How To Detect & Fix A BMW Coolant Leak In Canoga Park?
There are certain important fluids in your BMW that ensure the high-end car runs smoothly without any issues. One such critical fluid is the coolant that is responsible for preventing the engine from overheating. However, like other vehicles, the BMW is also prone to coolant leaks which can be catastrophic for the car.
There are several signs exhibited by your BMW whenever there is a coolant leak in the vehicle. Here in this article, we will discuss the signs associated with coolant leaks & ways to deal with the issue.
Overheating Engine
Low Levels of Coolant
Illumination Of Warning Light
Sweet-Smelling Scent
Overheating Engine
One of the most common symptoms associated with coolant leaks in BMW is when you experience engine overheating issues. The primary purpose of the coolant is to prevent the engine from overheating as the internal combustion process produces a lot of heat.
The coolant circulates through the engine and absorbs the excess heat produced during the combustion process to maintain the optimal temperature required for the efficient functioning of the engine. However, an inadequate quantity of coolant in your vehicle will not be able to absorb any heat from the engine or its functioning won’t be enough to dissipate all the heat from the engine.
Most of the time inadequate levels of coolant lead to engine overheating in BMW. The overheating of the engine can also be caused due to other factors like low levels of engine oil. Moreover, you might also get to see steam coming from under the hood which signifies that the leaking coolant is coming in contact with the hot engine parts leading to the formation of steam.
Besides that, as it is very difficult to determine from where the coolant is leaking, you must get in touch with a BMW specialist who can use advanced tools to diagnose the source of the coolant leak and take remedial measures to address the problem.
Low Levels of Coolant
The coolant expansion tank must be the first thing that must be inspected whenever you are encountering engine overheating issues as discussed above to make sure that there are adequate levels of coolant present in the vehicle. The expansion tank stores extra coolant so that whenever there is a requirement, the coolant from this reservoir can be used.
If you find that the reservoir is empty, then your car has used all the coolant and it needs to be refiled. Generally, if you happen to find you are filling up the coolant reservoir continuously on a regular basis, then there is a coolant leak somewhere in your vehicle that needs to be identified & fixed quickly.
Illumination of Warning Light
There are numerous warning lights located on the dashboard of your car and if you are driving a recent model of BMW then it comes equipped with a coolant warning light on the dashboard. Whenever the coolant warning light flashes, then it indicates low levels of coolant present in the vehicle & you need to top it off.
The low level of coolant might be caused due to coolant leak in your luxury car. However, if you are driving an older BMW, then in place of the coolant warning light there is the check engine light in your car. A coolant leak in your vehicle will lead to the illumination of the check engine light.
However, the problem with the check engine light is that it can illuminate due to a host of other issues and without the help of a certified mechanic, it won’t be possible to diagnose the root cause of the problem. That is why you must make an appointment with a trusted mechanic so that the problem can be addressed as soon as possible.
Sweet-Smelling Scent
Most of the time when there is a coolant leak in the vehicle you will get to experience a sweet-smelling scent coming from your vehicle. At times, people come across a liquid puddle formed on the ground beneath the vehicle where you have parked it and if the liquid appears green, orange, or pink and has a sweet smell, then it is coolant that has leaked from your vehicle.
In addition to that, while driving your car if you get to experience sweet a smell inside the cabin of your car coming from the AC vents, then it is the coolant that is leaking.
Finally
The above-discussed factors are some of the symptoms associated with a coolant leak in your BMW. Moreover, addressing coolant leaks must be your top priority because prolonging remedial actions can adversely affect the engine and can cause total failure of the engine.

Why Does My Mercedes Only Leak Oil When Parked?
Leakage of oil is not a good sign at all. If you own a car, then you might be knowing that how important is oil for machines. The mechanical parts in machines require lubrication which would make the friction low and allow the machine to work freely. Friction in machines are one of the enemies of performance as it opposes the work done by the machine. So the machine has to use more energy to overcome the friction and work, but in such process, the machine lose energy. A vehicle is a machine which has various mechanical parts and they too require lubrication. Oil provides the lubrication but as it is a fluid, any damage or hole in its system would cause the oil to flow out. In this article, you’ll know what causes the fluid to leak out while Mercedes is parked.
Oil importance and leakage
Oil is very useful for car because it makes the engine to work smoothly, freely. Engine is such an important part which generates power by burning the fuel. Oil lubricates the engine parts, hence the engine has to give a very less effort against the friction while working. So the losses would be very less and the engine would be more efficient, there would be less fuel requirement. You have to top up fuel less which would save your time and money. Oil saves energy and time too.
Oil prevents overheating to some extent. More the friction, more would be the unwanted heat generated when work is done against it. This heat remain in the engine and more and more heat would be produced in the same manner which would overheat the engine. Overheating is highly dangerous because it damages the vital parts of car. Oil is used in every cars, but there are many people that complain that their car is showing low performance, overheating and many other engine issues. So how this is caused while oil is there in your car? Even if your car has oil, such problems would occur if there is leaking of oil or bad oil.
