part 1 // part 2 // part 3?
Tumblr media
"i've done all i can do for you, but there are no exceptions. not even you, gojo."
satoru leaned back into the cushions of his chair, relaxing his arms as they folded comfortably across his chest. his stare never once broke from the eyes behind rectangular sunglasses. if anyone walked into the office, they would think he was oddly casual despite his situation.
and that would be the truth. the golden plaque gleaming on the wall from last year’s championship spoke for his contributions. satoru was not one to be intimidated when he knew his worth. he knew he was the exception.
"you're aware that you should've been on suspension from any games and practices up until now?"
"yeah? why was i not, yaga?" satoru quizzed back.
"coach yaga," he corrected. "because i've been doing all i can to keep your ass on the court. just because you can ball doesn’t mean you always deserve to. if your grade drops any lower, you're done."
that was a new one.
regardless of the past four times satoru was called into this very room with the same threat of "raise your grades or else", he hasn't toed this close to the line yet.
"whadd'ya mean i'm done? they're not just gonna-"
yaga sighed. "you'll be kicked off the team, and your scholarship will be revoked."
satoru stood up straight.
"as of now, you'll be on suspension. no training, games, nothing," coach stated. "you can..."
"...only help yourself now, is what he said," satoru scoffed. he was currently splayed across his shared couch, half-empty soda can in hand as he ran down the whole situation. "what the hell'm i supposed to do?"
"maybe you should look for a tutor again," shoko suggested, perched on the windowsill as she let her cigarette smoke flow out.
satoru sighed dramatically. "i'm not gonna pay some random. last time i tried they treated it like a date and never even looked at my books." he grimaced at the memory.
"do you even know anyone smart?" suguru poked, earning an eye roll from the other.
"of course i do," he replied, "a bunch of our teammates can handle themselves. they're just… busy with the practices i should be going to. is there any chance you guys could help at all?"
suguru and shoko shared a look. "honestly, i'm not much better off than you are. i still have training, and even though yaga’s not on my ass as much as yours, i’m not sure if i’ll be much help."
satoru turned to the brunette with a pleading expression- to which she let out a short, airy laugh. β€œyou should know i cheated on almost all my exams. plus they’re mostly for pre-med.”
he deflated, lip jutting out in a pout as he stared dejectedly at the ceiling. he wracked his brain for a solution, for someone who was both smarter and had enough time to help him. but for someone as well-known as satoru, his social circle was mostly limited to his team and the other two in the room. college basketball did not leave much time for socializing.
"sorry to break it off, but i agreed to give yuji a ride to practice, and he's all the way at the dorms," suguru cut the silence as he rose to his feet.
"he doesn't have a car?" satoru queried. he would rather have his friends here to brainstorm answers to his problem.
suguru chuckled, "no, he doesn't have a license either. told me he's failed his test twice already."
satoru let out a little snort at that; he could vividly picture the freshman swerving a car recklessly. "alright, i'll let you go i guess," he responded. "you still gotta help me later, though."
"i think i'll head out, too," shoko announced, putting out the rest of her cig.
"you too?" satoru groaned.
she nodded. "i've got to meet up with my friend downtown."
"any chance they're smart? or know anyone smart? do i know them?" he questioned, a hopeful tilt in his voice.
she stared off in thought, letting out a huff before answering. "she's pretty smart. not like a nerd, but she's better than me," she paused. "her schedule's a bit... unpredictable, though. i think you've met her a couple times... probably at nobara's party."
satoru perked up. "that's good enough for me."

you sipped your drink as your phone buzzed against the smooth surface of the table. you felt your heart jump a little at the implication of the sound, picking up your device to check the notification.
but your spirits sagged a little when it was, in fact, not who you wanted it to be. instead, it was an unknown number, asking if it was you.
your eyebrows quirked, intrigued. shoko had left just previously to use the restroom, leaving you alone temporarily at the cafe table. you typed back a response.
you yes, this is her who is this?
XXX-XXX-XXXX gojo satoru
you blinked in surprise. gojo satoru? the newest basketball phenom, the one who girls and guys alike swooned over? yeah, there was no way he was texting you. you're not even sure if you've had a proper conversation with him before. maybe shoko had been gone for too long and decided to play with you.
you very funny who is this actually? and how'd you get my number?
XXX-XXX-XXXX wdym shoko gave me ur number
okay, now it was obvious. you were about to march over to the bathroom to confront your friend when she plopped down in her seat across from you.
