I-TALK #149 : 'Super Lady' M/V shooting behind PART 1

doah doesn’t know how to feel about her career these days—which is surprising, for someone as emotionally-driven as shin doah.

 it feels strange to be here, to say the least. doah isn’t sure she should feel happy about getting this opportunity—sure, she’s grateful for the chance to perform, but, deep down, doah knows this performance is nothing more than an attempt to pacify her. she’s spent the last year in-and-out of meetings with the executives, in hopes she could convince them to give her another solo album. of course, all her pleading fell on deaf ears��and she was shooed out of the office each time. they’d tell her to come back next month, and the next month, and the next. but now that contract renewals are on the horizon, the company’s dangling opportunities in front of her again—what they’re doing is so laughably transparent that doah almost felt like she should refuse the offer—to stick it to the man, or however the saying goes. maybe if she refused enough of these opportunities, they’d get more desperate—offer her the one thing she really wants. but, unfortunately, shin doah doesn’t have much of a backbone.

 still, doah would be lying if she said she didn’t feel happy to be here. she’s certainly not about to shower the company with any extravagant displays of gratitude—but she’s happy to be on stage again, performing her songs for her fans. doah has always felt more comfortable standing on stage alone than she does with her groupmates—and after everything that’s transpired between her and hayoon, being forced to share the stage with her members feels pretty fucking tortorus. so, all things considered, doah figures she should feel happy to be here—and that she should use this opportunity to prove to the company that she’s worth more than the pitiful opportunities they keep trying to pacify her with. 

shin doah would be damned if she walked away from contract renewals without getting everything she wanted.

and that’s why doah’s spent the past month-and-a-half making sure everything about this performance was perfect—working closely with haute pink’s stylist to find the most eye-catching, jaw-dropping, headline-making outfit; paying close attention to her diet, and practicing the setlist over, and over, and over again.

her performance came to an end about fifteen minutes ago—and doah feels good. doah looked good, sounded good, and the crowd was loud and full of energy—and it’s been far too long since doah’s heard fanchants meant just for her.

and she’ll probably never admit this to jihan—but his presence at this festival means a lot to her. and if she were to be honest with herself, she’d admit that it actually means the world to her—but doah isn’t entirely ready to admit that yet. 

but his friendship really does mean the world to her, and it’s why doah can’t help the beaming smile that tugs at her lips when she sees jihan weaving through the crowd—that is until she realizes he’s laughing at her, and the beam is quickly replaced with a childish glare and one of her signature pouts. but before doah can interrogate him about his laughter, a hello kitty to-go box is shoved into her hands—and the box’s printed exterior is enough to coax a genuine smile back to her lips. jihan says he found it on the ground, and her smile almost drops—until her narrowed eyes give the box another once-over, and she realizes he’s bluffing, like always. 

“you expect me to believe you found this on the ground without a single speck of dirt?” a scoff leaves bubblegum lips, and she shakes her head at him—manicured fingers gently prying the to-go box open. the donut’s cute appearance elicits a small giggle from her—and she lifts her gaze to lock eyes with jihan, biting back another beaming smile. “thank you,” she says, and she means it—but embarrassment starts to creep in when she realizes how fucking sappy she sounds. most of the vulnerable moments the two have shared have been under the influence of several bottles of fruit soju, and doah isn’t entirely sure how to navigate these moments sober—let alone in the middle of a public festival. 

but doah decides not to dwell on it. instead, she reaches into the to-go box and takes out the raspberry donut—and a small pout envelops her glossed lips as she stares at the kitty-shaped donut. “it’s too cute to eat,” she whines. without another word, she places the pastry back into the box and hands it to jihan—the pout on her lips deepening as she looks at him expectantly. “you take the first bite. i don’t want to be the one to ruin it…”

there's just something about shin doah.

