Gerard is obviously playing a character but what's subtler is that the rest really are too. Their body language and actions tell us SO MUCH about their characters:

During the San Fran execution, Frank looked scared, threatened, shocked. He clamps his hands over his ears. He sees it as a warning. If the Draag government wants you dead, you die, and no other opinions count. He wants to hide from it. In Seattle, he played along with the killing as long as he knew what was coming- but he still plugged his ears. And when he's kidnapped, all he does is thrash aimlessly. He is, perhaps, a coward? (For lack of a better word)

During the same execution, Ray looked devastated, mortified. He held his face in his hands. He sees it as a display of power. There is no changing the will of Draag. He is not threatened, he is saddened. Disappointed. When kidnapped, he keeps playing, and he fights towards Gerard. He is a fighter.

Meanwhile during the execution, Mikey's eyes were fixed on the scene and once it was over he shook his head, much like in Seattle. Nothing has changed for him. He doesn't approve and never has. He is the least shocked of all of them. He doesn't even flinch. He knew Draag would do this. And because he knows, when the kidnappers come, he is prepared to run. When he and Frank whispered while Gerard was on the phone, he was the one who did the talking. He knows what's coming and has a semblance of control because of it. He is a survivor.

They're all playing very very distinct characters with very very distinct personalities. Every stimuli has them reacting in a way that plays into these characters, even when you think they're reacting the same as each other. There's small things. They are part of the lore and they are integral goddammit

Ozzy Osbourne’s death is like the death of a crusty white 3 legged no toothed dog in it’s mid 20s. It’s shocking and heartbreaking, but the shock mostly comes from the fact that it lived so long and through so much bodily strain that you kind of subconsciously assumed it was immortal.
