Remembering B.I.G.G.I.E. - Born Into God’s Greatest Influence Ever
EMGWorld pays tribute to the late icon Notorious B.I.G.
Let’s face it. Hip-hop was on life support in the East Coast during the early 90’s. Nas, Public Enemy, Wu-Tang Clan and several others kept hip-hop alive in the East, but commercially hip-hop was controlled by the West Coast. Whatever Dr. Dre touched turned to platinum and he wasn’t touching nothing from the East Coast.
The moment Christopher Wallace jumped into a recording booth the shift in power began to change. Ready to Die (Biggie’s first album) single handedly rejuvenated hip-hop’s value in the East Coast.
Biggie was no LL Cool J when people compare commercial image, but he made up for whatever he lacked in skill and swag. Check out the incredible knockout combo Biggie delivers in ‘Big Poppa’ off his debut album Ready To Die.
Who he attracting with that line what’s your name what’s your size?
Soon as he drop that line I just creep up from behind.
And ask you what your interests are?
Who you be with?
Things that make you smile.
What numbers to dial?
The wordplay from Biggie made you a believer. Biggie’s talent easily outweighed everything else as he charmed his way onto the Billboard charts. The industry couldn’t help but take notice.
Biggie’s success as an artist physically proves you can accomplish anything you put your mind to. When you possess confidence and an undeniable belief in yourself there’s nothing or no one that can stop you from shining.
Just looking at him you would’ve assumed that someone of Biggie’s presence could never be appealing in the ‘commercial’ world of music.
Another artist went through a similar challenge in the late 2000’s when record execs told him he didn’t have the right image to make it in the R&B world, but I’m sure we can all agree that T-Pain is a household name in music now.
Biggie’s influence in the hip-hop world is undeniable. Fifteen years after his death, people still continue to use the blueprint he helped to create. In order to succeed as an artist in hip-hop, you have to make music that ladies can vibe too. If you want steady radio rotation, you have to release music for the ladies.
Most of biggest hits in hip-hop have all been ‘lady approved’ singles. “One More Chance” and Big Poppa” are two of Biggie’s biggest hits, singles that catered to the ladies. Every major artist, including Jay-Z, took notice of this formula.
Jay-Z’s success as an artist was practically co-signed by Biggie. Big not only endorsed Jay-Z, but also played a heavy role in his develop as an artist. There’s no question whether or not Jay-Z was destined to be a hip-hop artist. But one could easily say Jay-Z would’ve never reached the pinnacle as an artist had there never been Biggie.
If there was no Biggie, there would be no Jay-Z = False
Jay-Z would’ve never became king of hip-hop had there never been Biggie =True
The clever lyrical genius managed to use his talent to completely rejuvenate the East coast hip-hop movement. Still, Biggie found time to put others on the map as well. He snatched his friends off the street and formed them into the rap group Junior M.A.F.I.A.
Within less than a year after putting out his own debut album, Biggie helped his people become rap stars in their own right. Under Biggie’s supervision (he practically wrote all of their lyrics), Junior M.A.F.I.A. scored a gold album and launched the solo career of Lil’ Kim.
This formula is another one that has been adopted by today’s artist in the industry. 50 Cent immediately put his crew on the map (G-Unit), just as Eminem did with his group D12.
Biggie’s Formula
Once you get on, put your crew on. Help them climb up with you.
Whether Notorious B.I.G. is the greatest influence in hip-hop will always be questioned. But there’s no question whether or not his name belongs in that discussion.
EMGWorld pays homage to the late great Christopher “Biggie Smalls” a.k.a. “Notorious B.I.G.” Wallace. Can’t ever forget you Big…

Tumblr Top 5 ~ Iron Men of Hip-Hop
EMGWorld lists the 5 longest running careers in hip-hop
Written by Team EMGWorld
Longevity is one of the hardest things to sustain in the world of music. There’s no guarantee that what’s hot today will stay hot tomorrow. Today’s artists come and go faster than JaMarcus Russell’s NFL career.
If your career can outlast your second album, it’s safe to say that you had a good run. Only a handful of artists can generate new fans after their fourth or fifth album. The ones who can are considered as household names.
EMGWorld lists those artists whose careers have continued to stand the test of time…
5. Nas
Debut album: Illmatic (1994)
Many would question Nas' placement on this list over someone like LL Cool J who isn't listed at all. However, Nas still remains in demand as a featured artist by many of today's most popular artists. We just can't say the same for LL Cool J. His days of platinum record sales or number one singles on the Billboard charts are over, but that doesn't mean Nas still can't sellout show after show.
4. Eminem
Debut album: The Slim Shady LP (1999)
Backed by Dr. Dre, Eminem took the music world by storm when he arrived on the scene in '99. Controversy may have helped Eminem get to the top, but his undeniable talent has helped him remain there. Eminem went from being the best 'white' rapper of all-time to being one of the best rappers period.
Eminem remains not only the best-selling hip-hop artist, but rightfully considered as one of the best lyricists ever. Eminem has always maintained the gift to create the commercial chart toppers and still possess the lyrical skillset to 'ether' your favorite rapper's favorite rapper.
3. Lil Wayne
Debut (solo) album: Lights Out (1999)
At 29, Lil Wayne is the youngest member on our list. Hard to believe just how long Lil Wayne has been in music. His first solo album was released in 1999 at the age of 16. In 13 years, Lil Wayne has gone from being a regional star to a national superstar. Jay-Z and Nelly's careers didn't really take off until they were 29, which tells you just how high Lil Wayne can still climb.
Remember this guy???
2. Jay-Z
Debut album: Reasonable Doubt (1996)
Jay-Z has somehow managed to become the elephant man of hip-hop. Though Reasonable Doubt was considered his debut album, the "Jigga Man" didn't really make his presence felt in music until 1998 with the release of Hard Knock Life: Vol. 2. The third album catapulted Jay-Z into stardom. For fourteen years, Jay-Z has went from "Jigga" to "Hova" to Shawn Carter. At EMG World, we just label him as "Icon."
Jay-Z's style has gone through a constant metamorphosis, but that has yet to slow down his following in the music world. At 42, Jay-Z can still stop traffic with the release of new music.
1. Snoop Dogg
Debut album: Doggy Dogg World (1993)
Snoop is without a doubt the 'Energizer Bunny' of hip-hop. No matter how many newcomers enter the musical arena, Snoop keeps going and going. Nearly 20 years since his debut project, Snoop has continued to achieve commercial success album after album. His biggest benefactor has been his ability to collaborate with the newer artists that come along, rather than diss them.
Snoop has consistently captured the fountain of youth throughout the release of his 12 albums. That fountain might be filled with the "jolly green giant," but you can't take away what Snoop has achieved. For close to 20 years Snoop has continued to keep a home on the Billboard charts.
Honorable Mention:
LL Cool J

