreciated

Forsaken Week Day Thirteen: Lanfear

I mainly referenced bridal dresses for her outfit, though she also ended up with a bit of a 1970s feel.

Spoilers under the cut to Winter's Heart.

Cyndane's outfit is based off of an Edwardian walking dress. From my recollection it sounds like Moridin makes both Cyndane and Moghedien wear the same thing, so I wanted it to have a uniform feel.

A tiny little ficlet for Forsaken Week!

"Moiraine, we have to leave, now. They could come back at any moment," Mat said.

Thom had rushed to Moiraine's side, and was supporting her, looking curiously like a Warder. He nodded. "We should not waste Valan Luca's last and greatest show."

Mat turned to the other woman in the chamber, who looked back at him coolly with those large, dark eyes. She was stunningly beautiful and incredibly poised. Something about the combination niggled at his memory. "You too, mistress. I won't leave anyone behind for these foxes to gnaw on."

"Mat, that is Lanfear," Moiraine cut in sharply, her chiming accent sounding somehow strange to his ears. Or maybe it was just what she said. "One of the Forsaken. Daughter of the Night."

"But she…" looks so familiar, he stopped himself from saying. Where had he seen someone that looked like her? How could he have forgotten seeing someone who looked like her? Then the full force of Moiraine's statement hit him, and he grunted.

"That's Lanfear? Lanfear is here too?" He tried not to shout, but it was still louder than he intended. "Who else might I expect here, Aes Sedai? The Daughter of the Nine Moons, here to claim me as her consort, after I rescue her from durance vile?"

Moiraine's eyebrows drew together, as if she were concentrating. She opened her mouth hesitantly, and Mat barely had time to regret his slip of the tongue before the other woman- Lanfear!- responded.

"I answer to that title, as well," she said, in a light, amused tone. "Yet I had thought it lost to this Age."

Going to Georgia is a peak "crazy ex" song, and Lanfear definitely fits it.

Forsaken Week Day Twelve: Graendal

Graendal is all about luxury, so I gave her a Rococo gown. For her streith dress, I imagined it being cut simply and having a tight fit since one of the features is its transparency.

At one point her hair is described as having the curls placed 'just so', and that brought to mind historical hairstyles that were piled high and decorated with jewels.

I kept the Rococo style for Hessalam, since she carries herself the same despite her new looks. The little heart-eyes doodle is her being Aviendha's #1 fan.

It would be a dire mistake to take Graendal at surface value.
