The Dusty Desert Photos 1/3 I wanted to share this comment I made to @miguelcandela. It talks about why I find photography so important, what I'm doing in it and why it's so important new photographers start producing important work. Yeah, true dat. I photographed in a time before instagram and I was actually able to perfect MY art. Sadly a lot of newer photographers are growing up in photography in a culture where they are seeing other people's work and are trying to mimic that instead of developing their voice. It's empty and you can't be satisfied doing that for long. Instead they might just give up and that's not what we want. But too many people are taking a picture for the sake of the picture. I just don't think that says much and for that reason it's not memorable or worth my time. I feel bad that I feel so strongly about this because photography is a diverse medium and people get out of it different things but I feel so strongly that a photo has to tell a story and reveal something about the person, place or thing that's being photographed. If it's to be worth more than a picture on someone's wall or in this age, feed, it has to tell us about the time in history if has been taken in. I think great art is always a historic document that expresses and reflects the time. The farmer paintings of the I don't remember what time period were the beginning of that. Showing the farmers and the peasants struggle inspired the ideas of democracy in Europe (at Culinary Workers Union Local 226)
