𝐎𝐏𝐄𝐍 𝐓𝐎 𝐀𝐋𝐋.
after two weeks abroad for a fashion show and then to review some leasing documents for her french flat coming back to the island felt like a WEIGHT off her shoulders… lilac felt at ease again, the whole time she was away it always felt like something was just off. back and recovered from jet-lag, lilac had decided to give herself one last day before going back to the floristry. she so rarely afforded herself a breather, but also she knew there was no good to come of living the next twenty-five years as high-strung as she had been the first twenty-five. but even now, several months on, lilac still didn’t feel like she could fully relax: waiting on another legal onslaught from her father or brother was just second-nature at this point. lilac was so lost in her own tangled thoughts that, when she lit her cigarette, the whites of her knuckles showed bright from the intensity of the grip. “perhaps i should get a pet,” she mused aloud, technically to herself but still ALOUD: “or is that just sad?”
"That depends," Abel mused, "would you be getting one for sad, lonely cat lady related reasons? Because then I have some bad news for you." Truth be told they never had much interest in keeping an animal. Too much mess and responsibility he would tell himself. He had always wanted one growing up but that, along with many other childhood wants and dreams, were swiftly swept under the rug. "Or do you want a pet because you have the need nurture something? Also not a great reason to take care of a living thing if you ask me but it's better than a kid so." Abel could think of positive reasons one could have a pet of course, they just thought it would be prudent to cancel out all of the wrong ones first. She seemed stressed, for lack of a better term, and they truthfully were not in a place to comfort someone at the moment (or perhaps any moment. He gave pretty shit advice at the end of the day). "Could I have a cigarette?" That was their initial goal when they saw her. "I can bestow some more sage wisdom better when there's some nicotine in my system."

“thank you, mate. but i make literally no more money selling her album. it’s just great, you know?” well, that was a bit sad, wasn’t? auggie wasn’t getting any commission, he just loved sharing things he liked. he was probably hurting don’s business more than he was helping it, annoying customer like this. but hey, don was free to fire him if needed. auggie would find another job somewhere but still spend his free time in this shop. “well, abel, it will be my pleasure to educate you.” auggie stepped out from behind the corner, bringing abel down the aisles, to where other adele’s records were.
“i think it’s all about the honesty behind her words, ya know? and her feelings. like, raw emotions and shit. i think it’s courageous, to open yourself that way to the world, and just…be open for judgment.”
"You don't get enough money being here period. But hey, perhaps she'll wander in here one day and ask you to be on her next tour. Remember I can see the future." Not exactly but that doesn't stop Abel from tapping their temple with their pointer finger. They lean back on the front desk of the record store, eyes watching Auggie as he goes on and on. There was some regret in asking about the album but it was too late now. "That was unexpectedly earnest. It seems a little early in the day for that." He gives him a grin to imply that he was simply joking. They had a habit of doling out jabs without thinking of the consequences, yet Abel always managed to save face. Besides he wanted to be a little sweet on the other if it meant another sleepover at his place. "You can add it to my tab. I do, however, have a customer complaint. Do you genuinely not have any Prince albums in this whole damn store?"

Is there anyone on the island you would want to get to know better?
“Ugh. Yawn. I feel I’ve already met enough people. I like to keep my circle small. Sasha was a nice girl and it’s probably time I get to know Auggie a little bit better if I’m going to see him again.”

“I’d prefer to be the one taken out personally but I feel like Desdemona would be a good choice. She’s classy and gorgeous. You can’t go wrong for a first date for drinks at Cygnus.”

