Ethereal Genesis (Sneak Peek at chapter 2)
“Eijirou would have applauded, but when he looked at Izuku’s face he stopped himself. He had never seen someone look so grief-stricken before. His eyes were empty and unseeing, his cheeks pale and lacking their usual pink pigment. His jaw was clenched and when Eijirou moved a little closer, he noticed small shakes coming from his acquaintance’s hands.”

Interested in a fun My Hero AU?
Want to see our heroes in a completely new scene? Want to explore more in depth characters and relationships we don’t get to see in the show? Maybe you’re interested in seeing the characters fight against an evil dictator to save the tech savvy but dangerous world. If any of these things float your boat, then you might want to read my new fic on a03! The description is as follows:
“Eijirou Kirishima is completely and utterly lost. With no memory and no way to get home, he must figure out how to navigate a city that seems completely foreign to him without dying or getting into trouble. Funny how plans can get ruined so fast.
Izuku Midoriya is tired. After spending his entire life trying to free his city from the terror known as The Baron, he is starting to lose hope that anything will change.
Perhaps all that was needed was a certain redhead who brings a whole new meaning into the picture.”
https://archiveofourown.org/works/35023372/chapters/87231289
Read now and definitely let me know your thoughts! This should be a fun little ride for all of us to go on and who knows what will happen. Hope you tag along for the journey into Ethereal Genesis!

A Feeling Retold with Katsuki Bakugou
People work hard when they want something bad enough. Whether it’s for money, fame, power, or something else entirely, people will do anything given the right motivations.
And it was the same with Katsuki Bakugou.
He worked himself tirelessly every single day, training to be better- to get stronger. There were no breaks, only the push to work harder. The drive to be the best.
It had been a mantra in his head, repeating itself over and over and over again: Push yourself, go beyond, surpass the number 1. If anyone was going to do it, it would be him. And he would do it better than anyone else could.
The sweat, the tears, and the pain would all be worth it when the day came and they announced the number one hero as Katsuki Bakugou.
He wouldn’t mind the ache in his shoulders or the ringing in his ears. The scars littered across his body would be signs of the victories he’d gained and reminders of the villains he crushed. People would see him and be at ease knowing he’d secure the win and take down every bad guy in sight, no problem.
He’d feel the adrenaline pumping through his veins, the burn in his palms, and the wind cutting his face as he launched himself toward villain after villain. They’d tremble before him, knowing full well who he was, and they’d beg for mercy.
And Katsuki would save the day.
And the next day.
And the next.
Cheers would explode down the streets, all applauding their favorite pro-hero: Dynamight. And maybe Katsuki would grab a pen and reluctantly sign autographs for his adoring fans. The press would snap a few pictures of him and the echoes of his victory would be watched for years to come.
But as things happen, dreams and passion can fizzle out. The same rush of a fight can lose the flare that it used to have. The idea of being “The Best” can feel meaningless and tacky. The aches that you swore wouldn’t bother you begin to keep you awake at night, desperately fumbling for the bottle of painkillers that sits almost empty on your bedside table.
There’s no more satisfaction in seeing a bad guy plead for their freedom. The scars are no longer reminders of victory, but painful fights of haunted screams and unnecessary bloodshed.
There were many memories in Katsuki’s mind that replayed on a loop, constantly. The memories began before his days at UA and ran all the way to the present. And no matter how hard he tried, it felt like he couldn’t get out of his own head.
So, in a fit of frustration, he had dragged himself to his best friend’s apartment unannounced and allowed the redhead to fret over him and grab him some water.
They sat across from each other at the counter in the middle of the kitchen. Katsuki watched the rain patter gently on the window, the little droplets cascading down in tiny waterfalls on the outside.
And, in the small space of the kitchen, Eijirou whispered in the smallest voice, words that sounded so loud on Katsuki’s ears.
“Are you sure you still want to be a hero?”
Years ago, he might’ve scoffed at that statement. Of course he wanted to be a hero, what else was there to be?