Tumblr Top 5 ~ Diss Masters
EMG World lists the 5 best diss records to drop in hip-hop
Written by Team EMG World
Competition is the one thing you can always expect in hip-hop. Year after year, new artists are always fighting to make their presence known while the stars of the game are constantly fighting to stay at the top. In other words, ‘beef’ is unavoidable.
Beef is usually served on a platter we like to call the ‘diss’ record. Artists such as 50 Cent have built their careers off of diss records, while artists like Ja Rule have had their careers ruined by them.
Check out the 5 most devastating diss records in hip-hop history...
5. "2nd Round KO" – Canibus
Canibus' career may have been considered only a spark, but what a spark it was. 2nd Round K.O. will go down as one of the coldest diss tracks you can find in the world of hip-hop. The entire track was a direct aim and fire at hip-hop legend LL Cool J. The beef was ignited when LL took a jab at the young Canibus on his hit single “5,4,3,2,1.”
Canibus delivered the counter punch of the year and made hip-hop fans lean back with "2nd Round K.O."
Most Notable Punchline:
"Now watch me rip the tat from your arm. Kick you in the groin, stick you for your Vanguard Award in front of you mom, your first, second and third born make your wife get on the horn call Minister Farakhan."
4. "What Up, What's Happening" - T.I.
After putting an end to Lil Flip's career you would assume that no one else would be dumb enough to challenge T.I. Wrong! An artist in T.I.'s own backyard was bold enough to step into the ring with the proclaimed Captain of Bankhead. If only Shawty Lo had first consulted with Lil' Flip maybe he would've had a 'change of heart.'
No one knows the truth behind what sparked Shawty Lo to step up, but what we do know is that T.I. conveniently shut his opponent down. "What Up, What's Happening" stands as one of the best diss songs ever created. The song was a body slam to Shawty Lo's career.
Most Notable Punchline:
"Boy you so damn lame. Your clique the same a bunch of dusty walkin' s**t stains. Disgrace the 'A' you give the city such a bad name. You way back in my rear view mirror I'm in the fast lane."
3. "Ether" - Nas
Let's face it. By 2001, Nas' commercial value in music had declined like the value of the U.S. dollar. Who better to take aim at a fallen king than one whose just been appointed to the throne? Jay-Z delivered one of the coldest combos around to Queensbridge natives Mobb Deep and Nas with 'Takeover' off his classic album Blueprint. Mobb Deep never recovered, but Nas successfully KO'd his former foe with "Ether."
Nas devoted an entire song filled with body blows to Roc-a-Fella’s captain Jay-Z. The song not only put Jay-Z on his a**, but also resurrected Nas' own career.
Most Notable Punchline:
“Rocafeller died of AIDS that was the end of his chapter. And that’s the guy you chose to name your company after? Put it together. I rock hoes. Y’all rock fellas.”
2. "No Vaseline" - Ice Cube
After receiving unequal pay for his efforts on debut albums from both Eazy E and NWA, Ice Cube chose to strike out on his own. Accused of being a traitor, NWA took subliminal shots at Ice Cube on several records. If only they knew their featherweight jabs were just adding fuel to a fire that would eventually burn down NWA's career. "No Vaseline" is one of the greatest 'spankings' ever delivered in music.
Ice Cube was never truly respected for his lyrical ability the way he should have been. His name is never mentioned among the greats in hip-hop, but EMG World definitely can't overlook the years of 'beast mode' delivered by Cube on wax.
NWA would've never made the impact they did in hip-hop had Ice Cube never been involved. Ice Cube made this clear when he released one of hip-hop's most underrated diss tracks "No Vaseline." In one song, Ice Cube practically dismantled his former group members piece by piece.
Most Notable Punchline:
"Callin me an Arnold, but you’ve been a d**k. Eazy E saw your a** and ran up in it quick." (uppercut shot directed towards Dr. Dre)
1. "Hit Em Up" - 2Pac
Can't help but place 2Pac at the top of the list where he rightfully belongs. After serving 11 months in jail and surviving five gunshot wounds, 2Pac took to the recording booth to voice his anger against those he felt responsible for his injuries. The result was the infamous single "Hit Em Up," by far the toughest of diss tracks you can find.
2Pac went at Notorious B.I.G's entire camp with an onslaughter of combinations that had the East Coast searching for an answer. No other artist out there besides Biggie could still have maintained a career after taking such a beating on wax. More than 15 years have passed and there still has never been such a lyrical ass-kicking delivered like 2Pac's "Hit Em Up." If only the beef could've remained in the recording booth.
Most Notable Punchline:
Too many to choose from...

