We got home today to ecstatic dogs, and I was thrilled to see them. We had a magical time in Mexico, and the staff at @eldoradoresorts could not have been more attentive. Our butler, Jorge Cruz, was exceptional and exceeded our expectations at every turn. Honestly, I wasn't super excited to go on this trip but it was precisely what I needed, and such a treat to spend a week with wonderful, easygoing, and fun friends. Between seasonal winter depression, hormonal fluctuations, bloating, bleeding, and inflammation, and anticipating my hysterectomy in a couple weeks, my head's been in a dark place and the depression was suffocating. I wasn't excited about this trip because I haven't been excited about anything at all, and my motivation to do even the most basic things has been nonexistent. I'm so glad I went! I chose this photo to post because this moment was the happiest I've felt in a long time. It's been years since I've ridden a horse, but my past lessons were helpful, and I had the most wonderful horse named Chili. The guides at @bonanza_mx were also lovely and I especially enjoyed speaking with Tony and Xavier, and will treasure the photos that José took. This excursion rekindled my passion for horses that I'd lost in recent years struggling with illness and fatigue. Depression is no joke, and I'm not suggesting that sunshine holidays or a horseback ride will snap you out of your blues. But for me, this excursion brought me a world of joy and hope, and reminded me of the many things I used to love to do that I've let fall by the wayside recently. I'll have hysterectomy surgery on the 12th, and I am #hopeful that it will resolve so many of the issues that have plagued my abdominal area, from my GI to reproductive organs (buh bye!!) This trip was a kickstart for getting both my physical and mental health on track. I didn't know a beach trip with friends, swimming in cenotes, or a horseback excursion would impact my state of mind so profoundly, but it has! I am eternally grateful for the mental reboot as I face new challenges in the coming days. On vacation, but I can't sleep and miss my dogs. After having the same pet sitter for many years, we have a new person. I'm sure he's fine, but it's hard to leave my babies with someone new. Between worrying about my pups and this pillow suddenly feeling different and uncomfortable tonight, I just can't seem to nod off. Might be time to try again.... 🥱

There's so much beautiful scenery around the resort, we stayed on campus. Today we had little R&R day and just walked the property, which is HUGE! We had a nice lunch at the smoothie bar, and just kicked it on the deck and had a swim up the river pool. The wind is blowing hard, but the temperature is nice. Earlier in the day, we found a pond that's home to a crocodile 🐊 named Frida. I gracefully found a perfect gap in the bougainvillea to observe, then lost my footing and gashed the sclera of my eye and bottom lid on a thorn. Fortunately, I was wearing contacts, so the lens took the worst of the scrape. It sliced in half, but my vision is fine and I just have some scrapes and soreness around the eye. Frida didn't budge...cool crocodile! Can I even call it a trip to Mexico if I don't have some haphazard near-death experience? Based on my history, I don't think so. We'll be doing some horseback riding and a visit to Tulum later in the week. All is well and the weather is beautiful.