But, staring down at his calloused palms that had been shaped by years of grueling battles and nonstop training, he took a moment to ponder his friend’s words.
Did he still want to be a hero?
It was a simple yes or no question, but Katsuki couldn’t seem to find an answer.
He had never wanted to be anything else. No one had told him about any other options, either. ‘You’ll make a wonderful hero someday!’ They all said. And Katsuki thought so too- it was all he had ever wanted.
And what a wonderful hero he was.
But he couldn’t find it in him to care.
He had fulfilled the expectation that had been placed on him, maybe even exceeded it. He breathed his work like it was the only thing he had in the world.
Because it was.
Katsuki didn’t know who he was without being a hero. He hadn’t built any other bridges and if he did they were all burnt by now. Years ago, he would have been disgusted if he had been asked to be anything but a hero. It was the only option for him.
What else do I have?
Without any response from Katsuki, the redhead continued.
“You know, you haven’t been the same since high school, I think we’ve all noticed it. It seems to me like you’re just going through the motions, doing what you’re supposed to do.” He paused, looking directly at Katsuki. “But I don’t think you’re happy, Man.”
Tension wound its way into Katsuki’s shoulders and he felt the glass of his cup crack beneath his grip.
“It’s okay, you know? People change, maybe you just need something different for a while. And if you decide you wanna come back, this job will always be happy to have you.”
Katsuki frowned, trying to lessen his grip on the glass as he searched for a response somewhere in his mind. He opened his mouth, closed it, then tried once more, “I- I think I still want to be a hero. Deep down, somewhere. But it just- it doesn’t. It’s not the same as it used to be. Or-” Or maybe it never was.
He trailed off, staring at the water that dripped down the side of his cup and onto the solid counter. Nothing made sense anymore.
Frustration blossomed at his core and spread through his entire being. That’s all he ever seemed to be these days: frustrated.
“You could be burnt out,” Eijirou suggested, grabbing a small towel from the drawers, “Or maybe you just need to be reminded why you’re doing this in the first place.”
He brought the towel to the counter and shoved it towards Katsuki’s leaking glass.
“I mean, why did you wanna be a hero, anyway?”
Why did you wanna be a hero, anyway?
Katsuki froze.
Why did you wanna be a hero, anyway?
His mind reeled, reaching and grasping for the answer that was just on the tip of his tongue.
Why did you wanna be a hero?
He could say that it was because of how cool All Might looked on the TV when he was a child. Or he could say that it was because everyone told him how perfect his quirk was for being a hero. Or maybe it was the way everyone stared at him in awe and groveled at his feet.
Perhaps, it was a combination of all three.
But were any of those reasons enough?
What did that all boil down to?
He wanted to be a hero because it was something that he was good at, something he was capable of.
And he loved it.
For a while.
Would he ever get that same love back?
“Listen, I think more than anything, you probably need a break. I don’t know how long that’ll be, or what you’ll do, but you’ll figure something out. You’ve been going nonstop since we were all kids, and you’ve been putting your entire heart into this thing, with no room for anything else.” Eijirou’s hand found its way to his shoulder. “You don’t have to decide anything right now. And whatever you do end up doing, I’ll support it wholeheartedly. We all just want you to be happy.”
Katsuki stared at his friend for a beat. And then, he felt the burning in his eyes. The years of frustration and heartache expanded in his chest until they couldn’t be contained anymore.
And Eijirou sat, rubbing small circles into his friend’s back while his thoughts all fought viciously with each other in his head.
But no matter what the final outcome was, he would be alright.
He would be alright.

A Splash of Green
Ochako tucks a strand of hair behind her ear, admiring the work that she’s accomplished in the few hours that she’d been in the library. She’d been trying to experiment with the new watercolors she received as a gift from one of her close friends, but watercolors aren’t exactly her forte.
Placing down the brush she held between her fingers, Ochako lets out a sigh. Careful not to smudge her new work, she reaches out to grab her phone. She grimaces when she notices that there are no new notifications, not that she expected any, but it’s always disappointing seeing nothing but the soft glow of her lockscreen stare back at her.