she's probably the only person who could've convinced jihan to come to this stupid fucking festival, and she really didn't have to do much convincing at all. a you're coming to see me, right? and a pout, and she had him wrapped around her finger. at the time, he'd refused to give a definitive answer - not because he wasn't sure if he could make himself available (he knew he could, and he knew he would), but because he likes how she wears her emotions on her sleeve. he has a tendency to act fickle with her, to roll his eyes and turn away, but she has the upper hand with him as she always has.

she has a way of making him feel like an idiot without trying. not that he'd ever tell her as much - he figures she wouldn't get it, and she'd just pout at him and ask what's that supposed to mean? under the assumption that he was making fun of her somehow. he feels like an idiot now as he stands in a restricted zone waiting for her to meet him. he's holding a stupid fucking hello kitty raspberry donut in a stupid fucking hello kitty to-go box because when he'd walked past the booth, he'd felt like it was something doah might like, what with all of those fruity sojus she's made him drink over the years and he didn't really think she'd buy herself one even if it is something she'd like. it's a never-ending guessing game with her, anyway.

still, as annoyed as he can pretend to be that he's here on a day that he could be kicked back at home, he can't help but laugh when he sees her. as always, she's a shining caricature - as beautiful as she is, there's something funny about her. and it's the funny thing that makes him care about her as much as he does.

"i brought you a donut," he says, no greeting prefacing it. he has half the mind to tell her she did a good job with her performance because that's what a good friend would do (and because it's true, and because if she's in one of her moods, she probably needs to hear it), but he holds back the praise for now. instead, straight-faced, he adds: "honestly, i found it on the ground - but it's in a box, so i'm sure it's fine." he shrugs, dusts off the side of the pristine, not-found-on-the-ground box and holds it out to her.

my hiatus finally ends today (for real this time!) and i'm really itching to get back into plotting and threading but would especially love to get some event threads going! i've got doah going to seokchon, everland, and the allure korea charity brunch, bliss at seokchon and jinhae, and chaea will only be found performing and attending the dazed korea party cuz she's not family-friendly enough for anything else 💀 so please 🩷 this post if you'd like to cook up something fun for the spring fling event, and i'll come to u asap 🌸💐🐣

it’s march 13th—the day before white day. doah’s exhausted after the fourteen-hour flight back from milan fashion week, but even her exhaustion can’t prevent her from celebrating the holiday by lounging on her couch with a romantic comedy playing on her television—wallowing in her own self-pity while endlessly shovelling chocolates into her mouth. chocolates she unfortunately had to buy herself.

doah doesn’t like to be reminded that she’s single. call her desperate, call her needy, call her co-dependent—she’ll likely admit to all of it. doah’s always been somewhat of a hopeless romantic, and she’s never been ashamed of it—for the most part, anyway. love, money, and fame—those are the three things doah wants the most in life. so, holidays like this that remind her that she’s painfully single irritate her to no end. still, she likes to celebrate them in her own way—usually by self-inserting herself into her favorite romantic comedy and stuffing her face with her favorite candy.

so, that was doah’s plan for tonight. haute pink leaves for manila tomorrow night, which means doah has less than twenty-four hours to enjoy some alone time—and less than twenty-fours to find some way to keep herself calm during the next four days.

but just as matthew mcconaughey leans in to steal a kiss from kate hudson, a loud ding! from her phone pulls her out of her self-insert fantasy. there’s already a pout tugging at her lips as she reaches for her phone—which only deepens when doah sees the name behind the notification. 

han seowon.

doah scowls as she glares down at her phone—irritation coloring her features as she debates swiping the notification away and putting her phone on mute. you see, doah thought there was a little something between the two of them—something fun, something flirtatious. when seowon promised to “make it up to her,” doah had expected him to keep that promise—but all seowon had done since that day was reject her every attempt to flirt with him. and sure, doah knows that not everyone will like her—even if she doesn’t understand why someone wouldn’t—but she was under the impression seowon wanted to flirt with her. he asked her about the kind of men she dated, asked her for her number, promised to make it up to her—what kind of person would lead a pretty girl on like this? doah starts to wonder how seowon even got that “nation’s boyfriend” title—does he treat his fans like this, too?