Can They Comeback: No Limit, Bad Boy, G-Unit
EMGWorld debates whether No Limit, Bad Boy and G-Unit can rise again
They were once hip-hop powerhouses. Now they’re just ‘under construction.’ Climbing your way up to the top just once is hard. Imagine how hard it can be to do it twice. EMGWorld examines three former dynasties to determine if they are still eligible to make a comeback in hip-hop.
Record Label: Bad Boy
Most Notable Acts: Notorious B.I.G, Diddy, Mase
Worst Notable Act: G-Dep
Eligible for Comeback: (Yes)
People will disagree, but you just can’t ever count out a great hustler like Diddy. You can never count out a man who lives by the motto: Can’t Stop Won’t Stop. Without question, Diddy has one of the greatest ears in music when it comes to selecting talent. Unfortunately, his success and failure has always been based on how he DELIVERS that talent.
There are too many sharks in the water for Bad Boy to easily sail back into the sunset. Still, we believe the Bad Boy ship has a chance to sail. All the label needs is a few good first mates and a steady current of hit records.
Diddy’s greatest strength right now is his ability to maintain relationships. He reportedly has an undisclosed bond with hip-hop Pirate Rick Ross.
If Ross has anything to do with the future direction of Bad Boy then the label is in good hands. Maybach Music Group is gearing up to be the next powerhouse of hip-hop. Maybe some of Ross’ power moves just might help steer Bad Boy into the right direction.
Throwbaaaack Hit..
Record Label: No Limit
Most Notable Acts: Master P, Romeo, Mystikal
Worst Notable Act: Mr. Serv On
Eligible for Comeback: (No)
As an independent label, No Limit had one of the most successful runs in hip-hop history. We repeat. They HAD one of the most successful runs in hip-hop. Oh how time flies. Now they’re just HISTORY..
What will prevent the tank from ever rolling forward is Master P’s inability to secure national talent. P still believes he can generate the next superstars of music right in his former backyard of New Orleans. The game has changed DRASTICALLY.
Lil Wayne and Birdman may not look like Einsteins, but they definitely know their business. These guys did their research and took notice of the movement that artists like Drake and Tyga created on their own. All Cash Money had to do was add a little seasoning to a recipe that was already winning.
Master P has been gone TOO long to try and bring back the tank. The only relevant act, Romeo, is no longer relevant. If even Romeo can’t generate a hit to turn things back around then the tank might as well pump its brakes.
Throwbaaaack Hit..
Record Label: G-Unit
Most Notable Acts: 50 Cent, Game, Young Buck
Worst Notable Act: Hot Rod
Eligible for Comeback: (Smh)
We know this is a Yes or No question. Honestly, we can’t co-sign G-Unit. For years the label thrived off of controversy and hit records. Unfortunately, controversy just doesn’t sell like it use too.
When your biggest act is struggling to produce a hit, the label is in even bigger trouble. G-Unit distributor Interscope has consistently PUSHED BACK the release of 50 Cent’s upcoming album more than a bad barber pushes back hairlines.
In order for G-Unit to make a comeback, 50 Cent can’t be the main attraction. The label must make ‘the decision’ and encourage other artists to “bring their talents.” G-Unit has to find other hot acts…period.
Should G-Unit ever rise again among the ranks, 50 Cent must do the impossible and keep the beef frozen. Cooking up beef may have helped get him in the game, but it was also a major factor in excluding him out. Beef also cost G-Unit to lose some valuable teammates in Game and Young Buck.
If G-Unit can draft some talented rookies and sign some well-respected free agents, the label has a chance to make that comeback. As long as 50 Cent doesn’t piss anyone off… of course.
Throwbaaaack Hit..

Top 5 Most Slept On – Hip-Hop Debuts
EMGWorld lists the top five most 'slept on' debut releases in hip-hop
Sometimes the best products fail to generate the most demand. The artists on this list are all legends in their craft. Everyone listed is considered to be a ‘self-made’ musical legend. Unfortunately, fans needed just a little bit more convincing after the release of their debut albums. EMGWorld lists the top five most ‘slept on’ debut releases in hip-hop.
5. “Adrenaline Rush” (1995) – Twista
Perhaps the best lyricist of our time, hip-hop just wasn’t prepared for the release of Twista’s debut album “Adrenaline Rush.” The industry received a dose of ‘rapid flow’ from hip-hop group Bone-Thugs-N-Harmony, but no one had ever done it quite like Twista. His rapid, spit-fire flow was in a class of its own.
“Adrenaline Rush” placed Twista in the Guiness Book of World Records as the fastest rapper alive. Too bad fans were too slow to catch on to the clever wordplay and delivery in the album. “Adrenaline Rush” scored the worst commercial performance of any album on our list. However, the album managed to achieve artistic success and captured the interest of many of hip-hop’s top artists.
Though not a commercial success, “Adrenaline Rush” is considered as an artistic masterpiece to the hip-hop community.
4. “SouthernPlayalistiCadillacMuzic” (1995) – Outkast
Though “SouthernPlayalistiCadillacMuzik” was well-received by fans, we at EMG World believe it just wasn’t well-received enough. The album was more than just a compilation of tracks. “SouthernPlayalistiCadillacMuzik” gave birth to the hip-hop scene in Atlanta…
With production from the Dungeon Family, Outkast’s debut album scored major underground success. Had only the Billboard charts reflected the same results. Their debut album didn’t flop. It just didn’t receive the full attention it deserved.
“SouthernPlayalisticCadillacMuzik” is considered the soil that helped Atlanta sprout up today’s top artists. The album helped open the door in the South and created fusion between funk and hip-hop.
3. “I’m Serious” (2001) – T.I.
“I’m Serious” is considered to be a Southern classic. The album was in heavy demand in every ol’ school Chevy you could find. However, “I’m Serious” just wasn’t in heavy demand on the Billboard charts as it failed to crack the top 100.
T.I. definitely came into the ring swinging with great punches. The album’s only commercial released single [I'm Serious] was produced by The Neptunes and featured Beenie Man, both two of the hottest names in music at the time.
Dismal sales resulted in T.I.’s release from Arista Records. T.I. came back bigger and better with mainstream acceptance on his sophomore album “Trap Muzik.” The rest is history.
2. “Reasonable Doubt” (1996) – Jay-Z
How can an album that features Mary J. Blige and Notorious B.I.G. fly under the radar? To this day, the moderate success of “Reasonable Doubt” remains one of hip-hop’s ‘unsolved mysteries?’ Mary J and Biggie were two of hip-hop’s biggest stars, but maybe they just weren’t big enough to help Jay catapult “Reasonable Doubt” into commercial success.
Unlike former rival Nas, Jay-Z stepped into the game with two of hip-hop’s most respected co-signers and delivered an album that can be played without interruption. Unfortunately, the mainstream just wasn’t ready to give “Reasonable Doubt” their undivided attention.
“Reasonable Doubt” ranks as one of the greatest hip-hop albums of all-time. The album will forever reign as a classic to any true fan of hip-hop.
1. “Illmatic” (1994) – Nas
Without question, “Illmatic” is one of the greatest albums ever released. The album possessed no flaws. Nas dropped 10 songs and they were all home runs. Unfortunately, they just weren’t home runs at the cash register.
Still, what makes “Illmatic” so respected is that the album has NO star features on it. Nas was committed to signing his own papers into hip-hop glory. He had no co-signers. AZ, the only featured artist on “Illmatic,” was unknown in hip-hop until he breathed life on Nas’ debut album.
Nas enlisted the help of Refugee All-star Lauryn Hill on his next project ‘It Was Written.’ They collaborated on the infamous single “If I Ruled The World.” The rest is history.
Honorable Mention: “Food & Liquor” (2006) – Lupe Fiasco