𝚘𝚙𝚎𝚗 ›› 𝚌𝚎𝚍𝚊𝚛 & 𝚜𝚝𝚘𝚗𝚎, 𝚎𝚊𝚛𝚕𝚢 𝚖𝚘𝚛𝚗𝚒𝚗𝚐 (around 7am-ish, after sunrise)
the business had only been open half an hour when zahid came to the cafe after a BREAK OF DAWN surf with rue, who was now off down at the agora market grounds setting up her stall —- they’d showered off at the beach showers and left his wetsuit and board down at the lifeguard stand, and now took a seat at an outdoor table; “can i get scrambled eggs, bacon and some toast on the side? —uh, yeah, and a fruit salad bowl, and a double-shot latte with almond milk,” and then smiled, a LITTLE awkwardly (wasn’t he always awkward?), “i’m gonna step out for a second, i’ll be right back,” he informed his server, so they didn’t NOT bring his food —- and then went out onto the sidewalk and lit a cigarette, offering a smile to a familiar passerby, words muffled around the butt of the cigarette — “g’mornin’…”
Usually Abel preferred Cygnus but Cedar and Stone was closer to their work and had a much more bearable breakfast crowd. They were sure they could still sweet talk their way out of having to pay for the meal regardless. After a night of debauchery he still found himself free of a hangover and truth be told that was one of the best parts of his luck. Instead of feeling, and god forbid looking, like death Abel turns turns the corner and spots their bandmate outside the restaurant. "Morning sunshine. Smoking before breakfast? I hope you don't have much of an appetite." Their eyes flicker to the cigarette and they're quick to pull put their own pack. When in Rome and all that. "What time is practice again today?” Truth be told they never remembered the schedule. “Just so I can plan my escape from work later accordingly."

❝and if YOU had as much insight into yourself as what you do here… maybe you’d just change your schedule so people aren’t playing abel-russian-roulette,❞ linna raised an eyebrow, still no rippling in the tranquil lake that was inside her, a smile playing and FIXED on her lips. a bright smile with straight teeth flashed, ❝far from a saint, and far from a sinner… but i still live by my own code, as do you,❞ linna knew NOTHING of abel’s past, neither had consented to a reading of the other (not many did in this line of work), but she could also tell that there was a reason for the way he acted, the same way she did. her CODE came from growing up in the carnivals, circus and show communities, nomadic. ❝i’ve always found that it’s the devout christians and catholics that end up seeking us out… there’s never room for questions for them. irritating,❞ she agreed, reaching into her bag for a small plastic medi-kit and pulling out a single, dissolvable asprin & handed over the little individual packet, cut from a larger sleeve for convenience… ❝and painfully stubborn… as for your sparkling water, use your imagination,❞ and then linna sat, spotting someone approaching, and played the VISUAL part of a client.
❝really, change your schedule, or put a clause there that says your hours are subject to change. sometimes people who come in aren’t so polite,❞ that was a POLITE way of saying it, and linna pulled out her velvet bag of knucklebones; pouring them out veeeery gently as she began to carefully polish each with a soft cloth. everyone KNEW that linna forbade any other person from touching her sacred dice, sea-shells or the bones, it was one of the FEW THINGS that linna was extremely clear & serious about… so she didn’t restate that as she continued with a smile, a flick of her eyes over his shoulder; ❝there’s someone waiting, by the way, so maybe have your asprin…❞
"Do you really think that divinity runs on a schedule? The universe will tell them when I am ready for them." They give Linna a cheeky smile. This back and forth wasn't uncommon for the two of them and at least to Abel it made coming into work more entertaining. There were only so many questions about crystals he could deal with in a day. "Everyone lives by their own code and the world would be a much more tolerable place if we all admitted to it." It's meant to be much more cynical than he made it sound but it was too early for any philosophical discussions. All they knew was that their code had brought him to where he was today and he didn't regret the choices he made for a second. England was a lifetime ago and Abel adapted accordingly. "Oh but their hypocrisy is what makes their readings so fun. One time I was called the devil and I take it as a compliment." Although one didn't have to identify with any world religion to comment on Abel's moral standings. They were as wish-washy as the rest of him. Taking the aspirin from her, he's quick to pop it into his mouth and swallow. "I saw a vision last night actually of you getting me one. Raspberry flavored. You can't fight the universe Linna." If she was expecting a thank you she wasn't going to get it. He sighs melodramatically, even if she was right it wouldn't be like them to not make a fuss. "You could always curse the rude ones or give them a good scare like say they'll go bald or that their husband is cheating on them." Abel wiggles his brows suggestively. "I'm joking." The other took the craft seriously, more seriously than he could ever fully understand. While he still wasn't sure on just how much he believed they knew it meant something to her. He glances over to the customer and back to the girl, rolling his eyes. "You really are all business. Fine, I'll handle it even if they do look like a deer in headlights."