"funny, shoko. i know it's you, though. when did you get a second number?" you asked.
she gave you a quizzical stare. "what the hell are you talking about?"
you rolled your eyes and faced your screen at her. she furrowed her eyebrows, before they relaxed as she laughed, "nope, that's satoru."
"you're joking," you gaped. "why would he text me? and why did you give him my number?" she shrugged and turned your phone back to you.
XXX-XXX-XXXX could u do me a favor
you sighed, giving shoko a last look before you replied.
you depends what it is, but try me
gojo satoru do you tutor
your fingers paused as confusion coursed your brain. shoko was indifferent, scrolling on her own cell and popping a french fry in her mouth.
you not really... i mean i'll help my friends out with studying but it's not like i get paid
gojo satoru ok perfect youll get paid
you you want me to tutor you?
gojo satoru yeah
you were boggled at his straight-forwardness. gojo was not known for being serious, about anything, really. maybe the exception was basketball, but even then...
you if you don't mind me asking why do you need a tutor? also why me specifically, i'm not the greatest student?
gojo satoru uhh id appreciate it if u didnt let it out the bag
you sure, i wont
gojo satoru ill get kicked off the team if i dont get grades up ur like the last person ik who can prob help
your confusion only grew more. how could he be doing so bad he was threatened his roster spot? and how were you the last person when he was ridiculously popular? you were certain people would help him for free, as long as they were in his proximity.
you as flattered as i am, i doubt that
gojo satoru yeah well its the truth so can u help me out
you flipped your phone around, sliding it over to shoko. "what do you think?" you sighed.
she scrolled over the texts. "i mean, he's my friend. and he's kinda on his last straw. and he usually doesn't text so bluntly. i'm not saying i'm pressuring you to say yes, but he does have money," she answered seriously. you laughed, and she continued, "it would really help him. maybe check it off with your boyfriend, first?"
your eyes fell to the glowing screen, staring at the upside-down messages. "it'll be fine. it's not like he texts me enough to care about it anyway," you admitted, slumping back in your chair. she scooted the phone back to you.
you sure, why not unfortunately i can't let the team lose their previous freshman of the year
gojo satoru thats an accomplishment btw but thank u this means a lot
you ofc, its not a huge deal to me
you sighed. not exactly how you planned this outing with shoko to end up. but maybe tutoring could help you with your own studying while you review topics with him. with gojo satoru.

"why are you here?"
"to see a friend."
back resting on the tree trunk, you eyed the man standing before you, a small pit of anger beginning to swirl in your gut. the august breeze swayed his dark locks, cast in the golden rays of the sun. under normal circumstances, you would've been happy to see him- charmed, even. he no longer looked the same. it was a bittersweet taste, to see him healthier, brighter, but for the wrong reasons.
"new hairstyle?" you remarked.
suguru chuckled, "i felt like it needed a change."
"i guess you felt that way about a lot of things." a sigh.
you flipped open your phone, dialing in a number, and it began to ring.
"there's no need to call anyone over, i was going to head to shoko after this," he spoke, leaning down to sit on the grass across from you.
after this, because he had come out of his way to meet you. as a friend.
a muffled voice called out from your device, "hello?"
"oh, satoru. he's here, but... he'll go to shoko, in shinjuku. she'll probably call you too."
"what, where ar-" you shut your phone, stowing it back in your pocket.
suguru rested his chin on his hand, casual, observing you. he's always liked doing this, just watching you as you do anything. it could get problematic, really.
"is there anything you want to say?" you asked. you knew if you took too long, satoru would come to you, and you didn't want to stick around for that. precisely why you and shoko were lookouts to hand him over to the strongest.
he hummed, smiling like it was an average summer day. "you've heard all i've done, then?"
you grimaced, "yes, unfortunately. i..." you trailed off. clearing your throat, you repeated your earlier question, "why are you here?"
"you know, i thought you would be more mad. just a little," he dodged your query, again.
you scoffed. "were you hoping for something here? from your friend?" you tried to steel your face as you crossed your arms, but the sound of rhythmic shuffling from the grass under your tapping foot said it all to him.
he could read you like an open book. it didn't matter what would happen, what would change, because he would always be able to tell with you.
"well, i'd be lying if i said i wasn't," he admitted. "i hoped that you hadn't heard anything yet, but i knew that was unlikely."
"what, so you could preach to me your ideals?"