Behind The Lens: T.D. Jakes
T.D. Jakes explains what led him to enter into film production
Posted by Team EMGWorld
Whether a pastor or producer, you can guarantee that T.D. Jakes will deliver nothing short of excellence in his craft. The self-described country boy from West Virginia has managed to stay a force in the pulpit and now on the sets of movie productions within the industry. EMGWorld received the privilege of sitting in on a teleconference with T.D. Jakes as he explained his role in the movie world and what led him to venture into film production.
Lee Bailey, Eurweb.com: Why are you a movie producer? TDJ: The person who meets me as a preacher will define me as a preacher. I define myself as a person with multi-faceted interests. My idea of a great life is to explore all of those curiosities and to see whether there's any talent or not. I think I bring something unique and something different outside of the normal way of which films are produced and stories are told.
Gail Choice, Our Weekly News: Was this in your plan all along to at some point make movies? TDJ: I kind of stumbled into it. I set out to do Gospel plays because I believe there's an audience and voice beyond the pulpit. As I began to do it, I realized I liked being able to present messages in a dramatic format. When I got the opportunity to do film I thought wow this is a great opportunity to communicate with a much broader audience in a unique way. I love the challenge of it and I'm still learning and growing in that area, but having a wonderful time doing it.
Wendy Wheaton, Los Angeles: Can you talk about one of the biggest hurdles you've overcome in making movies. TDJ: There have not been many. I'd say it's been more of a learning curve. There was definitely an educational process. I'm not the stereotypical person that movie executives are used to meeting. I'd say I've been green lighted in a way that is quite unusual in Hollywood. It's gone very well.
“I wanted to start something that the young generation can pick up and go on into the future with.” – T.D. Jakes, EMGWorld’s ‘Behind The Lens’
Gail Choice, Our Weekly News: Do you fully understand the type of contribution you are making in film today, especially in Hollywood? TDJ: I didn't realize the walls and hurdles that existed, but I'm glad to be able to leverage my influence to breakthrough some of the barriers of telling stories through our prospective. I really want to be a platform for a BROADER array of talent to get on screen and tell their story. Whether faith or inspirational stories, I want to be able to deliver those films to a broader audience.
Kenya Vaughn, St. Louis American: What made you get behind Sparkle and bring this film to a new generation? TDJ: This generation may not ever get to see the original Sparkle. To be able to bring this story of historical and cultural value to a new audience of people is a privilege. It's a privilege to remind the younger audience of where we came from. I think people of all ages will love it because the struggles and challenges of life are still the same.
Leslie Griffin, Detroit: Sparkle is about relationships between the sisters and mothers within music. Do you see yourself making more films centered on relationships? TDJ: When you look back at the history of T.D. Jakes films, I think one of the main things you'll notice is that they are very relationship based films. I'm intrigued by how we relate to each other, both within the family and how the family relates to the community and how the community relates to the world. Everything that really matters in life centers around relationships. I will predict our future films will follow that trend. ANYTHING I'm involved in will touch on relationships in some way.
Wendy Wheaton, Los Angeles: You're involved in so many things and your schedule is always in demand. Who keeps you grounded in doing all the things you do? TDJ: My faith and family are a strong catalyst in keeping me grounded. This is not my day job so I don't have a lot of ego. I'm comfortable in my own skin. I'm not a product of Hollywood. I'm not a product of evangelism. I'm just a country boy from West Virginia.
“The person who meets me as a preacher will define me as a preacher. I define myself as a person with multi-faceted interests.” – T.D. Jakes, EMGWorld’s ‘Behind The Lens’
Moyna Tucker, Kingdom Magazine: How do you do what you do and still have time for yourself? TDJ: I'd be lying if I said there weren't days that I was overwhelmed. Having time for myself is an area I continuously work on because that is my weakest area. I am a WORKAHOLIC by nature, but I've learned to schedule down time. If you don't schedule down time you don't get it. You have to make an appointment with yourself and keep it. That's the best advice I could give to any busy person.
Wendy Wheaton, Los Angeles: Is there a project other than Sparkle that's on the table? TDJ: We're working on a lot of things. We're considering the possibility of taking Sparkle to Broadway. We're in the process of doing a film called Heaven Is For Real. We're hoping to have that up by the Spring of 2013. I have an independent film that's coming out called Winnie, which takes a deep look at South Africa and her marriage to Nelson Mandela. Terrence Howard and Jennifer Hudson are playing the lead roles as Nelson and Winnie Mandela respectively. I enjoy being busy as you can see.
Terri Schrobsher, Rolling Out Magazine: The success of your previous films likeJump The Broom and Woman Thou Art Loose has opened more doors. How important is it for African-Americans to put together their own stories? TDJ: The minorities that have done the best in America are the ones that have pulled elements of their own community together and told their own story. If you complainabout the way we're represented on screen why not tell your own stories and do it in such a way that you do a better job at describing who we are instead of allowing someone from the outside to tell us who we are. I'm very passionate about that. I wanted to start something that the young generation can pick up and go on into the future with.
Moyna Tucker, Kingdom Magazine: How did you go about the casting selection for your movies? TDJ: As far the casting process, we look at the characters and try to find actors that have the chops and skills to portray what that certain role requires. To see who’s available and to work within the confines of the budget is not an easy task. Sometimes who you want is not available or you can't afford them and you have to find the next best option. It's a TEAM effort. We'll do auditions and everyone will say what they think. We'll then come out with a final roster. At the end of the day you come up with a team of people and vast them together to get the film done.
Terri Schrobsher, Rolling Out Magazine: Will you be building a Tyler Perry type studio soon to house all the various movie ideas you have? TDJ: I entertain the idea. I’m still a ways away from that. That would be a great dream but I currently have NO plan to do that.

