Sometimes life amazes me when I look backwards. When I think about just how long we’ve known each other, held each other. Loved each other.

It doesn’t surprise me though. You’re just part of me, and I’m part of you. We’ve always been one unit, since the day we met. My life is only my life when I’m living it next to you.

I’m so thankful that you married me. I’m so proud of our family. Our ducklings: our boys.

Happy birthday to the love of my life.

I will always remember the day we met, how you looked over at me, the new kid, across the hall. You came over and introduced yourself and I wanted to kiss you that very same moment.

That seems like a lifetime ago. Now we’re married. We’re parents. We have a home and a dog and you’re still my best friend.

It’s been a few days now, and I still scarcely know what to say. Even finding these photos has sent me into tears again.

When I was 9 years old, you came home. Six weeks, a tiny puppy with floppy ears and giant floppy feet. I thought Artemis would be so displeased with a puppy around, being nearly 10 years old and having lived more life than any dog. But she loved you.

We all did. When the girls came around, you were a fierce protector; you were all babies together. Like me and Artie. But somehow, I always ended up with you in my bed.

You followed me everywhere. Always at my feet, always at my side. When we lost Artemis, you refused to leave me for even a second.

I know it’s understood that a faithful dog is a blessing to any person, but what we shared was something far deeper. The way you understood every single thing I felt. The way you listened, intently, to every word I had to share. The way you always knew how and when to comfort me… Nothing will ever replace that.

I’m so glad you got to meet little Cooper. I’m so proud you got to meet my son. I’m so honoured and so proud to have grown up next to you. To have had the love of such an inexplicably beautiful soul.

Thank you, Apollo. Thank you for loving me. Thank you for sticking by me for nearly 15 years.

Today, we got married.

My dearest Elijah, I’m not good at these long sappy posts or really, strangely, expressing myself when not in song lyrics, but I’ll do my best.

I knew from the moment I saw you, standing alone on your first day, putting books into your locker, that id be by your side forever. I heard so much. Was told so much about you, about the Shelbys and I never liked listening. You were young, you were a kid, just trying on the world for size. I’d been there. It was scary, it was uncomfortable, and I couldn’t imagine what it was like for you, someone that had his fathers last name and “reputation” on your shoulders. Lots of people told me to stay away.

I didn’t listen. Clearly. I saw your pretty eyes and I knew you weren’t like what they were saying. I had to say hi, my heart compelled me. I needed you to know that the world, while cruel and cold on most occasions, wasnt always so. I needed you to be welcomed. I needed to welcome you. So I said hi, much to the dismay of my friends. And I’m so glad I did, None of them are here or my friends anymore, but you…you’re my world.

I married you today. My husband, my Elijah. I’ve waited so long for this day and I knew it would come when we were both ready and the world would give us our sign. I had no doubts. No worries. No fears.

I will be by your side forever. Till death and beyond. My soul, my heart, my husband. I’ll never get tired of that.