they grin at their suggestion, “ i’m glad you agree. ” they were certainly known for trying to make a scene at every event they went to — if they weren’t the center of attention or the reason that something goes wrong that they can watch from afar to snicker at, it wasn’t a successful party at all. abel, while they had their flaws, was the perfect person to do this with. arsyn always tried to keep him at arm’s length, but at the same time, as close to them as possible. they wanted to make sure they learned everything about him to stay at least one step ahead. arsyn pauses, genuine offense on their expression. “ yes, and if you insinuate that it doesn’t look good, i’ll burn whatever you love the most. ” arsyn threatens with a fake smile. the one thing that will offend them is insults on their looks or style. “ let’s go, asshole. ”
Abel worked hard to get where they were in life, sure it was through scamming, cheating, and lying, but they deserved to enjoy the fruits of their labor nonetheless. Arsyn would never know what that was like so it was easy for the resentment to build up. He wasn't an idiot though and was hardly the irrational type (at least not anymore) and he would be a fool to let the other out of their sight. "A little chaos is why I like to keep you around after all." It was partially true. The other's chaos matched with Abel's innate luck meant that the pair could walk away from most things relatively unscathed. "Touchy tonight, aren't we? I was going to give you a compliment." He grins, finding satisfaction in messing with people like it was second nature. "You can call the Uber since I found the party.”

“ aw, thanks ! looking forward to it as well. you’re my favorite form of catharsis, babe. ” alex says with a small grin, adding a little boop to their nose. this was the norm with them — pressing on each other’s buttons until eventually, one of them would piss the other off enough to start an actual fight. most of the time… it was alex, with his short temper and boredom with just words. “ you wanna try again ? i’d be happy to give you a reminder. ” even with a person he could barely stand, it was the multiple tequila shots in him that continue to search for a flirtatious opportunity. at his request for a drink ( more of a rude demand ), alex rolls his eyes, with every plan to half-ass this drink. “ one watered down mojito for a piece of shit, coming right up. ”
"I think the term you're looking for is masochistic. I know it's a big word for you." Then they were booped of all things and their eyebrow twitches. Abel was always so good at controlling his emotions, never allowing anyone to see all of his cards, but the longer he spent around Alex the harder it was for him to remain cool. He swipes the hand away. "If we aren't fucking then you can't touch me." The offer makes them laugh but they would be lying if the idea hadn't crossed their minds. The pursue of chasing a rival made the thought of being intimate much more exhilarating. "Are you really so desperate for attention in a crowd of people?" As if they weren't. "Perhaps if you impress me you can have another chance." Abel could feel the tension get worse as the interaction could go one of two ways. "You flirt. If you spit in it I'll have you make me drinks all night so you can't run off and try to sadly seduce some poor person. Sound fair?"

“Bambi.” She repeated, sitting down with an amused lift of her brow. “I’m not sure if I should like it or not.” She looked over the menu, feeling the eyes of the hostess on her back. “I’m sure she just thinks of me as strange. New to the island, coming here alone all the time. Maybe its pity.” She shrugged it off, though she knew it was indeed true, to some extent. While she liked being alone most of the time, being in a new place and having no one seemed, and sometimes felt, pretty lonely. “I’m Sasha, the by the way.. Will I get your name? Or shall I call you Thumper?”
"The only thing to pity is her god awful shoe choice. Open toed in a restaurant? I come here for a bit of class, not to feel like I'm on a farm." From the moment they stepped foot on the island, Abel made it a point to make himself comfortable. They stuck to the right places and talked to the right people to ensure a certain social standing. Magnetic was meant to be theirs, they were sure of it. Some nosey wait staff was the last thing to cross his mind. "Sasha? Lovely name." He eyes her up and down but doesn't comment much else. She was pretty even if she came across as a lost, little lamb. "I'm Abel, your gracious savoir." As a server passes the table he flags them down. "We'll take another wine glass and a bottle of that red I like." White wines were to be enjoyed during the summer anyway.

