Mostly because steel cable gets severely weakened by getting bent too hard, I'm not sure it'd be flexible enough for the cams or the actual nock point where the arrow is fitted to the string

contemplating braided kevlar, motorcycle chain, fan belt material, and steel cable (but with specific hinge points built in to support some kind of dedicated nock point with a limit on the bend angle)

I'm writing for some fallout rpg type shenanigans

I want to have a bow and arrow where the bow tension comes from old truck leaf springs and suspension parts, give it a *monumentally* fucking massive draw weight

Bow that can only be drawn by someone wearing power armor and can put a chunk of rebar through an armor plate at 100 yards

I can't figure out what the hell to have it use as a bowstring I need engineering help

Flexibility of the cable at the nock point and around the cams was my exact concern, in tandem with the actual break strength.

a projectile cup or seat would be a great solution, I think that may be what I end up implementing.

I'm thinking of having a crank-operated tensioner that also requires the power armor to operate, so you can relax the spring and make the whole assemblage less likely to explode into spring-powered shrapnel at any given moment when you're not actively using the bow
