Indiana Jones saying he doesn’t believe in magic or “supernatural hocus-pocus” in Raiders of the Lost Ark despite having met a literal vampire when he was eighteen in Young Indiana Jones Chronicles has the same energy as Phoenix Wright and Miles Edgeworth being quoted on two separated occasions as not believing in magic despite knowing a woman who can provably summon the dead

take my hand for a moment
your objective from this point on is to survive
the election results are going to take a few days. The world is going to be very tense. I want you to take all the things you like to do to distract yourself and splurge on them. I want you to go eat your favroite foods and spend time with friends. I want you to do what you gotta do to make sure you can make it through the week.
There are people out there who want you to survive. There are people out there who are just as scared as you are.
We'll get through this. We will find a way

Me: we should watch something to take our minds off the election.
Brain: red, white, and royal blue
Me: ..... I do not think that is the help I'm looking for.

"Actually some autistic people make really important contributions to society-" Sure, but many don't, and you really shouldn't have to earn or justify your existence to be considered a person worthy of life.

"How can platonic BDSM be a thing". It's whatever Sam Reich is doing to his friends on Game Changer actually.

All of these are by @mattxiv on Instagram.
Here's to all the shockingly single bachelor uncles or the two very close friends who just happened to be girls and are only living together until one of them finds a man (they lived together for forty two years).

I’m sorry but it’s fucking delusional to act as if prioritizing the actual material consequences of an election over making an abstract ideological point” comes from a position of passive, moderate liberalism. I literally don’t have a guarantee to basic bodily autonomy as an American woman anymore because people didn’t take the threat of Trump presidency seriously enough in 2016. I don’t think democrats are undeserving of criticism either but if you don’t think there’s a significant difference between the parties at this point I have to assume you are not actually informed about the issues and institutions you’re discussing

Look, we joke a lot, but really, "you were born evil, wretched, worse than the scum of the earth, and it took killing a god to make you salvageable, so now you'd better be grateful to that god and thank him 10,000 times a day for it and fill your thoughts with him 24/7 and abide by the letter of his every word, lest you suffer unimaginable torture for all of eternity" is a truly horrendous thing to believe about yourself and other people

people will really try to argue that love and death aren't fundamentally entangled as if they don't ring the same bells for weddings and funerals

I’ve actually written a lot of stuff about this concept, specifically as it pertains to women authors in the Victorian era (that thing I studied in graduate school).
tl;dr: No, [X] male author was not actually a woman after all because “wOmEn CoUlDn’T bE aUtHoRs.” Women authors existed. And their marginalized existence is important to recognize.
I'm getting so sick of major female characters in historical media being incredibly feisty, outspoken and public defenders of women's rights with little to no realistic repercussions. Yes it feels like pandering, yes it's unrealistic and takes me out of the story, yes the dialogue almost always rings false - but beyond all that I think it does such a disservice to the women who lived during those periods. I'm not embarrassed of the women in history who didn't use every chance they had to Stick It To The Man. I'm not ashamed of women who were resigned to or enjoyed their lot in life. They weren't letting the side down by not having and representing modern gender ideals. It says a lot about how you view average ordinary women if the idea of one of your main characters behaving like one makes them seem lame and uninteresting to you.

Nothing gives the same kind of random ego boost like managing to finally clean up your home and making it nice. Like ooh look at me, I'm living like people do, I made myself iced tea and I am eating my snack from a real plate. I got floors and shit.