so, she debates ignoring his text and going back to her movie—but she can’t ignore the curiosity that gnaws at her as she glares down at her phone. what could seowon possibly have to say to her at this hour? there’s a small huff that leaves her lips as she unlocks her phone—feeling even more annoyed by how curious seowon has made her. her eyes scan the contents of his message over, and over, and over again—brows furrowing as she thinks about what his text could possibly mean.

doah tries to make sense of his request, but she can’t. seowon has spent the last two weeks brushing off her flirtations and leaving her on delivered—and now he’s suddenly calling her to the company building at midnight? if she had a little more willpower, she’d ignore his message and go back to her movie—but doah’s never had much willpower. so, she pauses the movie on matthew mcconaughey’s perfect face—lifting herself off the couch with an exaggerated sigh. she gives herself an once-over in the mirror that sits in her foyer—dabbing a smidge of tinted balm to her lips and slipping a jacket over her pajamas. briefly, she debates getting changed, but ultimately decides against it. if you don't look too hard, the pajamas she’s wearing could pass as cute athletic wear—and she doubts the company building will be crowded this late at night, so she decides not to bother. besides, seowon’s made it painfully obvious that he’s not interested in her—so why would she bother looking pretty for him?

the cab she calls gets her to the company headquarters in a little under twenty minutes—and she’s greeted with a gust of cold air when she steps out of the car. she wraps her arms tight around her torso as she scurries into the building—already sporting an irritated expression. she pulls out her phone to text seowon, trying her very best to suppress the pout that tugs at her lips.

crybaby open starter (for non-haute pink members)

it’s not quite comeback season, but it damn near feels like it with the amount of schedules midas music has shoved haute pink into—and honestly speaking? doah’s less than thrilled to spend this much time with her members. their seventh anniversary is approaching, and doah knows that means sappy, sugary-sweet group content to reassure their fans that contract renewals are going just fine, but having to pretend like one of her members isn’t a backstabbing bitch is pretty fucking exhausting. and the cherry on top of all of this? the backstabbing bitch in question is the member hauties think she’s the closest to—and to suddenly distance herself from hani would send the fandom into a complete and utter panic, so doah has no choice but to dance with the devil. 

sometimes, the devil is a five-foot-six bottle blonde.

but playing pretend is so fucking exhausting—and doah can feel her stress level rising with every second they spend together. and as if things couldn’t get any worse, she noticed a pimple on her jawline this morning. so, doah thinks she should spend her day-off doing some much-needed self-care—and what better way to treat yourself than to a marathon of your favorite romantic comedies? 

and luckily for doah, there’s a cinema near her apartment complex that happens to be screening some of her favorite films. maybe, just maybe, there is a god—and maybe he likes doah a little more today. so, doah catches a cab to the cinema—pulls her cap down over her eyes and buries her face in her turtleneck, quietly secures herself a small popcorn and a drink, and settles into the back row of the theater. the first movie starts, and doah notices she has the theater to herself—a realization that makes her remove her cap and lower her turtleneck. and since she has the theater to herself, doah doesn’t hide her reactions—letting out girlish giggles and audible gasps at every kiss scene.

but for some reason, doah finds herself crying at the end of the first film. she isn’t entirely sure why—but the credits begin to roll, and a loud sob bubbles past her lips. doah’s hands immediately raise to cover her face—letting out a string of muffled sobs as she hides behind her palms. 

doah realizes she isn’t alone when someone reaches out, touches her arm, and hands her a napkin. she lowers her palms from her tear-stained face—a scarlet flush decorating her cheeks. sheepishly, she accepts the napkin—dabbing at her damp cheeks while avoiding their eyes.

“i didn’t think anyone else was here.”

a sniffle, followed by a brief pause. her gaze suddenly flickers upwards—and she glares up at them, a small scowl enveloping glossed lips.

“if you tell anyone you saw me crying like this, i’ll kill you.”