"maybe. but i knew that it would be a stretch for you to believe in anything. especially you."
you narrowed your eyes. "what's that supposed to mean?"
"you know what it means. you're so... you. you're human," he explained.
and you're not? you wanted to say. but he kept going.
"i know you threw yourself into mission after mission after we.. failed. you left, satoru became the strongest, and i found my own path," he continued, "but i know that there is nothing you can say to turn me away from it, just as much as i can do nothing to take you with me."
the chirping of a couple of birds, the crunch of street gravel as cars passed over, the rustle of branches in the wind filled the gap of silence as you sat in the shade, him in the sun.
"suguru, you are human."
his gaze locked with yours. the same, sharpest eyes that held the softest smile you've ever known.
"i know you are undoubtedly human because i've seen it. when you knew satoru held his infinity for days on end in okinawa. when you carry a lighter for shoko even though you don't smoke. when you-" swallowing thickly at the sensation of tears pricking the corners of your eyes, "when you would buy haibara a drink from the vending machine after his mission."
he closed his eyes for a moment, a second too long.
"and all those moments, and so much more. you know, i really lo-" you paused, "i really liked those times, with you."
and he smiled, again. the same stupid smile that could melt away your tears, the same one that could start them all over again.
and you couldn't hear the city ambience anymore. just the sound of the beating of two hearts that longed to be together, but are forced to remain on their own. never parting because they never got close enough to join in the first place.
" ..in another life, i would really just like to be human again, with you."

"first day"
fluff, happy fushiguro family, slice of life, megs' first day of school send-off
Synopsis: you've been dating toji for a while now and megumi subconsciously calls you mom for the first time on his way out the door
to sum it up: you adore the little family you've come to be a part of
WC: 1,701
Warning(s): none
Tumblr media Tumblr media
"Megs!" you call out, standing by the front door awaiting the dark-haired boy's arrival. He soon shuffles around the corner from his room, throwing a bag over his shoulder with a tired expression on his face.
His father turns to watch him walk in, crossing his arms as he leans against the counter. "The hell were you doing in there that took you so long?"
"Nothing," Megumi grumbles, moving to brush past the two of you to rush to the door. "I just wanted to look presentable, that's all."
"So you took thirty minutes to get ready?" Toji quirks a brow.
"Believe it or not, dad, some would say that's not enough time to get ready in the morning."
"Not at all, actually," you agree.
Toji tugs the corner of his mouth in judgment. " Well, you should know," he says to you. "You spend at least ten years in the bathroom when we have somewhere to go."
You scoff, rolling your eyes. "That's such an overreaction. I never take any longer than an hour." Megumi and his father exchange knowing looks and you place your hand on your hip. "What?"
"Don't worry baby," Toji assures you. "It's okay to be in denial."
"We've timed it before. The last time we all went out to dinner as a family, you took two and a half hours to get dressed," Megumi adds.
"That's only because I had to shower and pick out an outfit then do my hair and makeup," you defend.
"Isn't that a little overkill? It takes me half that time to shower, get dressed, eat breakfast, and get some homework done."
"Whatever. Your sister would understand," you sigh.
"Unfortunately, she may be worse than you."
"Women," Toji tsks. You slap his bicep and he pretends to flinch, smirking down at you playfully. "Ouch."
"Alright, well, I'm ready now. I don't wanna be late," the sixteen year old says, turning back to reach for the door handle.
"Ah ah ah, wait!" you stop him. "You're not going anywhere without me getting a good look at you. Turn around, I wanna see how the uniform fits."
Megumi lowers his head and complies, turning back around stiffly for you to admire him. You press your hand to your lips to conceal your smile, eyes gleaming with pride as you look over the sharp navy jacket and pants he adorns.
"Awwww," you coo. "It fits perfectly! How does it feel?"
"Pretty good," Megumi nods, moving his arm around slightly to show his mobility in the fabric. "It's comfortable too. It shouldn't be a problem during missions."
"I still can't believe how quickly time has gone by," you muse. "You're already going into your first year at Jujutsu High! Are you excited?"
"You better be," Toji grunts. "Your uncle Gojo hasn't gotten off my ass about your enrollment for years. At least now, he'll finally shut up."
"I still don't understand why I have to have him as a teacher. He's such a moron, I doubt he'll teach us anything useful," Megumi mumbles.
"Moron or not, he's the strongest sorcerer of the modern age and he's helped out so much. I'm sure he'll be able to give you a good experience," you say positively.
