âIâm sure you do.â He took another sip of his drink while eyeing at Emmaâs cocky expressions, âyouâre humorous arenât you, I do like that. Though as much as I do enjoy mind teasers, Iâm not sure if I can say that you fit my taste.â He replied, âIâll give you a chance to entertain me.â
âLikewise.â He shot back at her calmly as he made eye contact with her, as infuriating as Emma can manage to be, she does have a quite interesting presentation that makes her hard to ignore. âThat sounds awfully underwhelming,â he commented and continued sarcastically, âand I thought youâd never bother to ask. It was around five years ago, found out I can control magnetism and decide to conquer the world.â
âI know all about self-worth.â She also knew about lack of self-worth. She then smirked as she sipped her drink. âSo, what are you into? Besides me of course.â Emma asked him confidently. âI do but I shouldnât have to explain yourself for you, no matter how funny it would be.â She said, sipping her drink once more before making a small sound of humor.
âYou are one to talk. Perhaps you are mistaking your ego for intelligence.â Emma retorted, running the tip of her index finger over the rim of her glass. âHeadaches, yadda yadda. Thought I was going crazy. Awkward looks due to puberty, all that nonsense. Hardly interesting. When did you find out you couldâŚwhat is it do you do?â

âI did imagine it to clash with your style.â He said while turning away from Loki to purchase a ticket for both of them, if only heâd be a telepath and an dishonest citizen heâd be able to skip this whole step he thought.
âHere you go, champ. No backing out now.â He handed Loki the ticket and led him to the line up of the ride, curious to see Lokiâs expression, he decided to tease him a little. âYouâre not nervous are you?â
Swirl and Hurl
Loki did not answer thereby not giving his consent, but did walk beside Erik to the ticket booth. How mundane to be forced to purchase tickets instead of just purchasing admission at the ride itself. A confusing business model unless the operators really were that untrustworthy which did nothing to help the reputation of the contraptions. âSomeone should inform the âcarnival aestheticâ should be reconsidered.â It was loud and smelled greasy with far too much flash and roar. Pure cacophony.

âSuperior homo? Really?â it was hard to keep the facial muscles completely still when hearing that, âyea well, close enough.â At least it sounded better than Homo Erectus. âI see, well was more curious about how far you can travel, like can you blink to the other side of the world or something? Imagine all the travel funds you can save.â Now wouldnât that be useful, he thought, as he deemed Illyana worthy of an alliance.
âNot sure I can do it justice by summing it up in two sentences dear, but yes, puberty... a difficult time for us all, thatâs when it started for meâ he said in a tone full of irony. He doesnât wish to lie to anyone about his past but neither is he eager to cast a shadow on his character, not when he wishes to get on the good side of people. âIâd say itâs hard to believe that you could just learn magic... but thatâs not really convincing anymore, is it? Whyâd you come here then? Never received your Hogwarts letter?â He joked with her, âin all seriousness though, Iâm interested.â
âThat was never a problem for me because of the whole genetic bit. Always was a good chance of becoming a superior homo⌠That wasnât right, was it? Eh, close enough.â How the heck was she supposed to deal with all these dumb technical terms? More of these were being thrown around. âArea of effect? Uh, I could probably bring about six other people with me on a stepping disc safely, but just me if Iâm tired. I think I could get it much bigger when Iâm older.â
âUhm, no, the magicâs learned. I started learning when I was a little kid,â Illyana said, honest but unwilling to spare the disturbing details. âSo how old were you when you got your mutation? If it was long enough ago for you to think you were the only one, but blah blah blah puberty. Whatâs your superpowered life story in two sentences?â

