The Struggle of a Young Man: A Family’s Struggle for Survival in the Grieving Reality of Gaza In the face of this unimaginable horror and destruction, Mohammed Al-Arja’s call is a painful reflection of the daily horrors experienced by countless families in Gaza.

His story paints a grim picture of survival under siege – his family of nine, including children, the elderly, an amputee father, a diabetic woman and a diabetic child, are trapped in an unforgiving reality without access to basic necessities such as food, medicine and safety.

Mohammed’s mission is simple but urgent: to evacuate his loved ones to a place in Gaza where they can live without the constant fear of death. Unfortunately, there is no safe place in Gaza.

The streets of Gaza, filled with rubble and echoes of violence, have become a cage from which Mohammed is desperately trying to free his family. Their suffering is not isolated. It is part of a collective trauma, but in Mohammed’s raw and emotional voice, Mohammed and his family consider themselves lucky if they can find one meal a day, usually at lunchtime, and often just a simple bowl of lentil soup.

Mohamed shares the heartbreaking reality of caring for his parents amidst the genocide, one of whom suffers from diabetes. Months earlier, his father, Baba, was tragically shot and killed while on duty as a paramedic. The pain of watching his father’s life slip away in such despair is an unimaginable burden, but he had no way of giving up, as his entire family relies on him and his brother.

A crumbling medical system, decimated by the ongoing genocide, means that the basic healthcare they need is non-existent. Imagine a child crying from hunger or an elderly woman shivering with illness, unable to receive treatment because hospitals have been bombed or medications are scarce. This is no exaggeration, it is Mohammed’s daily reality. Mohammed is appealing to our community for help – not just to secure funds but to reignite hope in a place where hope has long been extinguished. He is currently living in a makeshift tent next to a dumping ground, along with dozens of families in similar circumstances. His appeal is not just a fundraiser; it is a lifeline, an urgent plea for compassion and humanity from those who can afford to give. No human being should wake up every day wondering if they will make it through the night, especially children. Yet this is the sad routine that Mohammed’s family and so many others caught up in the ongoing genocide in Gaza live. With every donation, Mohammed is one step closer to securing a future for his loved ones, leading them out of the shadow of death and into survival and hope.