"We talkin' about the same Gojo here? The one who trashed my house playing tag with Megumi and the dogs in the living room?" Toji points out and his son grits his teeth at the memory.
"Oh come on, Satoru was like twenty one back then. I can only imagine the crazy shit you've with the kids when you were raising them," you tease.
"You don't even want to know," Megumi exhales.
"Please, you came out just fine, didn’t ya?” Toji says, reaching out his hand to ruffle at Megumi's spiky hair. The teen recoils, craning his head away and shielding himself with his arm.
"Quit it. I'm not five anymore."
"Yeah, yeah, yeah. You're all grown up now, I know. Gonna be a first-grade sorcerer before I can even blink an eye."
"Who said that I would be first grade? I'm only a first year."
"Yeah, and look at who your pops is," Toji grins. "Plus, you got an advantage that I never had. You'll do just fine."
Megumi hums indifferently, doubting himself momentarily but accepting the words nonetheless. "Alright, are we ready?"
"No, not yet!" you pull out your phone quickly and open the camera. "I need to get pictures."
The blue-eyed boy slumps. "(Y/n), I gotta go."
"I know, I know, just a few," you promise, holding your camera up to capture his awkward figure in the frame. "Okay, smile."
Megumi doesn't, and of course you don't actually expect him to. Instead, he calmly stares at the camera with his arms at his sides, unsure of what to do with themselves. Toji moves to stand behind you, leaning down to take a peak at the million pictures you're snapping.
"Toji, go stand with him so I can get one with the both of you."
The two groan simultaneously. "Doll, can we just focus on gettin' the kid to school?"
"It's fine. His stuff is already moved into his dorm. We have time."
"But-"
"Shut up and go stand with your son, now," you glare firmly up at the green-eyed man and he huffs.
"Yes, ma'am."
Toji raises a hand to his hip and tilts his head boredly as he stands beside Megumi, the two of them sharing the exact same blank stare as they look into the camera. You squeal happily. "You two are so cuteee!"
"We done, now?"
"No, I wanna get one more with Megs, and then I'm good." The boys give you a look, but you wave them off. "I mean it! Gosh, here Toji. Take our picture."
Toji obliges, grabbing your phone from your hand as you rush over to the tall boy. His expression melts into serenity as you place your hands on his shoulders and lean your head against his arm, smiling widely at the camera as a hint of a smile touches Megumi's lips.
Toji's heart warms at the sight, watching the way his son grows comfortable in your presence. The picture of the two of you looks so natural t to him like you are meant to be a part of his family, which he knows you are.
He snaps the photo and nods. "Got it."
You exhale, turning to face Megumi. You brush your hands over his shoulders to straighten his jacket, ridding it of any lint and wrinkles. "Okay, Megumi, please remember to be safe."
"I know. I will," he nods.
"And don't be too reckless when it comes to training."
"I won't."
"And try to make friends. I know how easy it is for you to push others away."
"I'll try."
You press your lips together with a final sigh, looking over Megumi's face warmly. You wrap your arms safely around him into a hug, your emotions getting the best of you. You have spent the past year caring for Megumi like your own, and watching him head off to achieve his goals makes your heart swell with joy and fear all the same.
"Text me or your father or Tsumiki if you need anything. Anything at all," you tell him. He returns your hug gently.
"Okay," he chuckles lightly and you pull away. "Don't worry, I'll be fine."
"...I know you will..." you pout. "Okay, I'll let you go. Good luck. I hope you have an amazing first day. I'll see you at the end of the week, yeah?"
"Mhm. I'll call you to let you know how the day went later."
"Please do."
Toji hands you back your phone and walks toward the door with Megumi. "Let's get a move on," he says. He leans over quickly to peck your lips farewell. "I'll be back in a few."
"Don't speed, Toji."
"Speeding gets you places quicker," he winks and you suck your teeth disapprovingly. Megumi opens the door, his dad gripping the frame.
"Bye, boys. Stay out of trouble," you wave, eyes glassy as you watch Megumi walk out.
"See ya, doll."
"Bye, mum."
The three of you freeze the second the words hit the air, everyone stilling in their tracks.
You feel your heart burst as overwhelming happiness consumes you. Megumi keeps his face forward, hiding his reddening cheeks as he processes what he has just said. Toji stares at the back of his son's head, eyes wide, before he turns to look at you to find your shocked, giddy face.
