I’m going to go on a slight rant to defend Nine because everyone still seems to blame him and compare him to Tails and I don’t like that. So imma defend my boi because no one else seems to want to…

So, I've been going through various Sonic fanfics, but have generally been avoiding Prime stories or continuations because I have my own headcanons and sequel story going on. But I thought I’d give one a go since it’s pretty popular and clearly a lot of effort had been put in. I got quite a few chapters deep, not much mention of Nine (boo 🥲), but when Sonic and Tails finally do start to talk about things, Sonic says this:

No hate to the author at all, it’s a great fic which clearly has a lot of love poured in; I really liked the focus on healing, plus a lot of the sentiment around Sonic’s trauma I really do share (and would actually love to include better in my own writing but I’m not that talented I’m afraid 😅)

However this paragraph just really took me out of the story… 💔

Because I would really hope that Sonic and Shadow would’ve learnt to not compare the Shatterspace counterparts in this way by now.

Sure, the Prism shattering might have created the different universes, but for everyone who lived in those universes, those worlds were all they ever knew. They weren’t ’alternate Green Hills’, they were their own worlds, their own homes.

Nine lived his whole life with no-one, and when this enthusiastic blue-blur forced his way into his life, everything changed. He’d never had anyone. And then he did. But he quickly realised that even that was only because Sonic essentially saw him as someone else.

Could you imagine finally getting a glimmer of hope in your life (& as a child bear in mind!) and then it all being dragged away as you realise it only exists because this one new friend thinks of you as a copy of someone else he knew????

I actually don’t blame Nine at all for the way he acted. He was a scared, angry, lost, lonely kid who just wanted to start a new life.

And that one friend who essentially forced him into caring about him and gave him that slither of hope, just wanted to take it all away. He basically wanted to make him disappear. He didn’t even think of him as real, or his own person, he was just some version of Tails.

(Which, thinking about it, was actually probably a name he was called by his bullies growing up, based on his reaction to being called it by Sonic… And whilst Tails was able to own his own truth as well as the nickname because Sonic helped him to love his uniqueness, Nine hated it because it likely was used to belittle and mock him 💔)

This scene in particular makes me so mad…

Safe to say, when I watch this scene, I actually fully cheer now when Nine takes the Shards for himself. 😅

I know you’re supposed to feel bad for Sonic here, but my empathy for him just flies out the window when I hear Nine’s voice. (Ashleigh Ball did so well in this series, omg!!) Sonic is probably about five to eight years older than Nine and he just tries to shut him down, doesn’t even think for a second about what this child (who he dragged into his dangerous lifestyle!!) is thinking or feeling!!?!? 🤯

When I see Shadow and Sonic being all sad and angry, I just think of Nine’s happy face making the palm tree and living happily in a re-made Grim. And I cackle at the thought of the hedgehog’s sadness. Fight me.🖕

Because fuck Sonic and Shadow in this scene! 😤 And the subsequent scenes where they essentially torture this poor kid by trying to destroy him with all the other friends Sonic is pretty much quite literally throwing in his face!! 🤬

You go Nine! Go get the life you deserve! 😘

And I honestly think Tails would be on Nine’s side too if he was there!!! 🦊

The fact that after beating him up, and he tried to fix his mistakes, they just left this tortured child alone in a strange world just feels so wrong… 💔

Sure, he was angry and that messed up his reasoning skills when he was taking the Shards, but I honestly think he had planned to just fix everything using the Prism Energy after he won the fight, he probably hadn’t considered it would get to the point where the universe would actually be torn apart…

Again, this is a traumatised child we’re talking about! A highly intelligent one, sure, but with practically zero emotional intelligence or experience interacting with other people 🤷‍♀️

And when people keep comparing Nine and Tails by saying Nine is just some copy, it pisses me off. Probably way more than it should, but it just really bothers me 🥲

Rant over. Justice for Nine.

Crazy request I have in mind-

Sonic get turned into a baby (don't ask me how) and tails is the only one that left (the others is on vacation or something XD/don't judge) what will he do? Will there be chaos? Will they both be okay?

I think one of Tails' experiments went wrong and Tails will have to be the big brother for a while. It will DEFINITELY be Chaos. Sonic is a problem even as an adult, let alone a child. Will Tails be able to handle this? I'll tell you about it in the next drawings) Thak you!
