Today, I will give myself a day off from thinking.
I will give myself a day off from playing painful scenes of my life over and over again in my head.
I will give myself a day off from wondering what people think about me, figuring out how I could change to please them or how they should change to please me.
I will give myself a day off from trying to control what other people do, what they want, where they are, who they like or do not.
I will give myself a day off from playing God or playing the devil.
I will give myself a day off from ruminating on things I cannot control, things that only bring me down and lead me into spirals of negativity.
I will give myself a day off from self-improvement, and from self-flagellation.
I will let myself rest today
and not try to work my life out.
I will let myself breathe today
and actually experience my breath.
I will sense the ground beneath my feet today, notice the light and the shade of the day and forget all the things that take me out of my living.
I will give myself a day off from the self-blame and the self-hate and the self-aggrandizement, from the thousand things that aren’t real, from the million things that haven't happened yet.
At last, I will give myself a day.

... I don't know how I feel about this. That's what makes it interesting

Life should not be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside in a cloud of smoke, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming "Wow! What a Ride!

She realized that there were a lot of songs about cheating and unreliability and all of those things, but very few about shame. Feeling ashamed of yourself for letting someone think that they were better than you.
