Mr Bossman, how do you feel about the fact that Michael D. Stortion is such a popular and beloved character in the Magnus Archives fandom? Was that the intention when he was being created? Because I certainly do love the Hand Man

Honestly? It was 100% intentional. I told Jonny that we needed a semi-sympathetic monster for the structure of the story and referenced Greed from the original FullMetal Alchemist anime as an example. Someone that people would like as an edgy friend only to be confronted with the reality of their station and flaws and ultimately doubt if they were ever friendly at all. Jonny took that brief and then took Michael (who was already on the cards) and then added the extra elements needed to fit that role for the narrative. I'd love to claim ownership of such a fun character to write and direct for but that's definitely Jonny. it's actually a really good example of how we used to write together. Often I would just deal with stuff at a big-picture base principals kind of way spotting patterns and that and then I would trust Jonny to come up with the most captivating and upsetting way to meet that brief. I find he works best within specific bounds rather than just given a tabula rasa to work with.

It occurred to me today that the Magnus Archives is only 200 episodes long, which means that MAG 6 (the worm sex episode) and MAG 102 (the beetle wife episode) make the series fully 1% bug sex episodes by volume.

after a long debate with my friends, we have come to two conclusions.

1. martin has never smoked weed

2. martin was a big stoner as a teen

which is more accurate in your opinion?

(btw i say he was a stoner)

I suspect he tried it once, convinced himself he was having a "bad trip" then accidentally triggered a real anxiety attack then threw the joint out of the window in a panic at which point the people sharing it with him gave him 'a look' but he wasn't listening because he saw a small dog outside had gone up to the joint, sniffed it and then ate it rendering him inconsoleable for at least an hour bekieving he had accidentally killed a saudage dog.

Or not. What do I know?

We don’t talk enough about how Martin was likely mostly running the institute by himself (cuz Peter probably wasn’t all that helpful, Martin for sure never wants to see a spreadsheet again) while in a depressive episode AND manipulating Peter to make him think he’s on his side. Like holy fuck bro. It pisses me off when people act like he’s dumb because did we listen to the same show??

i’m so, SO excited to share this 17-page comic done by @ehlihr​! this is a scene from one of the earlier chapters of Sight Comes to Mind (written by me and @whitmanic​) where due to a series of unfortunate time-travel-related events, jon and martin end up dealing with the jane prentiss fiasco alone together. some of the dialogue makes less sense out of context, but hopefully it holds up well enough to be legible!  working with elisar on this was incredibly fun and rewarding. getting to see the process of it from start to finish was such an awesome experience, and i couldn’t be happier with how it turned out. this writing project is my baby so having art like THIS of it makes my heart swell! it’s over 900k words (total) right now and looking back on this scene from an earlier chapter just brings me so much joy.
