Conte drawings
My most recent project in my drawing class was drawings using conte techniques, where I had to attempt to draw something without using any sort of line or sketch.
I used charcoal and chalk from Blick, as well as toned paper from there to complete this assignment.
I did two studies on grey paper using both black and white to study how light and shadow effect an object, and then two on block paper using only white to focus more on the light.
I struggled quite a bit on the grey paper studies- I found working without a sketch difficult. The black paper was much easier to work on, and I really enjoyed the final results on it. I did my final, larger piece on the black paper. I used a reference photo of lemons for it, and although it could have been cleaner (I had a hard time keeping the chalk from smudging), I was very happy with it

Perspective Drawing
For this project, I decided to do a timelapse of the main piece, rather than taking pictures. I did a two point perspective drawing of this screenshot from Red Dead Redemption Two.
I did this sketch first, as well as several using other screenshots.
I didn't use a ruler for these, although most people do, as I feel like a ruler makes the lines feel too straight and unnatural looking. I started every sketch and the final with my lightest pencil, and moved up as I worked to darker pencils.
I used these Blick pencils, as well as my sketchbook and a piece of illustration board for the final. All supplies were purchased at Blick, but should be available at any art store.

Line Drawing Blog Post
This is the second blog post I'll be doing for my drawing class. This time my project was to do a series of contour drawings, ending in a final 18x24 inch modulated line drawing. I enjoyed this project a lot more than the last one, as this was definitely more in my comfort zone of sketchy drawings.
I used the same set of pencils as in the last project, as well as the same illustration board
(Blick brand pencils, Crescent brand illustration board, both purchased at Blick)
This was one of the first pages I did to practice for this project, with two blind contours and one continuous line contour of my shoe.
I also did this page with two cross contours. I really enjoyed the one of my hand.
After those pages of sketches and practice, I jumped into the actual sketches for the main project itself. I was using, for the most part, the same objects as I had been in the last project, although I added a plastic cup in this first one, and ended up getting rid of the purse in the other two 9x12 sketches before the final.
I actually think I like this sketch better than the final, but I feel like that's the plight of an artist. It's mostly because the 18x24 inch final piece is MUCH larger than I'm used to working at- I usually work digitally, and my ipad screen is about 7x9 inches or so, and when I do work in a sketchbook, I don't usually do full page illustrations. Even the 9x12 was a little larger than I'm used to, but I think it was a good challenge.
I could have sworn I took progress photos as I did the final, but I can't for the life of me find them, so an explanation will have to do.
I did the initial sketch in the hardest pencil I had- 10H, but whatever the hardest pencil available was would have worked well. As I layered up detail, I went with softer and softer pencils to create darker lines and to give the drawing a sense of depth.
I chose not to use pens on this piece, although I know some others did. I liked the pencil sketch look.

Hella old warm-up piece I did for Selina like a million years ago. I have so much backlog art that I've never posted to Tumblr so I will be sprinkling those in every now and then.

Painting I started about 1,5 years ago by now and never managed to finish. I love this concept SO much though that I feel like it’s a shame not to post it 👍

This is so cool I’d read a whole comic about this
Prompt: Magical Creatures! An adventurer who retired to take care of the "monstrous" creatures their fellows maimed and harmed, rehabilitating them and helping them back into the wilds. She's gotten a few scars and lost an eye to the work but she holds no grudges! She loves these lovely creatures! Her nieces that're here for the weekend to visit their...eccentric aunt are a little split on how to feel about the whole thing. Commission info in the source!
