The guilt just seemed to consume him. While his intentions were never to hurt Sophia, he had. No matter what he said, he couldn't turn this situation around. Now that he no longer had access to this girlfriend situation, he felt slightly panicked. What was he going to tell his father? What would his father even say? Would Sophia go ahead and tell him why they'd broken up if he asked?
Usually the blonde had quite a strong grasp on social cues, he knew what was the right thing to do. But in this situation he was stumped. Beyond stumped. Nonetheless he reached out. Gently resting his hand on her arm in an attempt to comfort her.
"Soph, please." Billy had no idea what he was asking for. Whether it was for her to forgive him, or for her to forget what she had seen. Both? "I still want us to be friends." It sounded insane even for him, but it was true. All the things that Sophia had afforded him, the kindness... he still craved that. Eyes opening and closing a few times, to prevent himself from crying, he attempted his next sentence. "I still want you in my life."
While Sophia hadn't fallen head over heels for Billy she still had felt something, more than anything Sophia felt a place of belonging, Max and Susan had been more than welcoming, and with Billy by her side, Sophia felt like she had a little family for once. However, Sophia couldn't deny that he had inklings about Billy's intentions, she was caught off guard the moment he asked her out and it seemed like Sophia was ever really around when Billy needed to show her off, looking back Sophia couldn't believe just how stupid she was.
Most of all though, Sophia was disgusted. Not by Billy's sexuality, Sophia could easily get over that, but her brother? Billy just had to get with Steve? That's what made Sophia sick, even though the pair were never official it was almost like Billy cheated on Sophia with her own blood. Had Sophia known she would've been happy to go along, playing the beard to piss off Billy's horrific Father, but now she just felt lied to and hurt. Sophia had opened up to Billy about things she'd never told anyone, mainly the similar trauma she faced at the hands of her own parents, now that was all gone. Billy was just another stranger who thought he knew everything about the Harringtons.
Just like that, all the walls Billy had broken down were quickly back up. Sophia knew Billy may have been trying to apologize but she didn't want any of it, moving out of his touch. "Just leave me alone. If you needed someone to play house with you could've just said that." Sophia's fists were neatly placed at her side while her nails dug into the skin, she wouldn't be surprised if she woke up with scratches in the morning, but that wouldn't stop her from getting in Billy's face. "I want you to forget everything. You don't know me and I don't owe you shit. Got it?"

What the hell did you think would happen?
An exasperated sigh fell from Billy's lips, though he knew that Sophia was right. He could never bring himself to admit it. Everything had been pointing to the fact that he should stop, that he shouldn't push even more with trying to prove a point that was long since dead. A point that he had long since accepted was true. While he had been dubbed an asshole for the majority of his life, his intentions had never been to hurt Sophia. Not in the slightest.
But he had. The kicked puppy dog look on her face wounded him. They had been on friendly terms for a while before this. Their relationship vastly improving, going from strength to strength. Until, Billy decided to use her. His father's work party was an exclusive event that he had very unfortunately been roped into. A story spun about how he wouldn't be able to attend because he had a date, almost worked until Neil had spat in his face to take the whore with them. Scrambling, he did the best that he could. He had been the perfect gentleman when suggesting the idea to the pretty blonde, red roses clutched firmly in his hand as he gave her his signature smirk.
When the yes finally came, Billy swore he had never been happier. Though not for the reasons that Sophia or Neil would have expected. The night went well, the pair enjoyed themselves and managed to mingle with all of the right people. The arrangement that they had, that only Billy was really aware of worked well for him. He was able to have his girlfriend any time that he needed to make an appearance at his fathers stupid work events, an occasional dinner at his house. Sophia eagerly volunteering to help Susan with the dishes. It was safe to say that the Hargrove-Mayfield family adored having her around. Even Max, who seemed to hate every decision that Billy made had warmed up to her.
The issues came when he found himself at the Harrington residence. Billy was never going to feel comfortable coming out, not in this town and especially not with his father around. Billy had endured enough beatings and enough of his fathers unseasonal rants to know that he would be beaten within an inch of his life if his father even had a suspicion; never mind concrete evidence of his sexuality. Though when it came to one Harrington in particular, Billy couldn't help but not care. Steve Harrington with his perfect hair and perfect face, was sent from some other worldly dimension just to screw with Billy, he was absolutely certain. As the pair shared secret glances, knowing smiles... the blonde couldn't help but slip further into the façade to ensure that they could do this for as long as possible; with no suspicions.
But now, as he stood in front of Sophia her face red and blotchy. Mascara stained tear tracks on her cheeks. He couldn't help but feel awful. For the first time in a really long time the guilt had started to settle in. All the work that he had put into making sure that she felt loved, while inauthentic was still something he wanted her to feel. He just couldn't provide that for her.
"I'm sorry Soph," He finally managed, voice weak and fragile.

Billy Hargrove was no stranger to a drug deal, from the age of thirteen the herbal remedy had infected his lungs. Settling there, warm; like some kind of fucked up hug. Home life never ran smooth for the blonde, the idea of escape seduced him and drugs placated the need until he needed his next hit. Though recently the need for a hit had increased substantially.
Small town life was something he never wanted to experience. The distinctive smell of cow shit, actual cow shit invaded his senses as soon as he arrived in Hawkins. Although he wasn't entirely sure whether the smell offended him as much as the small town mindset. All smiles and fake niceties. To say that it was mind-numbingly suffocating would be the understatement of the century.
The only things that had even attempted to bring him comfort were sex and drugs. Girls were easy to come by, practically throwing themselves at him. Batting eyelashes and lipgloss coated smiles. Sickening. Drugs proved slightly harder. While Billy had been using them to cope for as long as he could remember, the last thing he wanted was for his father to be on his case. It wasn't the Hargrove way to acknowledge problems, never mind trying to placate them so they no longer bothered you. Neil Hargrove would champion that until his demise.
Which is why Billy found himself returning to none other than Eddie Munson time and time again for his weekly drug hit. Eddie was one of the more covert drug dealers, the added bonus of being able to secure the drug deal when he was on school time meant that the suspicions of what Billy was actually doing reduced to practically zero. His father would never know, the only two witnesses being the blonde and brunette. The perfect situation.
What Billy was a stranger to though, was finding his drug dealer in a compromising position with none other than Jason Carver. Captain of the basketball team and all round dickwad. Considering the amount of hatred that they seemed to have held between one another, seeing them locking lips; hands comfortably nestled in each others hair was mind blowing. Conservative small town Hawkins, Indiana housed a surprise that Billy was by no means prepared for.
Carefully, he spat the gum out of his mouth onto the floor below him. Lips curved into what could only resemble a smirk. He approached the boys further. Hands resting deep in his pockets. "Well, well well..." he inhaled, eyes bright he had finally found a golden ticket of leverage. "What have we got here?"