You don't have any time to reply when Megumi clears his throat suddenly, sweat dotting his forehead, and he walks rigidly out of the house and swiftly down the hall without looking back.
Toji stays behind, keeping an eye on you when you look up at him, stunned. "Did he just...?" you murmur.
"Yep."
Your eyes immediately well with tears and your lips wobble, your hands flying over your mouth. "He sees me as his mom?" you whisper.
Toji chuckles, ducking down to you with his hand still gripping the door. "Of course he does. He's always adored you. Him and Tsumiki."
"I'm gonna cry."
The assassin chuckles softly, pressing his thumb to the corner of your eye gently. "You're already cryin.'"
"Shut up," you sniff. "God, I love those kids so much. I just wanna give him all the hugs in the world."
"And you'll be able to. There isn't a better woman on this planet to be there for the kids," he kisses your cheek. "That's why I plan t'marry you someday."
"Fuck you, Toj. You're gonna make me cry even more."
"Sorry, baby. Can't help talkin' about it," he leans back to the doorway. "Let me get the kid squared away and make sure he's not dyin' of embarrassment, then I'll be back to talk to ya about makin' this official."
"You're being for real?"
"Of course I am."
You lower your hands and beam. "Tell Megumi I love him and get back here soon."
"I will," he hums. "But I thought you said no speeding?"
"Just- make sure the two of you at least get to the school in one peace."
He smirks. "Will do, doll."

" ..in another life, i would really just like to be human again, with you."

you saw him first. it had always been that way, your perceptiveness betraying you. a quick run to the store for some painkillers after you popped the last couple for a migraine, left you frozen in place at the sight of the ash blonde. your awareness heightened at the fact you were in a giant, beat-up hoodie with mismatched socks, your hair frizzy and gave the impression that you were hungover. and suddenly toughing through a headache at home didn't seem so bad right now.
katsuki was scanning over the jars of protein powder. his hand reached for the one with clean white packaging and a simple black font. the one he always liked. but it faltered, retreating, skipping over to one with a blue label.
since when did he like blue?
your head was throbbing and waves of tears threatened to form at your eyes, but you knew it wasn't from the pain.
he turned around, and all you could do was face the hopelessness of his gaze locking with yours. with him seeing firsthand the look on your face that would crack open until your heart shattered all over the tiled floor.
but it never happened. he never even looked your way.
"kacchan, did you find anything?"
kacchan? but it wasn't izuku's voice..
"i told ya to stop callin' me that," katsuki grumbled.
"i know, but it's so cute! i can't help it after deku used it for you!"
you clutched your bottle of advil. her clothes sat just right. her hair was what you spent two hours in front of the mirror with an iron for. she had eyes so blue it made the ocean pale.
was that why? was she why you liked blue now?
"oh!" she gasped, "is that the powder i talked about?"
"yeah, but," he sighed, "it's shit and i'm not gettin' it."
"what! how is it bad?" she exclaimed.
"the macros are terrible. i'm gettin' my usual."
you let out a breath you didn't know you were holding.
"you're no fun," she scoffed, "we need to get some gluten-free snacks, can you come?"
there was a pause, before he said, "nah, i don't eat that crap, i needa check somethin' first." the girl blinked at the bluntness, but shook it off and walked down the aisle.
"need somethin'?"
your heart skipped a beat.
piercing eyes of ruby met yours, the same as they always were. something that took years to read, always changing, always something behind the enchanting hue.
"no-" you whispered, mouth dry. "no," you repeated, clearly this time, "i was just on my way to checkout."
"checkout's the other way if ya didn't know."
your face burned red, but you steeled your gaze as best as you could and nodded, turning away.
"she's an intern, by the way." you stopped.
"what?"
"she's an intern, third-year. but she's not tryna be a sidekick, she's aiming for personal assistant. but i'm not picking her up- too chatty."
you swallowed, "okay, and?"
"just thought you wanted to know," he spoke, softly, as he reshelved the jar. "do you.. have another brand i can try?"
you stared at him, and you sighed. as you stopped at his side, you gazed over the rows of containers. "why didn't you like this one?" you gestured to the one he just placed on the rack.
"the macros were fine... i just don't like blue."
you let a laugh slip out, and a warmth budded in your chest, an all familiar feeling.
the pain of your migraine dulled as the pains of the past were slowly, carefully, starting to be stitched up. because you and katsuki were hunched over the protein powder, just like you were all those years ago. and for some reason it brought a sense of peace that you never thought the sight of him would bring again.