How You Can Tell When Someone Is Sprung
Kaleila J breaks down the six symptoms of "sprungness"
Written by Kaleila Jordan
Check out the top six symptoms that reveal if someone is SPRUNG:
Sprung violation number #1 (Too many pictures)
Someone is officially sprung if they have too many PICTURES of their special person. Pictures in a frame, on a folder or in a secret facebook album made private. Not to mention the screensaver. What’s scary is that their special someone doesn’t even know all of this is going on...
Sprung violation number #2 (Too generous)
They said they needed gas money to get home but you're giving them 100 dollars asking what else can you do for them? You would sell your damn kidney to them. Why? Nobody knows at this point but you... #Sprungness
Sprung violation number #3 (Meeting up just for SEX)
Girls, this mainly applies for you. Going out of your way to meet up with a guy knowing he doesn't respect you and all he wants is sex means you are S-P-R-U-N-G! If you would make time to go have sex with a guy that is not claiming you as anyone special and makes it clear to you, then your priorities are messed up. Have more self-worth and maybe you won't feel such a need for a person to like you. Cloudy judgment from the love bug will do it...
Sprung violation number #4 (Not being TRUE to yourself)
Suddenly the way you act turns a 360 because you're trying to please the person. Don't suddenly start trying to act too cool and doing things you would never do because you're trying to impress someone. Be you! The more real you are the better chances you have at actually landing someone who cares about who you truly are, bottom line don't be FAKE just because you're too sprung.
Sprung violation number #5 (Stalking)
Stalking is totally a given to be diagnosed as a sprung patient. You'll start by knowing where they like to hang out and deciding to just pass by, or even just following the person on foot as if you're minding your own business. You really just want to be close to the person. It would be cute if it wasn't creepy, seriously, you look sick and CRAZY! Calm that crush down and just do you!
Sprung violation number #6 (Befriending their friends)
This is not only messed up to the friends because you are using them to get to your crush but it’s THIRSTY! Please just cool off and have a tall glass of water. If the person wants you they will show it, as you most likely are being obvious. You will catch on if they like you. If they don't, they will probably pay it no mind and it doesn't really matter who you hang out with because they will never want you. Move on SPRUNGY!

How To Tell When Your Lady Isn't Feeling You Anymore
Kaleila J delivers the signs that say your lady is looking elsewhere
Written by Kaleila Jordan
It happens to the best of them. Somewhere within your relationship the blazing fire that once burned so bright diminished into a birthday candle. Maybe you got comfortable with your girl and started trippin? Maybe you just aren't reaching the full potential she once saw in you?
Either way here are the signs to tell when your girl isn't feeling you anymore.
She’s Too Hard To Reach
In life, we all have our priorities. Your woman should see you as one. When your position in her weekly schedule begins to lose RANK, she’s not feelin’ you anymore. She can’t hang out with you as often as before. Your text messages don’t receive a response as fast as they once did. Suddenly your calls are not answered.
She’s Too Passive
Remember when she used to care so much about arguments and trying her best to fix it? If you had that type of girl and now she just LETS THINGS SLIDE and goes on about her day, she’s not feelin’ you anymore. Relationships are filled with arguments and disagreements. Something is wrong if she’s just going with the flow. Chances are she’s getting ready to jump onto another ship.
She’s Less Physical
At some point, a woman knows what you like and how to make you feel appreciated. She knows the little things that bring a smile to your face. When the little things she once did without hesitation all of a sudden STOP, she’s not feelin’ you anymore. Actually the whole romance thing is null. No more roses on the bed. No sex in the champagne room. What was once a relationship filled with physical affection is now headed towards an unofficial friendship. If she’s less physical, she’s definitely not feelin’ you anymore.

Overly Aggressive Men From The Hood: A Woman's Take
Kaleila J dissects the losing approach of the overly aggressive men
Written by Kaleila Jordan
Most ladies that are not privileged to live among the suburban areas have had the disgrace of being in contact with that one weird guy that just won't give up. He’s like a zombie coming at you in Resident Evil, but won't die! It's sad to say this but the kind of men you will find acting like this are 'Hoods.’
There's this type of arrogance and disrespect that they [Hoods] have adopted.
When in pursuit, a hood will almost assault a woman when trying to get her to become a "friend.” You can nicely tell them you are seeing someone or married and they will still insist on being "your friend.” NEGRO PLEASE!
We all know it's clear they don't want to be just your friend and they would most definitely love to SMACK and TAP that!
My suggestion to ALL men that act like this is that you can get beautiful girls to be with you by just showing interest through conversation (at the right time).
Simply give hints/suggestions of what you are working towards with her and you might be amazed by the results.
What results can a guy expect when acting like he’s about to drag a woman home by the hair? Nine times out of ten, she's gonna RUN!! I personally have noticed many females will find interest in the 'cool guy.’
The ‘cool guy’ plays it safe and is like this magical friend that doesn't want to have sex with her (but really does in his mind). This technique develops INTEREST and intrigues the girl. She will develop a certain level of curiosity about you and want to see if she can MAKE you start feeling her. This is the exact position you want her to be in…
Now the ball is in your court. Don’t let it drop…