she was planning on finishing early, mornings were her favoured time to work but she still had other things in her schedule to do; but one didn’t need to be gifted with ANY sight to know that abel had a very, very good chance of NOT arriving on time. finally spying his face enter, she packed up her knucklebones from where they been cast in a reading for herself, and approached her coworker; with a hand on her hip, linna raised her eyebrows; ❝should i need to make an appointment with someone who could care less about keeping them, i will be sure to let you know, abel,❞ if she was someone who was prone to annoyance or irritation, she would have prickled, but linna’s sense of tranquility was so rarely rippled with or by anything… and so was the way with abel, with anyone.
❝i have patience in excess, more than you it would seem. but what i don’t have is the desire to keep making excuses for people coming to see you when you aren’t here. be late if you want, that is your business — but from today going forward… if you’re not here when you’re supposed to be, i’m not going to turn them away if they ask for my services in the meantime.❞ she had been doing so out of professional courtesy, it was a small store and a small group who practiced and respected their craft. but she was tired of turning people away… people who may need insight, guidance. ❝and now, should i get you an asprin?❞
Linna's scolding wasn't anything new and maybe if they cared more about what others thought they would feel bad about it. Instead, he shrugs. "If they wanted a reading from me that badly then they should know my schedule by now. Simple." Abel had built up a loyal clientele over the years he had been at the shop. Each face that sought them out for guidance were none the wiser to the fact he couldn't actually predict the future. It never mattered how inaccurate the readings were, they always came back. Things tended to work out for them in that way. "Yes, yes. You might as well be a saint. If only Christians weren't so mind numbingly irritating." It didn't bother Abel if she didn't like him, they were always in the mood for some banter. Any harsh words rolled right off of him like water off of a duck’s back or however the saying went. "If I were you I would have taken the extra cash. My clients pay well and you aren't completely uncharismatic." He looks at her at the offer. Of course she would still show them some kindness. "Please. Could you get some sparkling water while you're at it? Thank you darling."

“ i’m gonna ignore the fact that you said that, because you’ve spent enough time with me to know there’s always a need for the theatrics. ” they comment with pursed lips, and a shrug of their shoulders. arsyn never felt a need to turn down their personality for anyone, but for abel ? they almost felt the need to turn it up more than anything. the fun thing about hanging out with him was that arsyn was always pushing different buttons, seeing which ones worked on abel and which didn’t… almost like they wanted to see how far they could take it every time. that, and his amazing body, are pretty much the only two reasons they hang around them. “ great, the least we can do is go and swipe some contraband. ” they suggest with a small grin.
They scoff but give Arsyn a shrug as if to say, fair enough. "Save some of it for the party. You're half the entertainment anyway." Their dynamic was unique to say they least. Abel constantly teetered on the edge of considering Arsyn to be one of their closest friends while not being able to stand them at the same time. Maybe because they represented so much of what he didn't have: generational wealth. Rags to riches was a cliché storyline they had no interest in sharing with anyone. "Oh absolutely. Last time they had champagne that cost as much as my monthly rent. Cheap of them if you ask me." It's only a matter of seconds before they get the address in their messages. It was about the networking. "Is that what you're wearing?"

Starter: Open
Location and time: CYGNUS RESTAURANT. MID DAY
The restaurant was packed with people. She hadn't been here long enough to really show up with anyone, date, friend, what have you. Coming alone wasn't something that usually bothered her, but the hostess made her feel so awkward. "Hi. You don't have to speak to me or anything. But can I sit here? I won't bother you. I just don't want the hostess to look at me like I am the saddest person she has ever seen."
often dined alone, as a matter of fact they preferred it most days. The only mindless chatter Abel was ever interested in was his own and at this point him and the servers had their own rapport. He would charm his way into telling them to put the bill on his tab which he never actually paid and be on his way. They look at her, eyeing her up and down. "I always say if someone is bothering you for being alone then they have nothing going on in their own life." Easy to say for someone who was so comfortable with themselves. "It depends how well you can hold a conversation, Bambi." Abel gestures for the poor girl to sit.