âVery much into science then, arenât you.â He listened to Peter as he went on with his story, it sounds so much like a classic experiment gone wrong, he would have thought that he was joking. âSounds like youâve been having lots of productive fun, though my roommate is absent so far...â it was then that he remembered the suspicious looking black marks on his ceiling. He did not think much of it as there is enough odd stuff going on in this academy, though as he connected the dots, he might have just figured out the mystery that is the identity of his roommate.Â
âIâm not familiar with the application process of this place, but I guess I can assume that you are no ordinary intellectual. And well, I can manipulate magnetism, toss around metal with my mind,â he looked at him, âyouâd have figured it out sooner or later, roomie. So are you the missing in action 107 resident?â
âOh I have plenty of ambition. This one time, with my old roommate I was working on a formula that..â He paused and pondered his next word for about three seconds. The formula had been for his webbing a stronger sticky type. âThat could bond any two types of material. No matter what they were.â It was a good enough explanation for him, although what he described was super glue. âBut sadly the experiment went awry and set a fire in the kitchen area. Thereâs still some black marks on the ceiling of my dorm, I even had to brake a window open.â Peter smiled.
âRecruited? Interesting. Iâm really only here for education. Needed something a bit harder. NYU just didnât cut it.â It was a small lie, SHIELD promised to keep his identity secret as long as he didnât cause trouble, but obviously that was asking too much. âWhat kind of abilities do you have? If you donât mind me asking?â Peter knew not to pry too much, especially with someone new. Except it didnât always work out that way.

âYou are the last person I want to hear telling me about over evaluating self worth. Also, I wouldnât consider myself into that, kink.â He put it bluntly as he ordered a Schwarzbier, ânow thatâs an interesting statement. I think you know exactly what I mean.â He glanced at her after taking a sip from his drink, it was more bitter than he expected, he was almost tempted to laugh at that.
âNo offence,â he told her sarcastically, of course he did mean to attack her passively, âyou do seem like you are overcompensating.â He scanned her, and for some reasons, he feels a hint that she may actually be quite similar to him in certain regards. Just vastly different presentation.Â
âSo, Miss Frost. When did you find out youâre a psychic?â
âI think if I got into your head as much as you think I am going to then perhaps you think it is worth more than it actually is or you just like the idea of me in there, rummaging through that mess.â She muttered dryly before ordering an apple martini. âYou speak about them like you are not one of them.â Emma said to him, looking over at him. However, she shared the same attitude he did in that regard.
âOf course I am. This is my forte.â She replied, looking around again before looking back at him. âDo I give cause to make you assume Iâm not?â She asked, sipping her drink.

âIâm sure you arenât. And ah yes, the flashy deco is supposed to fit the carnival aesthetic, thatâs more or less a matter of taste.â Erik had actually never been on rides at carnivals or amusement parks like these, but surely it canât be too bad. Even if he ended up somehow not able to stomach it, he technically could freeze the whole ride as his out of the jail free card. âSure, why not. Got nothing to lose. Iâll get you a ticket.â
Swirl and Hurl
âI am no stranger to fun, indeed in some cases I invented it, but this does not seem to fit that description. I have spied five varieties of this same swirling contraption with the primary different being the colors.â Honestly, there had to be some more creativity in the Midgardianâs mind. He considered Erik. âDo you plan to partake?â

âHa, right, was about to say that. Guess I can count on you to get me out of trouble?â he responded in a friendly tone without trying to seem pushy to the boy. However at that realisation, he started to feel bad for the poor guy, imagine the kind of trouble all these super humans could cause, that ainât something any old lawyer can handle. âWell, yea. And, well, I was about to go grab myself some snack.â He turned his head towards the booth from not far away selling good old carnival sweets, and this is when he noticed a staff walking by posting up a missing personâs poster. âHey, someoneâs missing. You knew anything about that?â
Matt tilted his head. Why would he consider this on him once it was the ginger himself who pointed out there was something strange on that place? They had all sorts of people on that place, and every now and then one would make him curious. âThatâs most like Furyâs plan. But if you have an army, you can sure make use of some good lawyers, donât yâthink?â Matt smiled, trying his best not to drag much attention to himself, the last thing he needed was someone nosing on why he was in the Academy in first place. âYou found time on your schedule to visit the carnival, and so did I. So I guess you are right.â

âI sense some history,â he teased, though he also starts to find their deed questionable as he does not intend to get on Lokiâs bad side. He hasnât seen it yet, and everything is telling him that it should stay that way.
He approached the door and brushed his hand over the lock, to his surprise, he did not sense any enchantments or anything like that, just a regular albeit heavy metal lock like the one for his room. So much for being a school for super powered people, thought theyâd make the dorms more secure. With relative ease, he worked the lock out and unlocked the door carefully, keeping his senses alert. Though something does feel off and he couldnât explain it, he turned to Carol before opening the door, âis it just me, or something doesnât feel right?â
âMagical frogs go back to their magic source and on the off chance he didnât do it, well Iâm sure he deserves it somehow.â Of course if he did not actually do it then they were about to start a prank war she did not want to think about. âPietro is in the first I think. Thatâs usually where his streak disappears. Can you just pop the lock and weâll take a peak inside before leaving our justice behind?â No point leaving it in the room of innocents. Sure it would be funny, but that made her no better than Loki.