The Friend Zone: Four Signs He’s Trying To Escape
Kaleila J reveals four signs a 'guy friend' uses to score with you
Written by Kaleila Jordan
The ‘Friend Zone’ happens to the best of men all across the world. The friendship label is so hard for any man to remove. Some guys accept it and move on. The rest of them lace their sneakers up and return back to the same game against the same defender as ‘guy friends.’
Kaleila J breaks down four basic moves a guy makes when looking to score.
Backcourt Violation
Kaleila J: If he knows you have a boyfriend but he [always] says, “I'm just trying to be your friend,” he's trying to have sex with you… (backcourt violation)
One-on-one
Kaleila J: Technology is a big part of communication [now]. If a guy doesn't have much to say through text or call but wants to take you out or hang out behind closed doors he's probably trying to have sex with you.. (one-on-one isolation play)
Flagrant Foul
Kaleila J: If your ‘guy’ friend brings drinks over at 2am chances are he’s trying to setup the atmosphere to screw you... (flagrant foul)
Technical Foul
Kaleila J: If he's acting like he's too drunk to drive home and just gets comfortable like he's spending the night but doesn't ask, he's trying to sleep with you… (technical foul)

Moving On: How To Tell When It’s Time To End Your Relationship?
Kaleila J reveals five signs in a relationship that scream 'move on'
Written by Kaleila Jordan
Sometimes we are blinded thinking we have to stay in relationships that aren't working or meant to be. The main reasons people refuse to end them is because either they don't think they’ll be able to find love again or they think there is no one out there better for them. Wrong! There is another somebody that is right for you, so don't be afraid to end relationships!
Kaleila J reveals five warning signs that mean ‘GAME OVER’ in your relationship.
Abuse Me (Ike Turner Syndrome)
Kaleila J: If they are causing any harm to you physically or even mentally with verbal abuse it is definitely time to move on. You may love them and see the good in them, but they have a problem they need to handle and you staying to endure it all is unhealthy and detrimental to your happiness.
When you move on, you are not only helping yourself, but helping them because they will have room to consider their next relationship and value what it means to really appreciate someone. You can't go back to them even if they are saying it will never happen again, because it will once you have opened that door.
Doo Doo Daddies
Kaleila J: This one is hilarious to me but so true, for the ladies... A ‘Doo Doo Daddy’is a man that has a squad of kids by different women, especially if they are not even but a year apart. Look at the picture he is painting for you! He isn't stable with his decisions at all! What makes you think he is magically going to settle down with you after running around not using a condom with every new girlfriend thinking its fine to get them pregnant and just pay child support.
Some ‘Doo Doo Daddies’ can't even afford the kids and they will use new girlfriends that are willing to get things paid for. It happens but that shouldn't be a life that anyone lives willingly, unless you practice polygamy. Please take caution and know their background because this would be a sign that it's time to end the relationship because clearly he doesn't understand the value of one.
If They Are Stuck In Between The Two (Ménage a Tois)
Kaleila J: Meaning if they have someone else they are considering to be with, keeping them from fully committing. Know your worth, move on, and STAY GONE! I say stay gone because people often will notice that you don't need them. They’ll try to get back with you just to feel like they can have you again because you are confident and doing well. Sometimes it's not intentional to be a douche, it's just a natural reaction. Don't go backwards, always move forward.
Lack Of Communication
Kaleila J: Communication is a HUGE part of keeping a solid and REAL relationship. If a couple starts to sink in this department, especially in the "honeymoon stage" of the relationship, it’s time to abandon ship. You have invested so much time holding on to this "idea of a person." You slowly find out they are actually not who you thought they were. This could have been avoided if they were honest and open to communicating their feelings and thoughts.
In cases like this it makes it hard to end the relationship because TIME INVESTED can hurt. If there was communication in the beginning and it has started to change, then someone’s feelings have changed and they are not for you. Move on.
Lack Of Motivation
Kaleila J: When a person does not set goals as high as you do for yourself, it willnever work. A relationship is like a business. For example, if your business partner is content with a sales goal of only 500 for the day and you are determined to reach 5,000, you are most likely going to see compatibility only with the next maiden or suitor that also sees your vision of 5,000.
A relationship should always be progressing with the goal of eventually getting married. You might be the person that could motivate them and maybe it will work. Otherwise, move on to someone you have no doubts about because it won't work if you see yourself questioning whether you want to start a family with the ethics they show.

The Tumblr Review: “Somewhere In Italy” by JON MCXRO ft. Travis Garland
EMGWorld shines a light on JON MCXRO's single "Somewhere in Italy"
Written by Melissa Berne
You might remember the other JON MCXRO song that I gave the spotlight to, “Don’t Say Nothin” featuring JoJo [Click here for a refresher!] Another song that I can’t get out of my head from The Fifth of Never album is the track “Somewhere In Italy,” featuring Travis Garland.
The song samples from “Parisian Theme” from the Ocean’s Twelve soundtrack. Combining lust and love, “Somewhere In Italy” briefly starts with a magically-inclined harp sound and the gentlemen take us on a journey. JON MCXRO rap about the many exotic women they’ve taken as conquest all around the world while Travis Garland lays down his smooth vocals, sounding like a young Justin Timberlake, singing, “I fell in love in Venice, with a girl from Tuscany/Stole my heart and left it somewhere in Italy.”
The way Travis sings, with sincerity and swag in tow, added with the romantic music from “Parisian Theme,” and JON MCXRO’s sometimes scandalous verses, makes “Somewhere In Italy” a banger!
Listen to the song after the jump.

