Friends?

"I.." Evil X backed up, clearing xer throat. "I don't want to be friends with you."

Wormman's smile stays put, painted in a pain. He looked so hurtfully happy. Mask hiding his tears. "I can respect your decision, my dear sidekick! I can!" His heroic tone faltered in and out, an ugly choked squeak escaping him.

Evil X froze. Xey did not want to be friends since all xey did was hurt friends. Xey were made to hurt those around them. Evil X cared too much for wormman to hurt him. Yet here wormman was, not a friend, hurt. "Wait don't do that."

"Do what?" Wormman paused his walking away with his head held down. Looking back at Evil X like a kicked puppy.

Evil X sighed. "That. That ugly face. The sadness." EX cringed. What xey were trying to say wasn't coming out the way xey wanted it to. Xer helmet hid xer expressions.

Wormman put his cape over his head. Hiccuping. "There you go, now you can't see my face! Sad? Hero's don't get sad,silly! I'm..happy for you..for making your..hard choice!"

"Now you look stupid, you didn't have to do that." Xey took the cape off of Wormman's face, fixing it. "Everyone gets sad. Even hero's. Even villains." EX was rubbing xer thumb on wormman's cape end. Fidgeting. Stimming. "It wasn't a hard choice-"

Choked sobbing escaped wormman. It wasn't a hard choice to get rid of him for xem. His sidekick no longer wanted to be by his side. He was not a good hero. He was not a good friend.

"It wasn't a hard choice to not want to hurt you, I'm sorry I take it back. I take it back. I didn't know you cared this much about such a mean sidekick like me. I thought you'd feel better. I didn't mean to- please don't cry.." EX's tough guy charade broke as soon as xey saw and heard him crying. "I'm sorry."

Wormman shook his head. "You've never hurt me. Until now, but I mean you were always there by my side. Hyping me up, buying my merch, and helping me with my adventures! You didn't have to try to leave just because of something you thought you were doing.. you can ask..you can communicate..please communicate with me. Please. If you take it back are we still friends? If you take it back can we talk?"

Ex kept fidgeting with the cape before it got pulled away.

"Will you join my side?"

"I'm not even a mean sidekick..I'm a villain.."

There was a gasp from wormman. Wormman lightly hit Ex's shoulder covered in netherite armor. "You do not get to hurt my feelings AND hurt your own feelings! You are not a villain. You are not a mean sidekick. You are a great sidekick. One of the best. My favourite sidekick. Or.. were..."

"Am."

Wormman's saddened expression lit up. Dramatically his mood increased. He always had such a quick reaction, like some cartoon. Taking EX's claws into his white gloved hands. Beaming as if he were a beacon. "You are my favourite sidekick."

"...You're my favourite hero." It wasn't manipulation xey used on the hermits. It wasn't a lie either. EX was genuine. "I really am sorry. I assumed..I assumed wrong and took the wrong action instead of..talking to you about it..I hurt you. That was the clear opposite of my intentions..I'm a derp."

"A very silly derp at that!" Wormman was still hurt but happy to have xem back so quickly. "So silly to not have a team meeting over something so important. Team meetings aren't just for bad guys and plans you know. It's for us to come together and collect our thoughts. As a team. We are a team. So we need to think like one. Right?"

"Right..Right! We are a team!"

"We are a team!"

Ex held Wormman's gloved hands tighter and pulled him in for a hug. Apologizing more. Comforting him. "I'll make it up to you. From here on I'll talk to you. No assumptions without questions."

Wormman needed that hug. Melting into it. "Sweets swear it?" A sweets swear was their way of promising. They make sweets for the other or make them with each other so the promise felt more physical. Proving the promise wasn't just some words.

"Sweets swear it." Ex sighed with a chuckle. "Cookies again?"

"Cookies in the shape of horses and chickens please!"

"You mean like animal crackers?"

"Yes but better! Animal cookies!"

"Team meeting for animal cookies all aboard!" Ex lifted wormman up. "Friends?"

"Friends!"
