Having sent in a proposal to have my work exhibited in the king johns castle exhibition in conjunction with limerick mental health week, lsad and le cheile, here is a few images of the work i submitted and that got displayed. Within these photographs which i had taken on a disposible kodak 35mm film camera at electric picnic 2017, i was exploring the social behaviour of our youth at social events and in these 3 photos particularly i was attracted to these subjects in particular with how they used fashion statements to rebel against oppression coming from the minority within this generation who are opposed to queer culture.

Throughout my contextual research I have been really interested in exploring 'installation' and the connection between an artwork and its space. As ive been mainly documenting my project through the medium of photography I took a disposible film camera to electric picnic this summer with me and decided to document friday-Monday of my experience! So portrayed in the image above is a combination of photocopied photographs from 'ep' displayed in a wallpaper/poster type form with text. The language was sourced from conversations held at the time of the taking of the image. I decided to use text as i was told the images appeal to me because they are personal but other people may not have a connection with them as they dont know what the story is in the photo. Adding text to me gives the viewer more to question or react to which makes the experience more interesting.

Week 2 of 2nd year I was in abit of an Artist block, overwhelmed by all the ideas I had but could not focus on 1 or find 1 that was anyhow within my budget or reach of materials so my year tutor Amanda gave me a drawing assignment. I was asked to within my own approach draw the photos i had been taking for my project. Here is the result of what I finished with.

A few Digital photos I took over the summer for my summer project which focuses on the social behaviour of our youth. There has been no manipulation added to the images the pyschedelic as such effect has been given by the slow shutter speed due to the constant change of the light colour and how dim it is.

This image was taken for a 24hr project we were assigned last week, within this brief we were asked to focus on the architecture of the LSAD, clare st building and ourselves. From height, smell, texture, colour etc. Where and how you fit/ react to the architecture? I approached this project by looking at the 1st year sculpture and combined media studio that I am situated in. From being in this studio 5 days a week usually, it didnt take much researching when gathering materials and coming up with ideas it was almost an instant instinct. I built a box that was slightly taller and slightly wider than me so that i could fit, barely but could still fit. This is because in my studio I feel movement is restricted. Inside this 'box' I lined the back wall with styrofoam to act as a heat insulator then with clingfilm inside and out to act as another source of heat insulation and to function as a suffocator to say i feel claustraphobic in this room. When i accomplished making the main form of the box i got a plastic bowl and filled it with boiling water, I then stood inside the box for a period of time untill i sweated and sweated as this is what usually happens on a daily basis in our studio as heating is always on consistently. I wasnt trapped inside of this box the front of the box acted as a door but was more so a curtain or flap as leaving and entering the studio is never restricted. Its generally quite a carefree enviroment.

24 hours was all we had for this brief! The brief asked us to make a doll with aspects of ourselves that had to be half your height exactly and to be non-illustrated! So i picked a feature from a dolls figure and my own body. Which was the limbs! As a sculpture student i am a maker! Everyday i use both my arms and legs to transport materials and to reconfigure or produce them. As for this, I casted my right hand and forearm using alginate and powder form plaster which made the first, less than half meassurement of my piece. When first coming up with suggestions and ideas fitting the brief given i was trying to think of objects of relevence in my life that would make up 80cm. So i came to the realisation that my 2 forearms including both hands made up exactly 80cm. I orignially was going with the idea of making both hands but as i was in the process of my left arm in which i used plaster bandage around my arm instead of making a mould first to cast the shape. The way i noticed the material drying it dried into quite a distorted shape and it really appealed to me aesthetically. So instead of continueing to cast my hand i made 4 forearm sections using plaster bandage from my left arm and when displaying them i connected them disproportionatly, connecting them at each end. The ends on each cast are not stably met as the casts had not fully dried with the little time we had so glue/tape would not stick so i displayed the warped arm in a fishnet stocking leg, laying simply on the floor. I had always intended on using the fishnet anyhow i just wasnt sure what its function would be. In the end I was pleased with how it functioned as it gives off an uncomfortable feel that a leg should be in a stocking not an arm? Which ties in with the disproportions of the arm in the stocking. I think the visual 'wrongness' or incorrectness of this piece also shows aspects of me as a person for anyone who knows me as ive always been one to push the boundaries and not particularly be one to follow many rules.