The Tumblr Spotlight: Music Songstress Kat Graham
Melissa Berne speaks with Kat Graham on her passion for music
Written by Melissa Berne
I got a chance to call in and have a candid interview with the fierce Kat Graham! She talks about her experiences in the music industry and being on tour. Plus, Kat shares passions her fans don’t know about. Check out her insights after the jump!
EMGWorld’s Melissa Berne: What’s it like being on the road and getting to play your music for your fans? Kat Graham: It’s so incredible. I just want to live on the road. I can’t understand artists that don’t want to perform and don’t enjoy getting on stage to do their songs for all their fans every night. If I’m not performing every night I get totally depressed. I know that sounds really weird, but I hate sitting at home and not having a 1 a.m. performance. It kills me. I love being on tour. I love being on the road. It’s the most amazing feeling ever. I live for that feeling and I love it.
EMGWorld (MB): Would your music ever be featured on The Vampire Diaries? KG: I hope not. Unless “Kat Graham” visited The Vampire Diaries. I don’t think Bonnie can sing my music. Not unless it’s scoring music for the actual soundtrack, which I’ve done in the past. I’m not interested in singing my songs other than when I’m myself. Yea [laughs], I would rather not to be honest.
EMGWorld (MB): We all know how harsh the experience can be from the grind of trying to get a record deal, dealing with music execs, people wanting you to fit into a certain box, grueling rehearsals, or having “bad singing” days. How do you keep going? What do you tell yourself and how do you shut out the doubters? KG: All I wanted when I was kid was to have a record deal. I spent every day since age 14 trying to make my [own] music. There’s not one day that goes by that I’m not listening, rehearsing or dancing to one of my songs. I wanted to be the first teen-age female producer and it didn’t happen. When it finally did happen I was shelved because I was signed to Warner Bros. I had spent all my money to support my music and I was just kind of like, “I don’t need to get signed. I just want to release my music and if it’s meant to be, it will be.” That’s when I got signed to A& M Interscope Records and it just all worked out.
EMGWorld (MB): Would you say the hard times you’ve experienced as an artist have been worth it? KG: I’m not going to say my experience with music is extremely negative, but it’s definitely been a grind. It’s been grimy. It hasn’t been a pretty process. It’s left me crying on the carpet in my tiny apartment with, like, no money. But it’s been worth it because music is my passion. Music is what I love to do and I don’t mind GOING BROKE for it. I love what I do. Now, it’s all coming together and the hard times are all worth it. Things are really starting to happen now.
"Music is what I love to do and I don’t mind going broke for it." - Kat Graham, 'Music Is My Passion' w/ Melissa Berne
EMGWorld (MB): Who are your inspirations on your style? KG: My style is a little crazy. I think I’m toning it down, but then I always end up just doing my own thing. My biggest style inspirations come from the ’90s. I’m really inspired by TLC, Janet Jackson, and designers like Jeremy Scott. I’m hugely inspired by Club Kids from New York back in the ’90s. I’m inspired by the drag queen scene. Combat boots and the torn off jeans and a baggy shirt–I love that look. I love Kayne West. He inspires me a lot.
EMGWorld (MB): I know that you recently had a tour for your EP Against The Wall. What was your favorite city and who was the loudest? KG: Chicago was my favorite. I’d say Chicago was definitely the loudest. I did this show at a local gay club called Roscoe’s and I didn’t know what to expect because I’ve done lots of gay clubs since I started performing. My biggest audience and my most loyal has been my gay fan base. But I definitely would have to say Roscoe’s in Chicago was the most impressive. They knew all the songs, all the lyrics to my songs and they were singing them back to me so loud, I couldn’t even hear myself in the monitors. It was just so piercingly loud that I actually started to cry because it was so beautiful to have that experience where the people knew my music. It was just the energy in it was like heartbreaking in the best way. It was the culmination of, you know, all the years that I spent struggling and having hope that it will all work out.
EMGWorld (MB): What are three passions that you have that your fans wouldn’t know about? KG: Let me ask my mom because she knows me. To her mom in the background:“Name three passions I have that fans wouldn’t know about”: Animals, art. I can be obsessive about art and artists. Like Renaissance artist, most particularly, Leonardo Da Vinci, and, like, the history of things, knowing the background of that story behind it. Animals, art, and spirituality.
EMGWorld (MB): Musically speaking, what producers or other artists would you love to collaborate with? KG: I would really love to collaborate with Gwen Stefani, and M.I.A.; artists that kind of make sense with me vocally. In terms of style, I really love Pharell. I love people that really care about drums and I like beat-heavy. I’d love to work with Cee Lo. I don’t know, there’s a lot of them.
EMGWorld (MB): Can you describe your ideal day when you’re not singing or acting? KG: I’d have to say what I’m doing right now: having lunch with my mom, maybe going to yoga in the morning, you know, going to see a movie at night with my boyfriend, looking at different furniture. I just got a house, so I’m obsessed with decor and art right now, finding cool pieces. Yeah, just shopping and hanging out with my mom. Very, very normal. But they are very rare the days, you know.

New Song Review: “Demonstrate” by JoJo
EMGWorld's Melissa Berne drops the decision on JoJo's latest track
Written by Melissa Berne
The Decision: "I LOVE IT"
JoJo once again ‘demonstrates’ her range with this baby-making song. It’s a sleek, smooth, freaky, sexy R&B 40-produced beat with JoJo’s vocals slaying the track.
“There’s a lot of freaky s**t running my mind that I can’ t say/But I know I can demonstrate.” That’s the line that will be stuck on everyone’s mind for a week straight.
I hope this becomes an official single with an accompanied music video. JoJo said the album isn’t angry anymore and it’s more about “infused pop.” And with this new song she’s proving that she’s ever-evolving and the girl can break out a song like “Disaster”as well as a dope R&B song like this.
Congrats JoJo!

