As of right now our plans are to go ahead with Season 11 of Perfect Pairs Podcast.

That might change depending on cast announcements and/or what the “new concept” is for the show.

If they bring a lot of questionable people on or tow a decidedly political bent as they have done before it may be time to leave the show in the dust.

Rest assured, we will inform everyone via a special episode as well as on here and on Twitter if that happens.

Yes. We did. An oversight. A big one. We aren’t perfect and we both apologize as he was a very integral character and Mr. DelArco did a phenomenal job of taking what amounted to a bit part in two TNG episodes and creating a fully fleshed out character from it.

Maybe u should be less concerned if they’re gay and labeling them instead of just accepting that anyone can love anyone regardless of gender or absence of gender. seems pretty tone deaf of you honestly. Oh what about Hugh?

You know what anon? You’re absolutely correct. There’s no way to avoid responding to this question (and I did think about it if I’m being honest here). But if you’ll let me expand upon this briefly:

I have no valid defense nor do I plan to give excuses for it.

The best I could muster up would likely be that I am a product of mid-late 1990’s and early 2000’s tv programming. I am used to the tags. “Is he/she gay?” ended up finding its way into a lot of shows and though I can’t recall a specific answer if you’re a fan of Friends that show is problematic as heck especially in the earlier seasons. People defined characters in terms of their sexuality as much as anything else. Even when it wasn’t directly intended.

Sure there are a ton of fans who love shipping Janeway and Seven but the intent of Seven as originally written was to appeal to the 18-24 male audience (later on T’Pol on Enterprise would be in a form fitting catsuit for precisely the same reasons). Seven ended up with Chakotay but The Doctor pined for her. Harry Kim was even found to be well...admiring her from afar.

Now if that show was made today it’d absolutely be different but it’s very hard to leave behind the way you enjoyed pretty much every Star Trek show until Discovery.

Now...don’t get me wrong here I’m not saying that as an excuse it was merely the best one I could muster up if someone asked me for one.

The truth is you’re absolutely correct and I am not and I didn’t see it. My tone deafness is on display for everyone to see now until the audio file degrades into mush. I will certainly try and do better and see things from a more neutral realm. You are also accurate that love is love and anyone is capable of loving anyone else. Love is after all the very essence of the finale. The love unsaid between Jean-Luc and the people in his life, and more importantly Data.

Love also doesn’t have to be romantic love, it can be platonic, brotherly, parental, etc.

As for Hugh. A simple (but massive) oversight on both our parts. We realized our faux pas shortly after releasing the episode. Certainly the work done by Jonathan DelArco was phenomenal in bringing a bit part into full coalescence as a fully fledged character. His character was necessary and very much integral to the show and I believe both @entireoranges and I would’ve sorely missed him not being there. Will he return? 🤷🏻‍♂️ it’s sci-fi anything can happen.