When leakage occurs, the oil stored in the car escapes out. So the oil is wasted, leaving your car out of oil. Engine needs a definite amount of oil for proper lubrication. The leakage of oil can be easily identified by the puddles of oil formed under the car, burning oil smell, gray smoke, etc. But here I’m discussing more about the leakage occurring during the car is parked. While parked, the sign of oil leakage found mostly is the oil puddles at the ground under the car.
What would cause oil to leak out while your Mercedes is parked?
The leakage of oil has to be stopped or else you’ll be the sufferer. But before fixing, you need to know the source of leakage, or which part makes the oil to leak out.
Gaskets are damaged
There are various seals or gaskets present at the engine through which the oil flows. Such gaskets are located at the underneath of car. These are vulnerable to damages as these are exposed to extreme weather conditions, moisture, road debris, dust, etc. So they wear and oil leaks through them.
Leaking oil pan
The oil pan is located at the underneath of car and is an essential components that take part in the supply of oil to engine. These are durable, but get exposed to road debris, punctures and many other things from roads which can damage the oil pan gradually. Damage of the oil pan makes the oil to leak out especially while the car is parked.
Some components not installed properly
Mostly, the oil drain plug located under the car get such issues. It is provided to drain out bad oil. People sometimes forget to install the drain plug properly, so they leave it loose or unaligned which make the oil to flow out while parked.
Leaking valve seals
The oil flows to the various valves present in the engine and camshafts and crankshaft to lubricate them. There is a seal that prevents the oil to leak into the cylinders. Such seals develop cracks and holes which make the oil to go into cylinders so that when the car is again made to run, the engine simply misfires.
Conclusion
By having regular maintenance, you can prevent oil leaks in Mercedes. Immediately take your car for diagnosis at Mercedes service center if you get signs of oil leaks.

‘ABS ESP Inoperative’ what does this Message Mean on My Mercedes?
Cars like Mercedes and other luxury cars usually come with advanced features; some are for comfort, while some are for safety. These safety features are more important as they protect the vehicle as well as the passengers from damage. One of such feature is ABS and ESP. Both of them are vital for car their malfunctioning can give your car various risks and you would get a message on dash - ‘ABS ESP inoperative’. In this article, you will know what this message means.
What is ABS and ESP?
The anti-lock braking system or ABS is a feature which minimizes the stopping distance covered by a vehicle after application of brakes. This stopping distance is the distance that a car runs when the brake is applied till the car comes to stop. So the ABS prevents the locking of the wheels when the brakes are applied hardly.
While ABS works after application of brakes, ESP is fully automatic. The electronic stability program or ESP helps the vehicle in gaining better stability by prevent it from sliding. It engages the brakes of all the wheels. So both the ABS and ESP are brake assistance features. They use various sensors, the electricity. So malfunctioning of any sensors or problems in electrical system can stop the operation of ABS and ESP. Even damaged wheels can also make ABS and ESP failure.
These brake assistant systems use various sensors such as speed sensors, steering wheel angle sensor, rotation sensor, load sensors. The speed sensors are present at the knuckles of wheels; they measure the spinning speed of the wheels. The steering wheel angle sensor checks the direction to which the driver wants to turn the car. The rotation sensor checks if the wheels are rotating freely or sliding sometimes. The load sensor checks the load kept in the car. The load includes the total weight of the passengers and the other goods and luggage.
There are also certain systems which monitor the working of these systems. When the ABS and ESP gets some problem in it then it affects the operation too. Their functioning is monitored and then a warning signs or message is shown on the dash. Sometimes a message pops up on the dashboard saying -’ABS, ESP inoperative’ or ‘ABS, ESP unavailable’, if you get such messages then know that these brake assistance systems are faulty and there is some obstruction in the operation of these systems. If there is issue in these systems then you cannot use their feature and the chances of having accidents increases, your vehicle may also lose some stability. There are many possible reasons behind this issue.
What causes the message to come out?
Low voltage at the battery
ABS wheel speed sensor is bad
Ground terminal is loose
ABS and ESP modules are faulty
Loose battery contacts
Low tire pressure
Wearing of tires
Faulty steering angle sensor
Faulty SAM module
Wheels are misaligned
How to diagnose the problem?
To diagnose the problem, you have to know what causes the malfunctioning of these systems. Before repairing, you have to first get an OBD2 scanner. Sometimes, resetting your car can clear some errors. So you can try restarting your car. Restarting the car clears the errors and when you again switch on your car, you can see that the message and the other related warning signs have also vanished. To restart your car; you have to turn off the ignition switch and take out the key and leave your car for some minutes before again starting the car. If still the message comes up, then you can turn your steering wheel to left and then right while keeping the engine on. You can also repeat this until the message goes off. If still the message shows, then you have to read the trouble codes to identify the exact problem and you can even clear some fault codes which causes error.
1. So first you have to look for the scanner port which is usually on the dashboard. Then the scanner is connected to the port.
2. To turn on the scanner, you have to turn your key to ignition.
3. Then select the control unit in the scanner and go to the ABS and ESP control module.
4. Different fault codes stored in the car computer will be shown on the scanner; you can read them by pressing enter.
5. You can clear any code by going back and selecting clear codes.
Conclusion
Here are some fixes that are DIY and any one owning or using the car can do it. But any other repairs if there is damage in the systems then have to take the help of a professional mechanic.