The Tumblr Spotlight: Hawaii Hip-Hop
EMG World takes a glimpse at hip-hop's landscape in Hawaii
Written by Code E Keyz
Let’s face it, as mainlanders (people living in the 48-states outside of Alaska and Hawaii), Hawaii and hip-hop have never really been that synonymous with one another. We think of paradise, island music, palm trees, and the easy life when imagining the islands. Oh how we are deeply mistaken…
As a long time devoted hip-hop student and fan of the cultural movement, I have had the opportunity to live in various cities and states across the country. From Alabama to Florida to Texas to Louisiana, I’ve been fortunate enough to experience the many different flavors and versatile elements of cultural hip-hop embedded in each underground and mainstream scene throughout the south.
Four years ago I moved to Oahu, Hawaii to begin a new life with my girlfriend, now wife, Anna. Not only did Hawaii have a hip hop scene, but it was one of the most pure, hungry, and flourishing scenes that I had ever encountered.
I must warn all that desire to come to Hawaii and retire that I am fully confident in saying you have been beaten to the punch by none other than hip-hop. Hawaii and hip-hop have a VERY close relationship that I can only describe as undeniable and indescribable.
Each show in my four years on the island seemed to have such purity about it. You can catch DJs pumping the crowd with phenomenal sets, B-boys rocking the floor, graffiti artist tagging everything around, artist painting murals on the back walls while local photographers capture it all. MC’s effortlessly showcase the meaning of the term “M.C.” to each and every fan on the dance floor, behind the bar, and in the building. I mean it was unbelievable that this type of love and energy for hip-hop was still alive at this level to me.
The Hawaii Hip-Hop scene is hungry. Each and every talented individual, whether photographer, artist, promoter, DJ, MC, live band, spoken word poet, or B-boy, that I would build a relationship with seemed to have the same goal and idea as to what they are doing with themselves and what they want to see the scene doing as a result of that. That result was to thrive and be heard. There is no doubt in my mind that Hawaii WILL be heard on a larger scale before we know it.
Hawaii has something to offer and more and more of the local artists are being blessed with the opportunities of opening up for larger mainstream acts that come to the islands. As the audience and fan-base steadily increases at every show, it is just a matter of time before this scene is fully exposed as the greatness that it is.
Throughout my time writing articles and reviews for EMG World, I will be choosing different moments to showcase different elements and members of this particular scene in hopes to help push Hawaii’s movement that I have become so deeply passionate about.
Much love and respect to Rudified Media, Workhouse, DJ Bone of The Got Rice? Show, DJ Jimmy Taco of The Mind Tactics Show, and Shango of Rude Boy Riddimz for helping take this Hawaii Hip Hop to the next level, as well as all of the artists that grind consistently to keep the ball rolling forward.
Hawaii Hip Hop is a boiling pot of talent that is steadily dripping over the sides, ready at any given moment to fully BURST onto the mainstream scene with floods of inspiring and diverse contributions to hip-hop and the culture….

Behind The Lens: Rudified Photography
EMGWorld takes a glimpse at Rudified Photography’s impact on the industry
Written by Code E Keyz
Everyone at some juncture in their life has had the opportunity to pick up a camera and snap a picture. The craft of photography is a talent that many try out, but FEW master.
One of these ‘masters of the craft’ that I have had the wonderful chance of crossing paths with through my own musical career is Ms. Riana Stellburg aka Rudified. With her perfectly blended fusion of both talent and unique artistic vision, she has proven time and time again that she is here to stay as not only a professional photographer, but as an inspiration to anyone with a dream.
Referring to herself as a “very determined fan,” Riana will be the last person to tell you exactly how much she has helped and given to the entertainment community of Hawaii. There are few events that go down, especially in the hip hop community, in which her brand logo/symbol can’t be found somewhere on the flyer. She is a complete balanced multimedia MONSTER that is a full force to be reckoned with in every sense of the term.
Her ability to blend and capture streaks of lighting in movement is one of her many signature styles of photography
With pictures featured in many of the local source outlets like The Manifest, Contrast Magazine, and even Hawaii Pacific University’s own Newspaper Kalamalama, her photos have really began to set the standard for many new upcoming and hopeful photographers in the nightlife scene. By perfectly meshing the object with the streaks of lighting together, combined with applying unique angles and various lenses, these style pictures really separate themselves from the standard event photos that are routinely taken by photographers in the late night Hawaiian scene.
“Light Graffiti” is the term that best describes the style of light trails Rudified captures in her photos. When looking at any of these unique pictures, the amount of movement that is placed in the picture really gives the effect of being in the moment that it was taken. The progressive flow allows each picture to ‘pop’ with color and action to give the onlooker the experience of almost actually breaking a sweat like they are standing in the photo themselves.
She glides easily over each transition, showcasing every detail through the story of the night.
Rudified’s portraiture photos have gained very high demand in not only the hip hop scene, but with artists and fans of all areas and states. As usual with all of her photos, she manages to keep the consistency of her quality while really bringing to life the aspect of what a portraiture photo should look like. Splendidly splashed with the perfect amount of light, each photo I’ve seen from her collection (Rudified.com) seems to spill endless amounts of emotion and passion from each and every individual pixel.
Her always tasteful and often elegant style reflects undeniable talent
From photographing national stars like Dead Prez, 9th Wonder, Murs, and Dumbfoundead to soon to be national stars like Jim Hurdle, Angry Locals, K-Luv, Prie, and The Deadbeats, Rudified has built quite the portfolio. She documents not only the hip hop scene in Hawaii, but the evolution of its growth. Her always tasteful and often elegant style reflects undeniable talent that will pierce through the oversaturated multimedia markets of not only Hawaii, but the NATION.
Rudified is an inspiration to not only me, but to all of the aspiring writers, graphic design artists, photographers, and overall go getters who desire to do something with their life that they have love and passion for. You can call her “Riana,” “Ms. Stellburg,” “Rudified,” or just “Dope.” Riana Stellburg will be brought up in every artist’s conversations more than once in not only the Hawaiian entertainment industry, but throughout the world of entertainment. Period…
