This is the steps of evolutions I went through from raw image to a final piece. I’m not sure what the story on this particular one:
There are rumors of fey out at Glacier Ridge.
l had trekked out to glacier ridge as I had done so quite often in the preceding weeks. It was quite the sight to behold as winter’s greys and browns were overtaken by lush greens and vibrant ponds. Life seemed to be bursting forth from everywhere one could look. I was trying desperately to keep up with the multitudes of birds flitting about. Swallows, sparrows, and others were competing for all sorts of reasons and the breeze was awash in the sounds of bird calls. I stopped for a few to recuperate after a day in the sun at a lone station. Sitting upon the ease of the roof was a lone Barn Swallow. When it looked at me, I knew it was different. There was something in its eye, an epic of great conflicts and greater passions. It was the bearer of the word “Peck,” and this was an honor that it had earned and a penance that it must carry.
It gazed upon me and then took to the air.

I have a gallery coming soon of the images I took with my first two rolls of actual film. I need to figure out which ones I wish to publish and how to best go about it. When I go to do that, it will be on @eddieverite and will have details on the process.
If you are interested in how to reload a camera, I published a video on my YouTube channel for how to reload the Olympus XA

And the quick version

Some quick bts with what I’m working towards. I’m still figuring things out, but the office cat is well, involved. She’s all about the material process.

Jesus, it’s been months! I have definitely been lacking on getting posts done, so here we go!
This criminal has taken my blade…

Oh gods, it’s been a month since the last time I posted! I swear I have been trying to actually work on camera stuff and film stuff and have been running a little bit slower on it than I want. I do have some test stills of my current set up for a upcoming project. Code name: “Konbanwa” needs a bit of a faux 1980s news look. Cheap, bad quality, but ultimately I’m trying to make it decent.
The big concern with it is getting it to work in my tiny apartment given the space I have. The first thing was needing a backdrop that would look decent enough but like be adjustable. My solution cost next to nothing. It’s not great, but it’s a funny start.
It’s a shame it kinda looks a little too accurate so I might need to adjust it. But a single light stand with a Godox sl60 light shining through a sheet of foam core. I cut out the map layout by eye and exacto knife.
The point….
To get something like this.
This is closer to the intent I’m after. Again it’s basic, all of this is relatively raw, but it works well enough for now.
This set up also has a fill light in front and low, as to help with errant shadows on my face and I have a Godox Sl60 shooting through fresnel lens by aperture. It’s pretty decent. I’m a little drowned out at 500 iso, but I’m planning on dropping to 100 iso and will need to decide if I am gonna shoot at 30 fps with 1/60 shutter speed.
The goal is to be even, a little basic, but I will still figure out a way to make this compelling. The final shot was just an attempt to get a read on space for adding in an overlay of the story I’m covering.
Finally this a funny mock up for an intro graphic I’m working on for this project. It looks just decent enough, it’s reminiscent of the 70s and 80s while have some charm to it. I think pairing it with a red tinted black and dulling out my colors will really sell the effect. I could go the extra mile and include a slight shadow on one of the frames but that’s a deep cut joke that I doubt most people would even know what I’m talking about when I go to explain it….
Anyways, I’m hoping to have a video up by Saturday! If not, maybe I will post some production stuff instead.
Take it easy!

As a quick bit: Kitten!
I do love her, but she can be quite the handful. This terrible monster taking on toes, cables, and tripod legs can be quite difficult to photograph. Like an elusive cryptid, photos are already blurry. Yet, through perseverance and a strong grip, I have achieved the impossible. I got a clear photo!

Ahh, I forgot to post!
I am barely into trying this and I am already forgetting to post new information and what I have been working on.
Friday, I decided to actually get some what of a film test done. I fully rigged up the Black Magic Pocket Cinema Camera 4k and the IPhone 13 Pro. I needed to really see what I was losing or gaining between the two. The IPhone has more flexible options. But can it compete pixel for pixel enough with the bmpcc4k. It’s not a fair comparison, but gods be damned, I needed to test.
My lovely model, Gwen took her position on the chair and I got to filming. It wasn’t much, just enough to start to check. And I wanted to go through my thought process. It’s also good practice on timing and putting film into Davinci Resolve then getting it back out.
If you care to, feel free to give it a watch. It’s super basic, but it was 2 am by the time I got done editing it.
Thanks again.

This is just a quick Picture test on some footage I am working on and grading. It doesn't seem like a massive difference until they are side by side. This doesn't account for the difficulties in grading and physically using both camera. There are elements I like of both, but I have quite a bit to consider. These are screen grabs from footage which is ultimately going to have a different determinant for end quality, but I feel that it should help peek into the veil a bit.
Both were shot at about the same time from the same space under the same lights with near identical settings. Originally, both were shot at 100 ISO, 24fps with 1/48 shutter speed, with white balance set for 5600K under 2200 Tungsten Lights in a controlled setting. Both were shot without image stabilization and were graded without other effects. The grading settings are not identical and I didnt have time to attempt to match the two. On the Iphone version, I was just trying to overcome the inherent Orange that seemed unresolvable. I also ran into an issue on the exposure control. Despite locking down the settings, the exposure value still seemed to adjust automatically which was unexpected

Consider this a Primer:
So in my goals to make sure I actually do stuff nearly everyday to get better, I am gonna try to get myself into the mind set of making a post a day.
I am working on Eddie Vérité: Private Investigator. Which will be a short form (not TikTok/YouTube shorts formatted) content about a noir detective seeking out and discussing film. I’m also going to use it as a platform to discuss media and media criticism/literacy surrounding film. I will also use it to discuss the elements of film present but not discussed. I want to reveal the man behind the curtain.
Everyone benefits from open discussion.
That said, I want to showcase some of my process and research here and to work towards cultivating my photography and cinematography skills. If you will bear with me, I feel we can all come to garner something from it.
For now, I must ask for you patience on it! But I do appreciate your understanding.

This is a test. Please don’t adjust the tracking on your playback device. If the image appears to be a flexing Zaku in a green suit, then the test was successful.
