Those times when you open a file containing your latest chapter that you've been working quite diligently on for the last week and a bit after neglecting it for a fair bit longer because life is busy and stressful with every intention of completing it shortly and are about to buckle down and write toward the finish line ... only to discover that somehow the last time you wrote nothing saved and you were so pleased with it and now it's gone and the wind has gone out of your sails and you feel like the university is conspiring against you because it's not like you have a lot of time to begin with and now you have to WRITE THE BLOODY THING ALL OVER AGAIN.
Yeah.That.

Hello! I have just spent the last two weeks doing nothing at all but reading your incredible series. I have been floored by the interesting storyline, but more than anything by how perfectly you have captured each character. So many times I have stopped reading just to think “how PERFECT” at a piece of dialogue, an interaction, or just an observation in this story. Thank you, for this awesome piece!!! I am extremely hopeful there will be more to come, are you planning another installment?
Yes indeed. I'm finishing up a different writing project, which will actually be off my plate in just a couple more days, and then I'll be returning to this story. I've drafted over half the next chapter already and I know precisely what the remainder of the story will be, so it should be fairly smooth writing. I know I have these awful gaps between posting chapters, but that won't last much longer. This story is nearly at its end.

My poor John.
John's trauma and the aftermath.
I am currently reading part two of the Fallen series by @engazed , and I needed to do something with my emotions.
My thoughts are with John all the time...
One of the best ff series ever!
I hope you like the results of my imagination.

Oh look, I am back again already. Because I finished reading The Grating Roar last night. Just casually reading the last 50k words as if I don't have a real life with responsibilities and obligations. Sleep is overrated. Truth is, I just couldn't stop reading until I reached the end. I had to know what happened to poor John and Sherlock. So, I've read 260k words in about a week, which is like lightspeed for me. 🙂
While the first part of the story was difficult to put down because it was so captivating and intriguing, it was nearly impossible to do that with the 2nd half. What a journey, a rollercoaster of emotions. I was angry and sad, frustrated and outraged many times, but also happy and delighted and excited and deeply moved. Thank you for putting me through all this. I wish John could have been spared all the abuse and trauma and exploitation and all the other bad things that happened to him, but then he probably never would have met Sherlock who tried so hard to put John back together and give him a "good" life (as far as it is possible in that system). They've both come so far in The Grating Roar, it's extraordinary!
And imagine my joy when I read "End of Book 1"! It can only mean one thing: there will be more?!? 😯
Well, of course there are so many things left to tell, but the ending as it is, is hopeful enough. As someone who usually hates dislikes open endings, I love how you ended things here. It simply works. It gives enough closure and hope to make it work. It's perfect. I would be okay if you never write another word in this universe again. But I want more. I crave more. (No pressure, of course. 😉)
Thanks again for writing this incredible story! 💖 I wish I was better in expressing how much The Grating Roar touched me, but I am no writer. Just know that I usually don't go into people's ask boxes and leave long, sappy messages. I've done that twice to you now. 😇
Ps: in case anyone asks why my eyes are so a little bit red today: could be the lack of sleep or the amount of crying (sad AND happy tears). It's a combination of both, actually. 😅
I think this got buried in my inbox, but I don't know because Tumblr doesn't leave dates on things?
Thank you for this amazing note and for taking the time to write it. That means the world to me, it truly does.

Sorry to bother you, but a fellow Sherlock fan suggested the Fallen series, and I have to tell you how absolutely amazing it is.
She also suggested The Grating Roar, and it is, of course, the very next thing on my list.
Ten days is book worthy, and a novel like psychological thriller that deserves all the praise.
And I know what I'm talking about, because I am a librarian.
Besides the fact that your writing provides excellent quality and details that will follow you in your mind for weeks, you also focus on John, a fact that is something that makes me as a huge John and Freeman fan incredibly happy.
Writers like you keeping the fandom alive and lead us always back to Baker Street.
Thank you!
If there us a chance to get tagged in your posts and if links here, please do!!
All the very best and love from

This is no bother at all! I'm especially chuffed to receive such accolades from a librarian. What a fantastic profession. I often say to myself, 'In another life...'
I hope you enjoy The Grating Roar.
Very warmly,
Engazed

I love this poster! Is this new? Have I seen it before? I think it's new, and it's lovely. Thank you, @meandhisjohn!
Finished "Ten Days" by @engazed
One of the best stories I have ever read.
It's a psychological thriller of the highest level!
Thank you to @free-martinis and
@safedistancefrombeingsmart
for the rec and thanks to @dmellieon for taking care of me during the reading.

Hey
I feel so nostalgic for TGR. It had all the requirements to become a wonderful saga like the Fallen series. But since I know that bringing us a single chapter takes a lot of work and dedication, I was wondering if you had more or less an idea of when you will bring us the second part of TGR. And above all, do you plan to do it before or after the end of the Fallen series?
I know exactly how the next book of TGR will start, scene for scene, chapter for chapter. I have written so many notes and detailed so many scenes, and I'm really excited to return to that universe.
I'm going to finish The Fallen first. I'm very, very close. Only two chapters to go (and an epilogue). They may be quite long chapters, but hey. That's how I roll. But then I'll turn my attention back to that messed-up world of hosts and wards and see if we can't do something about that.

Someone once said that Sherlock hugged John the way John hugged Sherlock at his wedding. It's the only hug Sherlock has received (remembers?) and wanted to do it right to comfort John. Sherlock saved him and John hugging to his mind palace, Sherlock cherished that moment between them. Hands on the back of neck, arm wrapped around.

Good evening, friend (where I am).
Oh, there are so many great fics out there! I should keep better lists of what I've read. Of what springs to mind, I quite enjoyed (Never) Turn Your Back to the Sea by DiscordantWords and The Vapor Variant by 88thParallel.
I welcome any followers to add to this list!

Hi! I am the last anon you published. I have read the grating roar too now and I just have to say the same about it. Amazing piece even with all its darkness in it. I stayed up wayyy past bedtime to finish it because I couldn't put it down. I look forward to read the rest of the story!!
You're too kind! I have a very special place in my heart for TGR and have even considered what it would take to revamp it as original fiction and self-publish. But I don't know if I can take this story away from Sherlock and John. I do look forward to bring you part 2.

I just read through the fallen series and my mind is blown away at all the riddles and case solving and how well thought out it is. I sat on the edge of my seat, I cried, I laughed, I cried some more. This is,even with its heavy topic considering John, a really really amazing fanfic. The series is one of my favorites and I am looking forward to see how it all comes to an end, even if I have to wait years because I know it will be worth it. Thank you for writing this masterpiece.
Thank you very much for this lovely compliment! I'm so pleased you've enjoyed the story to this point, and I hope to bring us to a satisfying conclusion soon!

i’m reading through 10 days and slash man all over again- as they’re maybe my favorite piece of work i’ve ever come across. this might be my third or fourth time, and they’re just as good as the first. i just wanted to let you know you still have people going back through and admiring your work, it’s fantastic 💜 hope you are well and dandy, and am excited to read through blackbird fly with the first two stories fresh in my noggin.
Thank you so very much, my friend. I am blessed to have people like you read my work! You give me reasons to keep writing, despite setbacks and disappointments. Both Ten Days and The Slash Man are quite old now, as far as Sherlock fanfic goes, so I am very touched to hear that people still read and enjoy them! The next chapter is not far from being posted.
