Fav blog 🫶

Ahh such a difficult question!! The blogs I check most frequently are @gattyswriting and @palimpsezt because I am frothing over their fanfics right now. Other than that I follow a few blogs but I don’t normally go to specific blogs, I just check my following-feed (or specific tags). I am also quite new to being back on tumblr after multiple years of not being on here, so I am discovering new blogs every single day. There’s just so many talented and funny people in this fandom and I want to hug them all

I wonder if it's true that landoscar hanging out together a few times or are these just stories they tell in interviews? lando not only said he wasn't run into oscar in monaco, but he also specified who he plays padel with, making it clear that he doesn't see oscar there 😭 i still believe they don't hate each other and that they have a good relationship, but it's a little disappointing that they have to lie about some things. Anyway, that interview is from monaco, before the race (?) so i'm going to give lando the benefit of the doubt because it makes sense that he was bitter at that time and didn't want to talk about oscar at all..

I think it’s true that they hang out. It doesn’t seem like any of them to lie about that to be honest. Also, I’ve seen at least one picture of them playing padel together, with Gabi I think?

Also, during the Monaco interview, people miss the last thing lando says which is something along the lines of “not as much as I would like”. I also think people are putting too much weight on that one interview, instead of multiple other ones that say the opposite.

I also think that they spend such crazy amounts of time together throughout the year, so I would understand if they wanted some time apart to be with their other friends as well. I honestly think that they spend time together but that they just don’t share it publicly. They are both very private people with their relationships, and especially with relationships that really matter to them I think. Like, you rarely hear either of them talk about their loved ones in detail, more than just to acknowledge that they are being supported by them.

I think that the time they spend together during times off is not seen as work to either of them, and therefore they don’t post about it. Which is really fair.

all the “lando and oscar dont even like each other that much” discourse seems to conveniently forget that lando named oscar one of his best friends on the grid (ahead of the 2019 rookies, charles etc), they share rides to and from gps all the time (did we all just collectively forget strip poker???), they’ve both mentioned hanging out on their own time, they specifically asked for a shared space away from the rest of the team near their driver rooms and they OBVIOUSLY have tons of mutual respect and clear, open communication (again did we all forget qatar last year, lando slapping oscars ass the same weekend as “hes our driver of the day” …….) and much more….

Did you see that clip of Lando being asked if he sees Oscar in monaco? Everyone seems to be taking it as a slight, but missing the part where he says at the end "thankfully not as much as I WOULD LIKE" (as they would be thinking/talking about racing when they should not be so it is for the best, but he *would like* to hang out still)

i had only seen the first part of the clip transcribed so i hadn't noticed that, thank you!!! still, even if he hadn't said that last part, for me it still doesn't change anything 🤷‍♀️ some people really really reaaaaally want them to not get along and they'll hold on to anything to try to "prove" that they hate each other but you just have to see a couple of their interactions to know they do like the other and that's all that matters to me, they don't have to be best friends or anything! and it's completely normal that they are not attached at the hip, especially now with the championship fight. it's also important to know when to give each other space in order to have a healthy friendship 😉

it really baffles me as to why people want lando and oscar to hate each other and try to go out of their way to try and prove it like?? i get not shipping them or being interested in their dynamic but having such vitriol against the idea that they are friends is so ridiculous

like I can KIND OF get it if ppl hate McLaren or Lando and Oscar in a sports hate way so they’re just like hating anything to do w it for the fun of it - haterism is a natural part of sports enjoyment (as long as it doesn’t go insane)

but tbh it’s the irony of fans taking PR and having that as their basis of judgement and then accusing landoscar of being PR when… the whole reason most ppl don’t know that Oscar is very much friends still with Max and now Pietra and Ed and that Lando and Oscar have had private padel tournaments together and Oscar didn’t make a big deal of Lando’s grandma seeking him out for a little chat that got caught on camera and fandom loved but didn’t go insane over Chris bear hugging Lando in a blurry video after Miami win - and that’s all precisely because they don’t utilize any of their social time together for PR adjdbdhdb and not even McLaren has tried to whip fandom up into a frenzy about them and they dropped all their long form content after Oscar joined the team and the McLaren PR department to this day prefers any form of carland0 content bc Oscar simply won’t play ball the way they want him to

