like i really need people to understand that you don't have to be in fandom. if you hate the harmless ways people in fandom have fun - and make no mistake, you cannot and will not ever be able to stop them - then you can just leave! no one's forcing you to stay there! if you hate shipping and you hate cosplay and you hate dumb memes and silly AUs and you hate all those things that exist in every single fandom and have existed for years, then you can just choose to not be there. no one's forcing you to stay in fandom, you can just find the people who like the thing the same way you do and only interact with them and ignore the rest of the fandom. but people will ship, people will make memes, people will cosplay, people will draw their male blorbos in maid dresses, people will create silly lighthearted coffee shop AUs where their toxic faves are uwu cuties, people will do stuff that you will find deeply cringe, and make no mistake, no matter how much you might dislike it, they're not doing anything wrong. the world doesn't revolve around you and fandoms don't exist to solely cater to you. so if you hate it so much, just remove yourself from the equation and let other people have fun in peace.

While preparing new Shinsou content, I started thinking about some common thing within Shinsou’s fanfiction.

I've read a fair amount of Hitoshi fanfics, especially the ones where he ends up with Aizawa or both Aizawa and Mic in some way, either as a ward or an adopted child.

There were at least three tropes for these stories to go down:

1. The parents died (and since grandparents apparently don't exist in MHA, there certainly aren't any).

2. The story doesn't tell us the parents' story (which is mehhh, but it might not matter for the plot).

3. The parents were a bunch of complete assholes who abandoned their child or went unimaginable violence, and it all revolved around his Quirk.

And I can't help but think, why did the third option gain popularity?

Let's first remember how Quirks are inherited.

Children either inherit one parent's quirk, or a new quirk that is a fusion of their parents' quirks. It's very rare, like Eri's, for a quirk to occur that isn't linked to either parent - it's a mutation, and again, it's super rare.

So, knowing this, I wonder why the hell the parents in these stories take negative positions? Because one of them either has the same Quirk as Hitoshi, or a slightly modified one.

I rule out the possibility of a mutation - it would have been emphasized in the manga plot, or indicated somewhere, but there is no mention of it at all.

Then there is the moral dilemma: how could people who were potentially expecting a child abandon them because of a Quirk. I'm not talking now about other reasons. I'm specifically saying that the abandonment or rejection or violence was caused by the Quirk. I would understand if one of the parents left (again, it's weird - they chose a partner with such a creepy Quirk).

People just overdo it in trying to describe everything too dramatically. Horikoshi didn't write anything about Hitoshi's family and for us this is a great chance to create literally anything: dead parents, loving parents, single parent, grandparents, even Erasermic Family. I just want to say that this third factor always pissed me off, and there were rare works where at least Hitoshi's mother was ok. Don't get me wrong, I adore the stories of the Erasermic family, but I would like to see other interpretations of Hitoshi's orphanhood if it’s in the storyline.

damn 20 years. I feel too young to even comprehend that. like fellow was shipping these guys when I physically couldn’t say a word. I’m so happy to be invested in this otp. Like A Will of Fire I’ll impart love and knowledge of kakairu to next generations.

I am a KakaIru purist. Have been for 20 years. See, I don't care enough about Naruto to spend time trying to rewrite canonical facts and the joy of shipping KakaIru is that I don't need to do that. I get to fill in all the spaces from the delicious trail of crumbs from the official creative teams over the last 25 years and at no point did I need to reject reality.

I don't usually care when I come across random comments from people saying things like "I don't see it", or "KakaIru are not canon", or "they have no chemistry". I mean, it is literally the only ship in the Naruto fandom to achieve hegemonic status in Japan, so plenty of people do see them and feel they have chemistry. And I understand that not everyone can read Japanese or have access to original text and so they can't read any of the untranslated novels, or end up only having access to translated works where apparently the quality can be a total crap shoot (like the the weirdly done Viz Media translations that made up non-existent lines like "that's my Kakashi" or make stylistic choices like "dear" and "cherished" while cutting out the context of Kakashi and Iruka's relationship for the English translations) and are therefore not aware of the fact KakaIru has officially been given pretty much every stereotypical between-the-lines romance cue from any decades old j-dramas for capitalism and is therefore currently way closer to "canon" than any other kketc ships.

And most importantly, I don't normally care very much about the detractors because shipping is never about anyone else's opinion.

But that is not the point of this post.