She decides that she’s done enough work for today and lets her phone slide into her back pocket. As Ochako packs her supplies up, she realizes that it may not have been the best idea to do watercolors away from her dorm. The painting hadn’t had any time to dry, and she would be forced to carry the dripping canvas back to her building without smearing or dropping it.
She thinks that maybe she could just wait in the library, but she doesn’t really want to. Despite that, she’s also extremely hungry.
Ochako chews on her lip, weighing her options. She’s about to just go and ask the librarian to keep the piece until she can come retrieve it when she spots a tuft of dark curls peeking out from behind a library cart.
“Do you want me to put all of these back, Mrs. G?” Asks the tuft of hair.
“No no! I can take care of that, sweetheart. You’ve already been a great help, thank you.”
Ochako watches as the librarian (Presumably, Mrs. G) gently grabs the cart from the hair tuft and ushers it away. Ochako feels her stomach lurch when the tuft of hair turns into a shy looking boy with emeralds in his eyes and a light dusting of freckles across his checks. His hand comes behind his neck as he tries to persuade the librarian to just let him complete the task for her, but she’s already walking away.
The boy shakes his head, lifting his eyes to meet hers-
Ochako yelps as paint water coats her arm, the table, and everything within reach (including her new watercolor). Way to play it cool, she thinks to herself, bitterly. She frowns and goes to pick up the cup that had been so cruelly placed right next to her elbow moments prior, but before she could grab it, another hand had already snaked its way around the cup and placed it back to its spot on the table.
“Are you alright? I can go grab some paper towels.”
Ochako glances up, meets those emerald eyes and immediately freezes. He’s way closer than he was before, and she could clearly make out the scent of peppermint and vanilla. He’s looking at her with such honest concern that it makes her heart do a backflip, and her mouth dries up.
“Uhh-” She responds eloquently.
He blinks once and gives her a shy smile, “I’m sorry, it’s just that you looked like you might need some help, and-” his eyes land on her watered down watercolor, “Oh… wow. Did you make this?! I mean of course you made it, you have all the supplies and you’re the only one sitting here, dumb question, but this is amazing! I always wanted to learn how to do stuff like this, but I’ve just never convinced myself to put in the time. Are you an art major by any chance?”
He’s still staring in awe at the ruined artwork and Ochako is trying to make sense of everything he just said. Amazing? This is pretty much the first time she’d tried to use watercolor, so it hadn’t gone that great. Besides that, it was now splotchy and weirdly blended because of the extra water added before it could properly dry. Amazing is not a word she would use to describe this particular piece.
The boy glances at her nervously and cocks an eyebrow, and she remembers that he had asked her a question, “Sorry! Yeah, uhm. Yes, I am an art major.” She shifts on her feet awkwardly and shrinks in on herself. She isn’t normally like this, what is this guy doing to her?
He nods his head as he reaches to remove her soaked supplies from the mess, but before she could stop him and say she could do it herself, he starts speaking again, “You’re very talented! I’m a sophomore majoring in journalism, Izuku Midoriya!” He extends his free hand out to her.
Ochako feels the corners of her mouth turn up slightly as she grabs his hand in hers, “I’m Ochako Uraraka, also a sophomore.”
Izuku drops his hand from hers, and she already misses the warmth. Her hand seemed to fit so easily in his. He gestures vaguely to the soaked brushes that he’s holding, “So, what do you want me to do with these? I can take them to the bathroom and dry them off.”
“Oh!” Ochako knows that even if he left to go dry the brushes he would have to come back and return them to her, but some part of her doesn’t want this conversation to end just yet. “That would be awesome, thanks!” She wants to kick herself.
He just smiles and then takes something out of his pocket. Ah, it’s his phone. Izuku unlocks it and offers it to her, “Here! Why don’t you put your number in here? That way I can find you after I get the paper towels.”
Ochako beams as she takes the phone from his hands, letting their fingers brush together. As she begins to add herself as a new contact, she thinks that maybe she should invest in some more watercolors.