like are friendships that happen to love PR and fan engagement any less real friends no ofc not !! are they okay with playing along w fans and embellishing and also intentionally self correcting the image of the friendship when they actually do fight or oops be perfectly fine not hanging out for months? yes ahsvshhd. is the fact that they’re corporate approved yaoi and a guarantee for mass fan engagement somewhat on both their minds when they choose what to share and how to interact sometimes? also yes! but again does that mean they’re not actually friends and it’s a purely cynical evil plot NO

but does a friendship like n0rstappen come along and regularly shock people because it’s quietly been one of the most long running and genuine and openly honest and family-intertwined yet very private friendships out of the entire grid? absolutely and that was me until a year and a half ago. whether it’s seeing P rush into Lando’s arms and treat him like family in a way she doesn’t any other driver or Adam and Cisca reaching out to congratulate Max on the last sprint or the raw bittersweet but ultimately strengthening experience of their clashes last season and Max of all people so urgently needing to make things right with Lando in a way he’s never been with anyone else - something usually tips a fan off into looking at them closer and being like oh! this is the truly unique Lando friendship on the grid! there’s something different that’s private but not secret and therefore fandom at large doesn’t blow it up the way they do other Lando friendships. people loved finding out that Lando was included in the family and close friends birthday party for P from just a couple candid pictures but fandom didn’t erupt into hysterics the way they would other ships bc they don’t do that kind of parasocial exchange with fans

and OBVIOUSLY I’m not at all comparing landoscar to n0rstappen in anything other than Oscar and Max being the most private of drivers who aren’t trying to completely block fans out of their private lives but they’re also not interested in doing what other guys do with their friendships and fan visibility etc. Oscar’s had his old school mates to the MTC to try the sim but none of them share content publicly and we wouldn’t have known apart from an offhand comment from him in a McLaren Shadow video in 2023. he’s the same with Lando and Lando respects and reciprocates. they’re not hiding anything but they’re also just not engaging with us as fans about each other. there’s no bromance shtick - which I LOVE btw but I can also respect friendships that don’t want to do that for us.

so that ends up where fans who aren’t specifically paying attention to those relationships don’t end up receiving as much fan intended PR content and assume the guys they hear about the most are the closest friendships.

which is totally fair !! I’m not expecting anyone to go out of their way for anything they’re not invested in. but completely ruins the landoscar are PR argument when their insistence of them disliking each other or not being friends is bc of PR spin against them and for other friendships.

also just to reiterate from my rb of the video clip: since Lando was the one who complained on camera that Oscar didn’t have a common hobby sport for them to spend time together - immediately followed by Oscar learning padel and saying he played with Lando in Monaco not long after - and then having a private padel tournament in Bahrain and then playing with Ed recently - I’m literally at a loss at people taking this comment seriously like why would he say he wants to hang out with him and then hang out with him …. but not want to ??

and again, if we start ruling out landoscar validity on certain things like Lando’s sarcasm or the media being present or PR involved then that also ruins carland0 and dand0 completely which is obviously not going to work. so it’s much better to just like enjoy the friendships you’re interested in as a fan but also accept that your take is biased and PR absolutely plays into it and none of this is important so just don’t get mad when someone says oh actually Lando’s private life friends confirmed they love Oscar and yes Lando and Oscar hang out socially and travel together and it “means” as much as any other friendship - it won’t mean as much to fans who aren’t into the relationship etc

like if there’s one thing that turns me off of the big name corporate media approved ships that got me into f1 fandom it’s the insanity of competing about strangers friendships but then also being enraged when someone like me ships EVERYONE and can point out that no actually these guys have very similar friendships with multiple drivers but fans selectively rank them above or below based on what they’re fed and how they choose to spin things for rpf like I’m sorry that Lando is friends with half the grid to the same degree and arguably his most emotionally deep friendship isn’t with the most popular yaoi it’s not my fault !! Lando is loved and he cuddles and dines and flirts with many many men exactly the same amount as the others JUST ENJOY IT

but also we already know what Lando looks like w a man who is borderline a domestic partner/husband/boyfriend and no one has ever matched nortrell