Never, in my two decades of fandom, did I feel the need to publicly post about how much I dislike some of these so called "rival ships". One, most of the time they don't live in my head rent free because all my prime real estates have been given to my own ship. And two, if I am somehow forced to look at their materials because people can't use the tags properly, I keep my thoughts private, because I am old fashioned and agrees with Thumper.

Now, I get you don't like a ship. But why bother tagging the ship if you are just going to shit on it when you should know very well that tags are the main ways for everyone to filter for content? How narcissistic do you have to be to think anyone within that fandom cares to hear about your opinion?

Now that's out of the way, I am going to go back to my regular mental programing, like thinking about how Kakashi smiles at the memory of Iruka's face when he should be focused on choking out ten tokujos, or how Kakashi goes to Iruka to share his work difficulties and his private struggles like his insomnia, and that he still remembers Iruka's eyes years after Iruka stood up for him against Hiruzen and left an impression, and he uses a peephole to look into Iruka's classroom, and how Iruka is the only person Kakashi shows his face to by choice, and that Kakashi now shares Iruka's favorite hobby of going to hot springs, and talks to Sarada about how Iruka is so skillful at cooking and is good at housework; all the while the always proper Iruka Sensei applies no boundaries around Kakashi and teaches Sarada how to make Kakashi's favorite dish, and breaks professional decorum to warn Shino about Kakashi's childish side but still allows Kakashi to run the Genin exam, and that Shino chose to give Kakashi a chance because he knows that Iruka knows Kakashi, as they have both watched over Naruto as he grew up, TOGETHER. And how about the hilarity that even Naruto video games find ways for Kakashi and Iruka to refer to themselves as first person plural and finish each other's thoughts...without speaking out loud. (And yes, I checked, that first person plural was in the original Japanese text.)

Isn't it wonderful that none of these are headcanons?

I HATE HATE HATE how toxic sides of fandoms would pick on a popular straight ships by commenting father-daughter on every other straight ship contents and had the balls to say "I'm allowed to have an opinion!🤪" like can you keep it to yourself and find contents that suits you?

Also.. father-daughter??? Seriously??? Do they even know what father-daughter relationship is like??? Or do they not have a father to know what father-daughter relationship actually is???

The straight ship apparently had

✅ Jaw dropping symbolisms

✅ Subtle flirty lines (seriously? what father daughter would flirt with each other)

✅ Treats each other like an equal and have no need for parental affection

✅ Has official crumbs from the creators

And they would be like, OMG FATHER DAUGHTER!

Don't get me started with the "siblings dynamic" they always gaslight themselves to believe in because apparently that certain straight ship gets in the way of the most sexualized/fetishized mlm ship that has no actual mlm shippers and was just created because some fans are so h0rny they want to get off by making two of the most random male characters fvck with each other and the most "obvious evidence" they could present is that the male characters are beside each other in the official art or "they give g@y vibes" / one is dominant and the other is a "femboy" self insert character.

...or maybe they're insecure about some female characters? ISTG they will always find a way to hate the most gorgeous/kind/gentle/well-written female characters especially when they're involved in a popular straight ship on which one of the characters (most of the time male) is also involved in a rival g@y ship.

And when there's an actual g@y ship they'd act as if it doesn't exist, probably because the characters don't make them h0rny asf.

Like come on, just say you hate straight ships instead of finding the most ridiculous "evidences" to debunk them and shoehorn your headcanon to other people, ignoring the actual pieces of information presented to you because you're butt hurt from the truth and you use shipping g@y characters to cope with a certain real life straight relationship trauma.

foh’s comment: Initially I wanted to list them separately, but calling them series seemed wrong. They flow smoothly into each other, if the author had not chosen to separate them, it would have been a full-fledged big story of 250k+ words.

In my opinion, another underrated work on these two. A very plausible explanation of the relationship. Slow-burn, but not so slow to  get bored. I love this work for the nakedness of feelings, for the plausibility of emotion. Plot is driving and interesting to catch on, so – go on!

In this story, Yamada and Aizawa are not heroes, but ordinary people trying to find salvation in a small village and live a quiet peaceful life. I repeat, everything in this fanfic is beautiful: from the description of the nature and town to the plot. Just read it!

I saw the new mha movie. I think they need to start coming up with bizarre excuses to get Aizawa away from the plot because there was no reason for him to be totally absent from this one. If they're never going to allow him to be in a movie then they at least need to do some sort of a bit where at the beginning someone in class A goes "... And unfortunately Aizawa-sensei once again can't come along because he's dealing with a cat multiplication quirk/rescuing eri from the top of a mountain/taking a very good nap"