Erik groaned as he tries to adjust himself to a more comfortable position. Bucky doesnât seem to be furious or anything so perhaps he could just play it smooth and let everything slide.Â
âYea... I,â he choked as he tried to hold in a cough so he wouldnât spit in Buckyâs face, â... how long have I...â he blinked as his eyes felt irritated and wet. Choking, in pain, filled with tears and in another manâs bed, way to mark one of his first âshit I did in collegeâ if he were ever to share his story with someone.Â
âThat would be... nice, thanks.â he replied to Buckyâs offer as he rubbed his eyes, still trying to get rid of the irritation, hoping that the tears were caused by yawning or something. It took a while before he noticed the mess in the room, though he didnât immediately realise that he had been the one that caused it. âUmm... what...â he said meekly as he tries to look around the room, feeling a bit startled.Â
James had been staring into nothing as he let his thoughts roam free, hoping that he would soon feel tired. He barely took notice of Erik turning towards him. But the faint voice which called his name made him roll to his side to face the source.Â
âUh, yeah.â James replied, âYouâre finally awake. Thatâs good.â It was a relief to know Erik hadnât slipped into a coma or something. Now that he was conscious, James wondered where to start. Since he was unsure of how to deal with Erik, James decided to wait with the questions he had. For now, he would just tend to the immediate needs for someone who had a hungover. âThereâs fresh water in a bottle beside the bed if youâre thirsty.â

âHm, you come forth as being more optimistic than that, though I donât disagree. Still, should have some ambition.â he commented, not wanting to sound like he knows better or anything, heâs just not so willing to accept yet that thereâs nothing he could do to fight against the âcruel realityâ that heâs experienced so far.
âYea well, clearly, Iâm not a professional one,â he teased the other as he grinned. âI was recruited, I guess,â he paused, not wanting to go into any sort of explanation, he is grateful that Fury and the inside people have kept his privacy and it has surely made his life easier integrating into this academy. âYou know, having abilities and such. And you?â
âUnfortunately, every dream has to end sometime.â Peter didnât mean to sound like a pessimist or even a jerk. He just tried to be a realist from time to time. As this point in his life, heâd known not to hold onto to every dream. There was such thing as hope for him. Except it usually ended with him fighting to his last breath.
Peter sighed in relief and let out a smile from the corner of his mouth. âWell atleast you have a name. Itâd be terrible to know I have a stalker and never know their name.â He lightly laughed wanting to follow the library rules even at this hour. The thought of someone else in the building with them crossed his mind, but he had been there so many times at this time that it was surprise he finally found someone besides himself. âSo tell me Erik, what brings you to this school? Or are you simply visiting us?â

âWell you donât really have to resort to mind reading to figure out my thoughts on that. Do you?â Erik glared back at Emma, more mockery than hostility. He also doesnât need the ability to mind read to figure out that Emma is purposely taunting him and toying him around seeing when heâll lose it. He stood there as Emma surveyed the ground like sheâs looking for a victim, by her gesture and attitude he could confirm for sure now that she is from some extremely high class background.
âHumanity, how fascinating,â he commented with obvious sarcasm at Emmaâs words. âI will admit however, you probably are better than me at this. Though are you sure you are emotionally stable enough yourself?â he teased her.
âSee, you are far more adorable when you do what you are told.â Emma teased in a similar tone that was a mix of flirtation yet also taunting, as if daring him to lose his cool. âObviously.â Emma agreed when he commented that this sort of thing hardly aligned with himself. Emma looked around as if looking for prey before she stopped and smirked. âNetworking.â She told him before gesturing at him to follow. âWhen youâre filthy rich, no one cares if you are okay or even emotionally stable. What they want to know is your dirty little secrets and how they can use it to advance themselves, whether socially or economically or both.â Emma stopped and looked at him when they got to the bar. âPerhaps I can teach you.â
